.....*thinks*..i was just now thinking...... and i may just ramble on but hear me out anyway..........well i was just now thinking about the way you feel when you see someone elses work...you know, like a piccy. And its like WOAH and its really cool....but doesnt anyone get that feeling when you feel that your piccys are really crap and you wish you could draw like that .....and you either have a burst of inspiration and run off to draw or......... you feel your work is inadiquate and that no one else would like your work when they could like someone elses art work...... and tell me, if your doing a request for someone, and theres piccys of your work above....and someone putts in a request..is it just that they like your style and if you start to change it, to draw better like the piccys youve seen before....would the people who like the way you drew before still like the way you draw now??.......i was just kinda wondering.... ... surely somone knows what im saying *sighs*.....

I found your post a tad confusing but I think I got most of what your saying.

I don't think I've ever thought of my own stuff as crap even when I see other things that are much better then my own. I feel that everything I draw comes from my heart, how could I ever think of something that comes from my heart as crap? I know I'm still learning and improving and even now when I look back at sketch books from a few months ago I'm amazed at how far I've come in so short a time, but I never consider it crap.

If you think your art is crap then it is. It's all about your mindset.

Instead of looking at others work and comparing your to thiers and say to yourself "Wow compared to this my stuff is crap" instead say "Wow this is really good, I'm going to keep practicing and soon my art will be even better then this!"

Heh, funny this should come up since I was so damn proud of myself this afternoon. I'm insanely competetive, we've all figured that out, right? Well today a couple friends were (trying to?) give me a hard time about this Russian kid with "Dude, I found someone who draws better than you! Kippy is awesome, he's got, like, an entire book of this really cool shit."

And I didn't care. Don't care. In fact, my exact reply was "uhh...Good for Kippy?". There will always be people better than you, so to let it get you down is setting yourself up for a lot of frustration. I just use those people who are better as motivation, either by being inspired by how good they are or working my ass off until I'm better than them. Only thing that slightly gets to me is the 15-year-old prodigies...damn kids. Razz

As for your question about requests, it all depends on how you're drawing. If you're drawing in a cartoon style and decide to change to a different one, even if your technical skills improve some people may not like the new style. But that's to be expected. The other side to that is there are some people who may not like your current style and would end up loving the new one, especially if by changing you improve the quality. When it's all said and done, you really can't let other people's opinions decide how you draw. If they like it, great, if they don't, too bad for them.

I'm always pretty competitive about drawing, but people who are better than me, I see them as a challenge. Theres lots of people who USED to be better than me heheh Cool

Yeah, I know what you mean. Lots of chibis and puppy dogs and drawings of sissy girls. Not that there's anything wrong with that (a lot of it's pretty cute), but I prefer dragons, monsters, realistic people, etc.

I'll I can say about drawing is practice practice practice. Compare your current work to your old work so that you may see your progress and invision your future work. How do you see your art in the future? Try drawing like that now.

I actually hate looking at old work 'cause it makes me feel like crap that I used to think it was good. And I hate feeling stupid. Like all the early stuff in my gallery is still in my makeshift portfolio (binder I stuck it all in after being torn out of my sketchbook) and I get so uncomfortable when people go through it because of everything wrong with it...

Cutesy drawings are sickening. Not talking about cute, because I know some people who draw very cute things that aren't cutesy. Little kittens with giant eyes and a bunch of hearts...ew.

Pictures of things like happy kitties and puppies with large soulful eyes really heve no depth to them. You see it, recognize it's cute then move on.. or throw up whatever works for you. I've been told that my style of drawing is very 'cute' (which ticks me off for some reason because somehow people always call it cute even when I'm trying to make it not look cute) but I try to put more in to my drawings you know give 'em personality other then "Weee! Look at me I'm teh cute!"

I like my chibis Sad I'm trying to make some chibis of some regs at FAC Smile I'm not too terrible at realism, but I'm not great, either. I draw when I'm upset or excited. If I'm in a bad mood, there's more pictures with anorexic chicks slitting their wrists. If I'm in a good mood, there's pictures of little chibi people jumping around Smile

....yeah...i can see what you guys are saying.......but funally enough...on the conterary from what i posted....i got a bit of a boost on my art work...which i kinda needed.....RoseDagger (Dragon Highlord) said to me "wheeeeeeeee! I cant wait to see my pic because your art is sooooo cute! "......i thought that was really sweet of her........ but mind you when i posted all of that up here...i was feelin a little low... but i still sorta feel what i said is sorta true....and what you lot have said is true to me,too.....like "looking back on work" and ....practice practice practice.... i am really chuffed with my art work at the mo...but feel its getting a bit too cute and sweet.....but i am trying to make it more serious.... WTF? *thinks to self....anyof this making sence to you lot* hmmmmmm...well....things like "is my art work...really crap" bug me .....even if i think its pretty cool...you know, but to just draw for the sake of what people either like or dislike....is a bit of a stupid reason to get all.... WTF? ...about... orwell...thats just me....i tend to think about things a little to much ..i think WTF? hehe...im that sorta person i guess hehehe ^_^

oh and is it really a little hard to read....being orange and all...meh..i dont care wat people think hey hey lolol Laughing

Oh my god.. my damn eyes have never been so damn sore! Change your font to black.. barf... really very sickening.

But yeah I know what ya mean. Sometimes I'll be lookn at some galleries and I just feel like poop because I don't have the skill that some of the really talented people on this site and DA have.. but it only lasts a few minutes.. then i just try to improve. I don't really let it bother me too much. It does make me feel crappy when I realize that that when I was 15 I thought I was really good... so I never tried to improve.. and when I look back at my really old stuff... it makes me sick.. I still have some of my old stuff posted here.. but I'm thinkn of takn it down.

And as for people asking for requests... who cares if they like your style or not. It's whether or not you like your drawings... there is always room for improvment.

okay, okay....ill change the colour......

......but anyway....yeah, i know theres always room for improvement... and even just over these past months.... i think how  ..crappy my work was...but even then people still liked the way i drew, you know..friends, people i knew in places like this and that......but it must have been good art work at that time when i did it...... and i guess over the next few months ill probally improve much much more and think the work im doning now is cruddy.......and i guess its true what DG-sama (DG-sama) said..."I feel that everything I draw comes from my heart, how could I ever think of something that comes from my heart as crap? " and at that time when i drew something....it usally did come from the heart.....and still does... and probally still will.... i should draw for myself......but i like drawing piccys for people... and them liking it...no matter how i draw.... hmmm...i think i confused myself a tad-bit.. WTF?

oh and is it better in this colour....
