I still like the pokemon games. ^^ Call it odd, but they're still a lot of fun.

Well, duh! It was made for the original Game Boy. You know, the one that can only display four shades of gray?

Pokmon Red/Blue had limited support for color when you played it on the SNES "Super Game Boy", but SGB colors weren't supported by GBC/GBA hardware, so playing it on the newer Game Boy systems just ... isn't cool.

If you want to see the original (red/blue) pokmon in color, get an SNES and play it on the SGB (or grab a ROM for a GB/SGB emulator). No other way.

Pokmon Red/Blue on the Game Boy Color, like any other original GB title, will display in a single palette of four colors (you can choose the palette by hitting direction+A or direction+B or direction+AB while the system is starting up. One of the palettes is monochrome, just like the original GB)

However, when you played Red/Blue on the SNES SGB, the game would display a custom screen border (same thing with Yellow), and the game would shift through multiple palettes depending on your location. Meadows were green, Cerulean City was blue, Vermillion was orange, caves were brown, Cinnabar Island was red, and so on.

Played on the SNES SGB, Red/Blue also swapped multiple palettes for the pokmon you took into battle with you; Porygon was red/blue, Pikachu was yellow, Venusaur was red/green, Charizard was orange, trainers had color too -- hell, since most of the attack visuals were black/white, played on the SNES SGB, Red/Blue's battles were virtually full color.
