Hm, must speak to Denis about this then. 'Cause I saw the option to turn off post counts when I made the "promote your shit" subforum and considered doing that on the RP forum. Really, yes they're posts, but they're not interaction. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |
Yeah, that's on my list of things to talk to Denis about. I'm going to see if there's any way he can go in and find out how many posts these people have just in the RP threads, and have them taken off their posts counts.
I know of no way to do that. If you can find an option somewhere in the admin to do it, you are welcome to do so.
As for the status levels. People usually have a custom one before the "If yo don't have a custom name by now, the mods are lazy".
You mods are welcome to change it around, but keep them approprate to the site (ie, not the ones from the rocker site)

When I was on Jake's board, he made a spam board where you could post whatever you wanted but it didn't go to your post count, so I'm sure there's a way you can do that. |

Actually, yeah, do that. RP posts shouldn't count.
Although personally I don't care about post counts much. |

Dude, Kate, I already said I know how to turn the post count off on that forum. Pay attention.
And the real issue with RP post counts is generally a post count shows how long a person has been around and/or how much they participate. Like my post count shows I can't keep my mouth shut. Denis only posts rarely. Newbies have low counts. Etc. etc. People who have 800 posts in a week are misleading and confusing when I see someone with a high count but have never seen their name.
And I turned post count off on the RP board. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

So there's no way you can take of the 2000 or so posts i got at the roleplay boards?
Lol, maybe you should turn the post count off at the test boards too... |

Unfortunately, no.
No one abuses the test forum, as far as I can see. Posting a couple test posts isn't a big deal. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I feel like I need to catch up. Isn't this FA's 3rd Message board? Anyhow...I'll do this in order after reading all this thread.
1) Ruled Paper. Note book. - Simply put...NOTES go in NOTEBOKES and ART goes in DRAWING, SKETCH, ART books. Computer paper generally reads as multipurpose somewhere on the packages. Therefore it's good for everything. The exception I can see...is if you scanned in lined paper PURPOSEFULLY as part of your composition...aka, a muted background, note on a bullitin board in image, etc. If it's effectively used in design and not put in for cheap convenience, then it can be tasteful. NOTE: Any artwork ON the lined paper on illustrations is usuall drawn seperate, colored, and superimposed.
2) Is Computer Paper Proffessional- Yes...and No. Yes, if you are using it for sketches, layout drawing, or for something you intend to scan and work on Digitally. Illustrators worship the clean paper because it is cleaner to work with than a sketch book. If you are using it for preliminary...that's fine. Sometimes, with creative framing, endwork comes out real nice. However, generally, it's considered low end finalized art. However, in the digital era that we are in...it's a godsend because it fits BEAUTIFULLY in the noticably shrunken down scanner beds. (My first scanner could hold larger than 11x17. All the new ones barely hold 8.5x 11)
3) Photoshop- There is only ONE and ONLY Photoshop. and it is owned by ADOBE! Microsoft has attempted a variety of knockoffs...but as with everything else of theirs, it is only halfassed, bug laden and not as good as the original. Microsoft has never, and Artists and Adobe forbid, WILL never own Photoshop.
4) I don't have time to do better.- My coloured works I submit tend to take me anywhere from a week to a couple of months to do, depending on the intricity, and my job schedule. I Teach Monday-Thurday and Saturdays. I work 9:30 till 6:30 most days except for when I have late evening classes. It's 9-9...often 2 days a week. I usually have freelance jobs going on for at least 2 Clients at once. Those are time consuming and incur anywhere from 8--15 hrs each. Often bumped up for more. And are ALWAYS deadlined on the Mondays...so I have to work on what little weekends I have. So I have to spend time talking with clients. Use what little free time I have for promotion at conventions and festivals. Advertisement of my work. I'm also an anime cosplay costume design. But, I ALWAYS make time to work on my art to get each picture as close to perfection as I can. If YOU can top my schedule and sleep deprivation, then YOU have a right to whine about not having not enough time. But SHAME on you if you take it out in your work. Above all things, an Artist should have pride in what they do....and Pride only comes from doing the Best in your skills and not using paltry goods. Otherwise, it isn't Pride....it's Ego.
5) What IS a sketch?- Simply put...I classify my work into more varied categories then FA has, so occassionally I get my images misclassified. ROUGH SKETCH- This is the prelimenary to anything I do. I'll never post one of those here. Average time-15 minutes-30 minuts WORKING SKETCH- This is where the details become formed and the general toning and shading. Average time up and with this point- 1 hour-1 and a half hours. RENDERED SKETCH- This is where the Highlights and shadow tones are better defined, and there are grey tones in addition to the contrast of highlight and dark...details are refined. Average time up and with this point- 3 Hours-6 Hours. FINAL DRAWING- This is where the polish and delicacies go. Finished drawing at this point. I'm up to anywhere from 7-9 hours of work on a drawing. Computer graphics work similarly, but due to the methods and depth and detail I put into digital art....it tends to take MUCH more time. Sometimes even double. That Sephiroth Picture of him in the lifestream...I masked and airbrushed each and one of those feathers on two levels of layers in Photoshop. It took me 4 Months to get that picture to the point it is at.
I suppose it is understandable why I get irked when someone complains about spending a WHOLE hour on a doodle on line paper.
6) I'm going to Media Minder!- oO...I am there. WONDERFUL for fanfics after Fanfiction.net began removing accounts and banning good writers. Terrible for Fanart.
7) Who is this Noob telling me what to do?- I'll give you three clues to reconsider that statement. One...look at my account. Two...look at the DATES on my works...and Three...I do this sort of thing for a living. I AM a proffessional Illustrator...and as such, I find it highly insulting to my proffession when people slander it with persuit of mediocrity.
8) L33T- If you know your English language, than please, use it properly. A little misgrammer and typo or occassional mispelling is fine. But leave numbers for counting and letters for communicating, please. Perhapse if you were actually paying attention in your English class rather than doodling, you might be able to better present a topic. And, it makes asking for people's assistance and suggestions much easier. (This is a general gripe...not to individuals in particular, but to a rather large and sadly illiterate seeming trend.) Oh, and for *insert your diety here*'s sake PLEASE know the difference between DROW (dark elf) and DRAW (a technique used to create visual representations). I spent a week in near painful confusion over an e-mail from someone wanting assistance. Note: I also create Drow costumes.
I hadn't meant to let this go on for so long...but a LOT of reading on this thread presented me with plenty of input material.
As for so few posts on the Forum...As I had mostly preferred doing topic assistance through the Chat...when it was still here...I hadn't noticed the new Forum. Need I mention it has been a LONG time since I last posted? I love the organization of this new one, though...and WONDERFUL work again, Mods and Admins! It looks fabulous. |

Agreed, only things I've seen done well during class were from college students who had hours of lectures to work during. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |
