It's most likely to House of Wax, but the Amittyville Horror was pretty gruesome to.

Those movies aren't even close to gruesome. I can't comment on the real "video-nasties" like Driller Killer and Cannibal Holocaust but there are plenty older horror films that could be in the running. Films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Evil Dead, whilst tame and hokey in terms of special effects, deserve to be up there well before you even think about stuff like House of Wax.

On a personal note, The Shining deserves mention just for that old naked bitch.

If House Of Wax is to be considered gruesome, then my vote goes to Disney's "The Lion King" - seeing Mufasa die in a stampede is far more gruesome than anything Paris Hilton came in contact with.

If your talking about blood and gore, I say Final Destination 1 and 2.(The second more though because it has more brutal killings.)

The Samurai X movies are the most gruesome for animation. People get chopped from top to bottom! NO NOT SIDEWAYS! But from head to tail bone. Plus they add in some much blood, it's enough to fill a friggen lake! Silence of the Lambs was pretty sick too. I hated that guy who was like "put the lotion in the basket"! Then he would skin woman to make a body suit of skin.

Yeah, Samurai X was ok for animated nastiness, but I have to agree with Craig. Evil Dead was one of Peter Jackson's first zombie movies, wasn't it? Oh, that movie was gross. I had a gag bucket ready next to my computer while I was watching it. There's this great part where this old lady is falling apart. Blood and puss squirt out of her eye or something right into this guy's food, and he eats it without noticing, and ears are fallign off and gettign eaten. it's pretty incredible.

The winning scene, though, is when there is a big room full of zombies, and the main character is going through holding up a lawn mower and just chopping them up with that spinny blade underneath it. I believe there's also a part where someone pulls out a long string of intestines or they get caught in a ceilign fan or something.

Quentin Tarantino is up there, too, I think. His gore isn't the gay 'I'm going to stick your finger in the hole in my head' kind. Kill Bill wasn't as good as Reservoir Dogs plotwise, but it had some good fakish gore. Man, I love Pulp Fiction, too. That one had some great gore moments, like when John Travolta shoots the guy in the back seat of the car by accident XD.

I think Robert Rodriguez would probably pride himself on the nastiest films, but their plots suck, so that's where he falls short.

Most horror movies suck plot wise and gore wise :/ The Shining was pretty awesome, though.

It was about a monkey who could turn people into zombies and then it turned a bunch of people into zombies. Then the main character brought all the zombies into his house and decided to kill them all. And I forget the ending.

Yeah, getting my zombie movies mixed up O.o What can I say? They're all about people getting some strange disease from somewhere, rotting, and eating people, aren't they ^_^ ? I thought it was Jackson- maybe he had one with a similar title. In his, it was this weird rat thing that bit this old lady at the zoo.
