I loved it! It wasn't exactly scary..more intense feeling for me.

I know, I don't like it that the movies of Harry Potter don't follow the books very well either. <_<

Anyways, the special effects and everything was brilliant to me. I can't wait to get it on DVD when it comes out.

I haven't seen it yet, but the special effects look really good, from what the commercials show...

I just got back from seeing it. It was a lot better than I thought it would be because normally I hate all that Sci fi crap. This movie actually kept my attention.

There were a lot of plotholes though. Thats all I'm dissapointed with. The ending just left us with too many ananswered questions.

For example...

*SPOILER ALERT!*

What the hell is up with Robbie running on the hill when it explodes and then he comes back in Boston okay? I don't know about you but when I see a hummer going down in flames, I assume that something really destructive just happened. The damn hill was in flames, hundreds were slaughtered including army men who were trained for this kind of crap, and we're supposed to assume that one teenybopper kid survives the whole thing? I just don't buy it. I want some answers about that dammit.

Durring the boat scene, Tom Cruise meets some random chick with her daughter. We assume that she's an important character because she knows Tom. But instead she just dies and we don't hear about her again. Wouldn't it have just been easier to not include her in the movie at all and save us two minutes of plot holes?

After Tom killed the crazy man in the basement and the aliens begin attacking near the house, Rachel runs up stairs and Tom runs right after her. But he loses track of her once he reaches the top of the stairs. They were barely seperated for two minutes and we have to assume that she unbolted the door and ran the distance of a football feild in that time. And then she doesn't show up until Tom is trapped in the car and its just at such a random time. I don't care how good a screamer she was, I just find it hard to believe that the she was some kind of child running prodigy.

There's a couple smaller plot holes but for me to mention them would be nit picking. It was a good story that could have been great if it had just covered up some obvious plot holes.

Yeah, I saw this Saturday. I loved it. But I mean really! Robbie should have been DEAD! And I wonder why the aliens hit Ukraine first, eh?

I saw it yesterday. It was AWESOME! I was actually kinda scared. The special effects and such were good. But the noise the alien tripod things made will haunt me in my sleep for life.

I was also kinda confued during the boat scene when Tom met that random chick. I think that should have been left out...it didn't make much sense and it kinda ruined the scene. Ohh well.

Anyone else notice that those were like the same aliens Will Smith punched in Independence Day? The resemblance is uncanny.

Same with the sound effect of the Tripod. Its the same sound from Close Encounters.

I'm telling you, once those special effects drained their money, they had to pull out stuff from the old vault. Wink

The reason for the meeting of the other people was to show how badly it affected the world. It was to show the helplessness and separation of loved ones.

There was no acting in this movie. The crazy drunk guy did a good job....nothing else you really had to do. "Okay, pretend aliens are invading and killing everyone around you........GO!!!"

I loved it. But the ending was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo stupid. How did Bobby not die? What the hell?! And how their mom's house was still standing at the end was unrealistic. How can everything else be destroyed EXCEPT for that row of houses...cmon now. It would have been better if the daughter died because lets face it, s**t happens in real life.

I'm going to Boston if that ever happens cuz apparently its all good there in the end of the world.

I hated the ending. I thought the aliens were all-powerful and all of us would die. But what destroyed them were the bacteria. Those measly bacteria killed them. Stupid ending. Overall, it's a great movie. One thing I loved was the 18 wheeler truck-like noises the mechs make. HOOOOOONK!!!
What the hell is up with Robbie running on the hill when it explodes and then he comes back in Boston okay? Good old Steven is an advocate of happy endings. If you notice, in almost all of his movies the main character(s) live. He'll kill off every one of the side characters, but the main one's will win the day and everything will turn out all right. (Yeah, Robbie should have stayed dead.)
Durring the boat scene, Tom Cruise meets some random chick with her daughter. We assume that she's an important character because she knows Tom. This is two-fold. It is showing that anyone and everyone can and is being killed, no exeptions. It is also showing us the desperation of the situation and, in fact, how much the survival of these characters is based solely on dumb luck. It could have very well have been Tom Cruise who got stuck in the crowd while his friend and her daughter make it to (relative) safety.
After Tom killed the crazy man in the basement and the aliens begin attacking near the house, Rachel runs up stairs and Tom runs right after her. Dramatic effect, nothing more. Think about the situation: here is a man who has gone through hell trying to save his children, who has already lost one, and is now desperately trying to keep his youngest from harm. When he emerges into a very alien lanscape and sees her nowhere, panic immediately grips his body, coupled with the fact that he is now running for his own life as well, even though saving himsef is only secondary to that of his daughter. Since you cannot see her, the audience immediately assumes the worst, which is what the movie intends.

Bleh. I went for nothing better to do, and it could have been worse. But god could it have been better.
Ok, first of all, I spent the first half of the movie saying "wtf are these things?  It makes no sense".  Ok, so they buried their little machines underground before there were even humans, why?  Just a security measure in case further life developed and they'd have to use them when they came back?  It seems so stupid to me that these supposedly intelligent beings buried these huge machines of destruction on a planet, waited millions of years, then came back and blew everything up with them.  It's like us going to mars right now, burying a few hundred tanks, just in case life evolves and we need to exterminate it.

All the plot holes Sixx pointed out.  Just kill Robbie.  He died.  No one's surviving that, and there's no way he escaped on foot.  Or at least come up with a small mention of HOW.  It may not be believable, but it's better than throwing him in there.  I like happy endings as much as the next person (of course, I didn't like it character and wanted him to die anyway), but give me a break.  When he was saying he had to go join the war, I told my friend sitting next to me "See, this is what  happens to kids under the Bush administration".

How smart can they be if they don't understand the concept of bacteria?  The ending screamed "fuck, we have these invincible aliens but have to get rid of them so Tom can live.  Um..um...they all die!  Yeah!  They die by....bacteria!  They get a bad case of the sniffles and die!".  We're not advanced enough to fly around space and build super killing machines, but we understand microscopic organisms.

The little thing that sucks the people up out of the cage has been nicknamed the "super anus".  Come on, you know that's what it looked like.

When the first tripod pops up, it looks like it's pissing on the street.  Kinda killed the threatening mood when me and my friends can't stop laughing at it.

Tom Cruise can fuck off and die now.  He sucks harder than ever.  Could they have found one more excuse to get a nice camera angle for his ass?

But on the upside, I like the aliens' decorating.  Lovely shade of red.
Yeah. Good excuse to blow something up. But I've never been very entertained by that.

Read the book. Very Happy

Or listen to the radio show that scared the hell out of people in the late 30s.

Edit: SPOILERS!!!

I just saw it and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was the suspense that gripped me by the face like a psychotic python. The special effects were awesome and the sounds of the beams sliding through the people as thier clothes shot from thier, now dust, bodies was simply fantastic. Okay okay, so there were a few plot holes. I suspect Robbie got in a car or jumped onto the top of one and got away. I'm sure he isn't stupid enough to go sitting underneath it. The woman they met before the boat disaster (lol at the people dying), I'm sure, was just a bit of either dark humour or what Will said.. showing you that only the fittest survive. Also... how did the news crew get thier camera so close to the alien dudes? I told myself they drove there really fast... Maybe I'm right. But anyway, I didn't pick up on that. I try not to watch movies so overly-analytical. SIXX! IT'S JUST A FILM! There are aliens walking around tearing the planet apart.. why can't this girl run a million mph? ..Just kidding. Like Will said it's the suspense to keep you again.

Don't forget, people, a dude in 1800's wrote this story. What a f**king imagination! To write something like this which STILL has us hooked even so far away.

...Though the origional was based around London. ..the American directors and people couldn't let that happen though, could they

Seriously though. 4 out of 5 'cause there was no puppet sex like Team America.

All films should have puppet sex, dammit.

That may be true, but it was done poorly in that case. Even somehow briefly introducing her earlier would have been better than sticking in a random character. If a large portion of the audience is left thinking "who the fuck is she?" instead of the intended effect of "oh no, his friend is dying Sad ", that's a problem. Tom's character may have cared, but as someone watching the film, I couldn't care less that she died.
