I Personaly am looking forward to the PS3. But with a rumored launching price of $500, looks like I may have to wait. I'd also like to get the new Nintendo system, but is it backwards compatible? It's cool that the PS3 is backwards compatible with the PS2 and 1 so that makes it even cooler! I can't wait!! X3

Hmm..I suppose I would be too, but for some reason I just don't like the XBox as much as the other two.. I was a die hard Nintendo fan until my first playstation. Now I'm PlayStation all the way. Woohoo!~
I'd also like to get the new Nintendo system, but is it backwards compatible?
According to various interviews, they say that Nintendo's next console will definitely be backwards-compatible.

(Of a peculiar note: You know how the GameBoy Advance is backwards-compatible with original GameBoy games? Turns out that's because the GBA actually has a GameBoy cpu chip in it, for that very reason)

And if one thing seems certain, at least Nintendo isn't trying to monopolize your entertainment center with multimedia-this and multifunction-that Wink

( research ) . . . .

Nintendo Revolution
Nintendo has not yet officially set a date for its new console, code-named Revolution, but said it would give further details at the annual Electronics Entertainment Expo, or E3, in Los Angeles this week. "It is true that we plan to launch Revolution in 2006. We will offer more details at the E3," a Nintendo spokesman said.
Nintendo has said that Revolution will be ready for wireless Internet gaming and be compatible with the current generation GameCube, which is now in third place in the console market behind PlayStation 2 (PS2) and the Xbox
The new console will be powered by a chip developed by IBM code-named Broadway and a graphics processor from ATI Technologies Inc. code-named Hollywood.
In a release on its U.S. Web site, Nintendo said Revolution would use 12 cm optical disks along with the 8 cm disks for the GameCube and be about the thickness of three DVD cases stacked together.

PS3
Sony officials touted the new technology inside the PS3, particularly the custom-designed "Cell" chip, which will enable fast performance of movie-quality games and high-definition video.

The console will also support Blu-ray, a high-definition and high-capacity format for the next generation of DVDs that is backed by Sony. It will feature a built-in Ethernet port for high-speed Internet access, a removable hard drive and support for two different types of wireless networking.

The box itself is about the same size as the most recent version of the PlayStation 2, but with one side more rounded. The PS3 will come in three colors: black, silver and white. The new console will be able to run the thousands of games available for the older PS2 and PS1.

Xbox 360
Xbox 360 can stand on one end like a book or lie flat like a DVD player. Its 20-gigabyte hard drive and three powerful processors will enable high-definition graphics and surround sound, making games seem more like movies.

Microsoft, which hopes to overtake Sony as the number one console maker in the next generation of machines, made itself popular with current players of its Xbox titles when it announced that the 360 would be compatible with older version games, as well as the high-definition ones being produced especially for the 360.

There had been widespread speculation that Microsoft would make a clean break with its first attempt at a games console by winding down production of the original Xbox and making the new one incompatible with older games.

Microsoft says Xbox 360 will arrive in North American stores around Thanksgiving and in Europe and Japan by year's end. Analysts said several months of lead time could help the new Xbox close in on the market-leading PlayStation, but they're waiting to see what Sony rolls out before making any bold predictions.

Analysts at Goldman Sachs expect Microsoft to ship 2 million to 3 million 360s by the end of the year, giving it a significant time-to-market advantage over Sony, whose PS3 is not expected to appear until several months later in 2006.

I particularly have my sights set on the PS3, but if I'm able to manage doing so, I'd also like to get my hands on the Nintendo Revolution when it comes out. For too long have I been out of touch with Nintendo. <_< 2006 shall be a glorious year...uh...I guess, I unno. e_e

If I had to pick one, I'd place my vote for Nintendo. For one, Nintendo's focused squarely on GAMES. Nintendo's consoles aren't trying to take over your living room like Sony's is (or the world, in Microsoft's case Rolling eyes Laughing )

There's also buzz about being able to download older NES/SNES/N64 games for play on their new console. That's a potential/virtual market of... what, 2,000 games?

Wireless controllers... *yawn*, nothing unusual. But what if they also put gyro-tilt sensors into the controllers as well? Imagine what a game could be like if tilting the controller would make the game respond in some way...

I'd like to have a PS3 and a Xbox 360. But I prefer the PS3 more. If I had the money I would want to buy all of them, but, ehh, too much gaming will consume my time of more important things

In short, I choose PS3.

Yeah, in contrast to what strata said- since the Revolution will be able to download all of the previous system games, the Revolution will be freakin' awesome to have. And even cooler if you have older Nintendo systems. And I also like how Nintendo is more focused on the GAMES other than everything else. (I've been watching the E3 live on tv)
