I am, people at school think they're "cool" be having a 50 cent ring tone. I think its a whole load of sh*t, you might as well be watching porn, except for the fact that you cna't use your imagination. I like the music, the tune itself, but not that lyrics. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to be listening to how the world is so great or something. But still. I'm not just going on about 50 cent though. There are plenty of others, don't believe me?
Turn on your radio.

I do agree. There's nothing wrong with mentioning ex, or even having a song about sex, if it's a good song, but not like 50's song that demeans women. I turned on the radio the other day and heard this song that was basically just the line "super sex world, goin' up and down" repeated a million times. I mean, what is that all about?!

*nods*
But then again, its still about sex. Its Ok to mention it, but to have it all... yeah I know.
You know how they ban cuss words on the radio? I think that is a bunch of crap, what's worse, cussing or sex?
You'll cuss more often than have sex (besides, pretty much everyone cusses), so it doesn't really matter about the cussing, and bleeping it out pretty much ruins the song. But its still a song, without the sex in the others, there is no song whatsoever.

Sex sells. There's always been a ton of sex on the radio, it was just less blatant until the 70s/80s. Tons of popular songs were all about sex and horribly scandalous for the time. "Afternoon Delight" anyone? As society gets more accepting, they push the boundaries of "good taste", but it's the same concept. Hell, Elvis was offensive, and now he's pretty damn wholesome by today's standards.

I don't have a problem with it. Just means their songs suck, and I don't have to listen to them. But there are plenty of good songs about sex, music as a whole just happens to suck ass right now.
I hate sex realated music. One, the people have no singing talent whatsoever and two, it's just annoying.
Way to generalize and blame the media for society's problems!

1. Have you heard every song about sex ever written? No? Ok then.

2. The rate of abortion and teen pregnancy is HARDLY caused by rap or any form of music. It's a combination of many factors, including a flawed sex ed situation. It's nothing new. Blaming teen pregnancy on music is like blaming violence on video games. It's a theory, but one that has NO proof whatsoever and is overall completely ridiculous.

3. Rap is not killing anyone, except perhaps the "gangsta culture" that happens to involve it. Suburban kids are not going out and having knife fights or raping bitches and hos. Did everyone who saw Saving Private Ryan go out and shoot a bunch of people because they enjoyed the film? Or even enlist in the army? Did it ever occur to anyone that a select few who are already prone to such tendencies (rape, violence, promiscuity) are drawn to the music because of it? A kid who already enjoys violence would be more inclined to enjoy violent games and movies, no? Someone who is already a sex addict or involved in unprotected sex may enjoy songs about it. But the songs certainly don't CAUSE those traits in people.

Blaming problems in society on music is such bullshit. Marilyn Manson didn't cause kids to shoot up their schools, and there were no hidden messages to commit suicide in Ozzy or Judas Priest music. And just because someone likes a song about sex, does not mean they'll go out and fuck anything with a pulse.

I agree with Fallen, partly. I don't think a song about sex is good, see? The reason people like the songs is because of the music itself, they don't listen to the lyrics. I don't think they should talk about it in detail so much (note the title) because then the women in the music videos or songs make society want all women to dress like sluts.

And I also agree with Fallen's second post.

But then again, Lindsay has a point.

By having so much sex on the radio, it is showing the youth of the listeners that it's OK to have sex.

Many children idolize people like 50 cent, Ludacris, Lil Jon. ect. They're setting an example, they're saying "Hey kids, having sex and forcing women to do things is good, if I can do it, you can too!"
(sort of like the Micheal Jackson case, but thats besides the point.)

But once again, I don't want to listen to how joyful the world is.

It's not the music industry or the artist's job to put morals and values in kids. How many millions of teens obsessed over the Beatles or Elvis? It's natural for kids to look up to celebrities, but that doesn't mean they have to be the model of clean living. That's the parents' job. You can look up to someone without wanting to be just like them.

If a kid is so lacking in direct influence from people in their lives that they model their sexual behavior after Christina Aguilera, they're already a lost cause when it comes to being impressionable.

First of all I'd like to state that I don't listen to the Radio. It's mostly main steam garbage.

Now to the point. If you don't enjoy hearing things like sex and whatnot on the Radio I sugest you quit listening to it, because I don't see you hearing much of anything else. Sure rap has lot's of sexual lingo in it, but thats peoples taste in music. In places like america your going to get alot of sex related shindig, but your opinion isn't going to change peoples minds.

I don't agree with you that it shows kids that it's alright to have sex because it's the kids choice to do it or not. If they have the thought of having sex on their mind sure the radio or TV may sway it a little more into their lsexual liking but it's not completely the entertainments fault.

I sugest you buckle up and get ready for more sexuality coming out in entertainment because it seems everyday it pushes the bar even farther.

Meh. . .Sorry if I didn't make a very good argument, I'm not in much of a mood to type my normal essay.
no hidden messages to commit suicide in Ozzy or Judas Priest music.
Bill Hicks covered that, too.

He asks where the long-term goal lies in killing off thier target audience.

What sense does it make?

In the music I like to listen to on the radio sex isn't usually just blurted out randomly, but rather cleaverly disguised so it's almost entertaining to find the double meaning in the lyrics. For example, Van Halen brought his "pencil" to class when he's hot for teacher, and what he wants for breakfast his for his girl to spread warm butter on his biscuts, add some cherries and bannanas, etc, etc... Wink

Sometimes its not like I can help but listen to that crap.

Maybe I'm in the car with a friend who won't change the station.

Maybe I live in some f**ked up hick town that doesn't even have the kind of music I like until midnight on Monday. (which I do)

Maybe I'm on some stupid trip, school or family, in which someone is singing/playing the music so loud you can hear/ or (once again) won't change the goddamned station.

And Fallen, some parents are crap parents that should have their children taken away from them. Some parents just don't give a s*it what theire kids do.

But yes, its not the entertainment indrustry's job to do that. But they do anyway. Maybe not purposely, but they do.

And my goal isn't to change people's minds, maybe just open their eyes a bit to the reality.

And Jhonen, (not to be sounding rude, because that's not how I'm saying it), we're talking about the stuff on all the "new, good" stations... the people that have crap like 50 cent and lil jon ect.
Some of 50's songs that are not so "cleverly disguised"

Candy Shop:
I melt in your mouth girl, not in your hands (ha ha)
Does anyone not know what that means?
Climb on top, ride like you in the rodeo
You ain't never heard a sound like this before
Cause I ain't never put it down like this
Soon as I come through the door she get to pullin on my zipper
It's like it's a race who can get undressed quicker
Isn't it ironic how erotic it is to watch em in thongs
Had me thinking 'bout that ass after I'm gone
I touch the right spot at the right time
Lights on or lights off, she like it from behind
So seductive, you should see the way she wind
Her hips in slow-mo on the floor when we grind
As Long as she ain't stoppin, homie I aint stoppin
Drippin wet with sweat man its on and popping

In the hotel or in the back of the rental
On the beach or in the park, it's whatever you into

I'll let you lick the lollypop
Go 'head girl, don't you stop
Keep going 'til you hit the spot (woah)
Must i go on? I will if I need to.

Dave's your ice cream man, stop him when he's passin' by. Cool All flavors and push ups too.

All those lyrics you posted, add more of a melody and some electric guitar and you've got any hit song from the 80s. "Dirty Dirty" by Danger Danger ("That dress you're wearin' makes you look so cute, but girl you'd look better in your birthday suit. Take my hand, feel my love, tonight's the night we're gonna shake it up, etc. etc. etc.") "Cherry Pie" by Warrant. Replace the word swingin' with the original lyric of fuckin', and that song's even more transparent. Honestly, it's not that bad at all. If you can't escape the station, that's really no one else's problem. They don't cater their playlist to people stuck on a car ride with other people.

Where I live there's a single station that plays tolerable music, and not very often at that. So I choose not to listen to it. If I have to, oh well. (and am hopefully saving up to get the portable XM radio *technology lust*)

I just don't see the big deal. It's not hurting anyone. If you don't like it, you have options. I don't like country music, so I don't listen to the country stations. I won't demand they stop playing country just because I feel it's full of cliches and blind patriotism, and I might be stuck in a car listening to it.

XM radio really isn't worth it in my humble opinion. I have it in my car and I onle listen to 4 stations. Comdey, Techo, Industrial, and Classic Rock. I don't know if the portable XM radio is any different but I just wait a while before you buy it. If you want fallen I can send you the pamphlet with all the stations in it XD sorry for being off topic.

I know all the stations. And only really want it for one. My hair band/glam fetish demands I get the Boneyard. Metal Sludge show on Sunday nights. And stuff getting more airplay than when it was first released even. I waste money on stupid shit, I know. But if I only listen to that station often, it's more or less worth it in the end.

I want the portable one to be able to play it whenever, not just inside or in the car.

There's sex songs on XM radio.

I'm pretty sick of sex on the radio...
Since I live in California...it is literally EVERYWHERE. There is no chance of escaping it, especially when all the kids in your school blast it on the buildings radio speakers in the morning, where the same songs are played, like, THREE TIMES IN A ROW, WTF IS THAT?!?!
*ahem* Sorry about that...
It's a little hard, sometimes, to try to turn it off, cause if you're with a lot of other people, the vast majority of them absolutely LOVE that music...but personally, it kinda disgusts me. I mean, sixth graders listening to that music...it's a little weird. I can tolerate a little mentioning of sex, but not for the whole song. I listen to rock/metal anyway, I like the rebel-ness and stuff (although some rock songs to have sex in them)...
Point: If you have the ability, change the station, there's no one MAKING you listen to it unless the majority does not want to change the station, but then again, there can always be something better on the radio, anyway.

I really don't see why they changed music to a more vuglar, disgusting thing. I thought it was fine the way it was.

I don't like country music. But Im not really complaining.

heh. i know all genres have sex, rap is the major one right now because almost all of them are about sex.
country: a few, mostly about love and stories about life and such.
rock (all): some sex, about getting pushed around, love, hate, etc. etc.

(aren't those the basic three genres? I know there are a whole bunch of branches, but I think I got the foundations.)

Rap is a phase. And rap about sex is a bigger phase. As soon as one artist does it and sells a bunch, then they all do it. Once one band in the 80s had a hit song for/about strippers, they all did it (Girls, Girls Girls, Cherry Pie, Slow An' Easy, Shake Me, Rock You Like a Hurricane, Darlin' Nikki, etc.)

Just like angsty teenage boyband punk songs are a trend. A huge percentage of the hit songs of the past 3-4 years (that are horrifyingly enough called "rock" songs) are about being alone, misunderstood, depressed, a rebel, teen angst crap.

It'll pass, just like songs about death and cheesy love ballads did. In the meantime, learning to live with it is about the only option.
