They're better not be alot of people saying "OMG Harry potter is the greatest book ever!!1!!!!" Harry Potter is ok, but with all these fans, there are just too many it's killing it for me, I'm starting to hate it.
Lord of the Rings is a great book to my taste. It's popular, everyone saw the movie, half of those poeple read the books. But they're great.

I suggest you read 'The Queens Own Fool' but I can't remember who wrote it.Its about Queen Mary and her fool potrayed as a fantasy.Based on the history of Queen Mary of Scots.

The 'Honor Harrington' series by David Weber is like that, you can really fall into the books. They're some of my favorites. Wink Looong series though, and getting longer.

Well a good book would be "Das Parfum" by Patrick Sskind. It's a german author but the book is quite known so u should be able to get it in english. Unfortunatelly I dunno the english title...
It's very good, though a lil macabre at the end. If you like macabre books u'll love thiz one!
