How Long Do You Spend On Drawings?

I usually don't have a set amount of time that it takes for me to finish a piece of art. I can whip out three (high-quality) drawings in 45 minutes or I can spend 3 hours on one pic. But I guess the average amount of time is an hour and a half.

I'm not sure how I should interpret that ... :unsure:

I mean, I couldn't complete a drawing in under an hour if I tried. On average...

- 30 minutes to an hour spent doing the initial, rough sketches. Exact time depends on how complex the picture is going to be, plus whether I get it looking right the first time or have to erase and start over again.
- Another additional hour or so is spent refining those sketches and putting in the little details.
- Add in another 30 minutes doing my preliminary colors (erase pencil lines and replace with colored pencil -- reduces the "linework" appearance of the finished result).
- Actual shading of a drawing averages 2 hours, depending on picture, color mixes used, and technique.

So, from start to finish, my "average" drawing requires about 4 hours of work.

Well, what I mean is, they're not just some crappy doodle that I just threw together. I usually take the time on a drawing if I feel it needs it, but sometimes I'm like... struck by inspiration or something, and I can do a picture real quick.

Ah well. I guess that's why your art is 4627854172427893790 times better than mine.

Depends on wut type of art, realistic and fantasy seem to take longer than anime.
When comes to final pics for college work, I take at least 20 hours, it all varies on the type but I can do a good sketch in 40 mins. Depends how complex.
On average for pics I have on fac can take about 4 hours but not totally sure for all of them.

Drawing somethign simple can take 45 minutes at the most for anybody. But something really detailed must take you atleast 1 and a half days. It all depends.
Anyways, for me a drawing, well sketch can take me 45 minutes to an hour, to 2 hours, just depends on what I'm drawing. The whole 9 yards with coloring, that takes 2 hours to a couple of months, most of my word takes at least 5 hours, or a couple of days into it, maybe even a week.
I have one picture that is a year old and I have yet to finish coloring it, but it's on a big sheet of paper. So yeah. That's how long it takes me.

I usually finish my drawings within thirty minutes....but then again that's probably why they always turn out as crap..... . . . .

The longest I've ever taken on a drawing, was actually a comic. It was on four different panels and it took me hours before I was finally satisfied with it...and yet it still sucks. Note, I have not posted even half my comics on this site yet...mainly coz I don't have a freakin' scanner! ARGH! I have over 40 comics drawn.....

15-50+ hours. If I sit down and really concentrate, and the picture is relatively simple, I can do it in 4-5 hours. Like the Brent Muscat thingy I don't know if I ever put up here. Lots of solid black and a face, did it from midnight to 4am.

Plus, I work slow. 'Cause I'm usually watching tv, thinking of something else, or fussing with my CDs at the same time. Which would be why so much is started and so little is finished.

Pencilling - 30 minutes to 2 hours
Inking - 1 to 2 hours
Coloring via photoshop.....
Anywhere from 2 to 15 hours.... X__o

For a sh*tty insperation starter, witch is used to get my idea down before I forget it, about half an hour. Thats actually whats mainly on fac. I get to lazy to redraw them.

For my good ones, witch like all my art, arn't inked. Its usally between an hour to anhour and ahalf.

Maybe thats why I can't draw worth sh*t.

Depending on what I'm drawing it can take approx. 2 to 11 hours, and not everything turns out. Sometimes the quicker drawings turn out better then the one I spent more time on, but not in every case.

Ps: Part of my time is drawing on paper then the other part is doing editing on the computer, along with special effect, lighting, darkening, adding depth, splicing in drawn backgrounds that I created and what not. It can vary from drawing to drawing on how heavily I use the computer for my stuff.

mmm, oh yeah, I do come photoshop work aswell. For me it take me 3-4 hours to finish a piece of computer graphic artwork. It could also take me 20 hours to do, but that's never happened, but it will soon, I just know it.

Maybe I spend about........ 30min or less, with pretty careful works.. But with quick works it can take 10min, less or more. With really careful works it can take 1h, less or more. With computer works it can take even 2h! ^^ Laughing

*Even* two hours, eh? I find that if I am going to put a semi-reasonable effort into my CG pictures, it takes me several hours, at the very least. It takes me forever to get the lineart down to my satisfaction, and when I'm coloring, I spend a lot of time erasing. Maybe I'm just inefficient. Coloring on paper takes a long time too - I usually spread it out over a week or two, for a couple hours at a time. But if I want to me quick and dirty, I draw 10-minute doodles in my notebook margins all the time.

In the end, it varies on what I'm working with, my subject matter, my mood...

Depends. At least an hour. Sometimes, even days because I get artist's block or I'm embarrassed at how my work is turning out. (And then there is rendering time for my 3D work.)

Regardless of how long I take on a drawing, it amazes me that people will give comments like:

well... i do a bunch of 15 minute sketches.

A good sketch, like my night elf one, 2 hours.
30 minutes or so for the inking.
And if I feel lucky, a good 2-3 hours colouring.

But mostly:
I'll already have the idea, so 30 minute sketch.
15 minute inking, that doesnt make them bad, just not my best or worst. XD

Ive been working on figuring out crayola pencils, but so far, I like the prismacolours in my art class. XD
(but if its something for that class, like Ed the happy kitty, dragons i havent gotten back yet, or my surrealism, ot takes a good 2 weeks of 45 minutes pretty much continuous (spl?))

A quick sketch will always take at least thirty minutes depending on how complex the sketch is.

If I'm really serious about what I want to draw, I will take over a matter of days. Its only because I will work for up to four hours a day and then put the drawing away and do something else. I like to have projects that will last over weeks at a time. That way I always have something to do.

So the average drawing may take about two weeks. Depending on what I'm drawing.
