Slash V.s Mick Mars

Music needs a good rock topic and I guess I'll start one. I don't know how this will do considering only like one or two members here know who Mick Mars actually is.

All right. So who is the better guitarist? I know this is very similar to the Nikki v.s Duff thread and now that I think about it, this may turn out with the same result (which was that Nikki was best in terms of entertaining an audience but Duff was more talented than Nikki in terms of actually playing.)

But Mick does have some good guitar skills. I have to give props where props are due and Mick is due for some. He's been in the business longer than any other member of the Crue so his talent definetly stands out in that group.

Slash cannot be denied of his skills. He is already a well known guitar legend is known for some of the most memorable riffs in rock. While he doesn't have the same amount of experience as Mick, Slash seems to outweigh Mick in raw talent.

I am not that knowlagable about Mick's ealier works before he joined the Crue so I am not sure how talented Mick was when he first started. But I do know a lot about Slash and that boy was born to play. He picked up the guitar at a young age and joined Guns N' Roses when he got older. Plus, by comparing Motley Crue's first album with Guns N' Roses first album you can tell that Slash seems to sound better than Mick. Just from the fact that Slash played more complicated rythems and riffs than Mick (because the Crue's sound was more upbeat and simple to create the image that they are a fun band that likes to party and Guns N' Roses strayed from that image and was more raw about the music and just wanted it to be all about the music) it can be assumed that Slash is the better guitarist. But there's also how each guitarist performs live.

Motely Crue is infamous for have very exaggerated and elaborative stage shows. They go wild and perform dangerous stunts while playing that put themselves in danger. I know that Nikki Sixx had his share of burnings but I am not so sure about Mick. I'm sure that when you are in a band like Motley Crue you know a thing or two about wowing an audience with stage performances and light shows. This would make Mick the better guitarist when it comes to giving an entertaining show especially considering his bone illness that would make it almost impossible for him to even move around on stage. Not to say that Slash is a boring performer. In fact he is known for wowing an audience in a less dangerous way. Slash makes sure to run around on stage and do handstands on his guitar and give the audience something to watch as well as listen.

Honestly I believe both guitarists are great but I believe that Slash is just more talented on all levels except for overall experience. That would go to Mick just for the fact of his age and how long he's been in the rock business.

But this is merely my opinion. Please give your idea of who is better too.

Slash's hair is legendary. The man should never cut it because that would almost symbolize the end of good rock as we know it.

I have to say though that Mick is a real fighter. The man almost died recently and he somehow managed to pull through and tour with the band. That takes some serious balls.

I just hope he can last through this tour. I'd be so sad if he died in the middle of it.
