How many of you guys have heard the news already? They're drawing Star Trek: Enterprise to a close with its final episodes, and with it, they'll be drawing the curtains over the Star Trek universe as well ... no new Treks in planning.
Should Trek continue to live long and prosper, or should it be boldly gone like shows have gone before?
Either way, the opening credits for the final episodes make one thing clear so far: It ain't ending without a fight. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

I say -- let it die.
Why?
Oh, sure, I'm a Star Trek fan. I used to watch TNG every night, and I'd stay up to watch the second showings of DS9 and Voyager when I could. But I could never warm up to Enterprise. The way the shows played out always seemed... forced. The characters were stereotypes and cardboard to boot. The universe seemed more like some fan's AU rather than a pre-Kirk world. Klingons and Borg and menaces that made no sense in standing continuity.
More than anything, it was boring. Star Trek had never been so... lifeless before. It was always fun and exciting, but this? Yech.
You went in and the writers expected you to love the characters simply because they were there, not because of who they were or what they had done. There was little real character development that wasn't prepackaged. The stories were standard fare for a scifi show. Life-threatening events were so often that they became mundane.
Mundane. That is a word I never would have expected to be used to refer to Star Trek.
They tried to do a series that harkened back to the original. But they fell short. They were trying too hard. That's the difference between sink and swim, fail and succeed, Voyager and Enterprise. Voyager went in with the same situation -- they were totally removed from the rest of the universe, with no familiar characters, worlds, or planets. But they didn't go in EXPECTING to succeed. Or to make money. Or to be part of some horrible, all-encompassing legion. Voyager came in meekly, with the thought that they might not make it out for all to see. Sure, they were Star Trek, but they could have failed. Enterprise entered the scene with hype and glitz and glamour. And when they didn't live up to it, they couldn't pull themselves back.
In another ten years, they'll try again with it. Maybe they'll get it right, maybe they won't. But it will happen. Too many people put too much money into it as a market. The studios will sit down in ten years and go, "We need some cash. Let's bring back Star Trek."

Well, I agree. Enterprise was, quite frankly, rubbish. I didn't like DS9 either actually, but TNG and Voyager were both excellent.
The series is running out if steam, now, so I say - let it die. |

Really? They'rew ending it? I don't watch it but my dad does. He'll be sad. Well, it's been on for such a long time, it was bound to come to a close sooner or later. _________________ |

i was never to fond of Enterprise. but as the shows started to get better, it got a bit more interesting. and can ya believe it this is their best season ever and there takeing it off air! Riker and Troi are supossed to be in the last episode I THINK. i grew up on Star Trek. all around it and all up in it. the 1st time i ever saw Star Trek was probally like when i was 3? i dont remember to much. im just a super huge Voyager fan though. but i think Enterprise should stay on a little longer. |

Enterprise is the worst. TNG is the only one I ever watched with remote loyalty, and I watched quite a bit of Voyager when it happened to be on. Never liked DS9, and the original is alright. But Enterprise was a flop, and there doesn't need to be a bigger failure to waste a television slot.
It's worse than when they drag out a sitcom a season past its prime (Drew Carey Show, Frasier, etc.). They subjected people to a whole subpar series. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I like the originals with captain kirk, spock, and such. In my opinion, nothing could add up to the great korny 60's version. So I say they should discontinue it. |

Man, they still ended it even after the fans put together over $2,000,000 as a bribe to keep it alive... |

Thank god. For once a company acts on good sense rather than money. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Yeah, they got a check from the fans in the mail, and promptly sent it back with the message "no thankyou". |

 How does one send a check from "the fans"? Did they have people donate to one checking account?
God, some fans will do anything if you attach the star trek name to it. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |
