I really admire Andy Warhol and his work. A lot of people think that he was just screen-printing random images just for the hell of it, but he wasn't really. He was making a statement, by showing how when you take some things out of context, they can be really ridiculous. Also, what is beauty? beauty can be a vase of roses, but maybe beauty can also be a soup can.
So what do you think of his work? _________________ |

I truely admire his use of bright colors and odd subject matter, but the constant use of repetition is a little too much for my taste. I understand that it is his signature style, but after a while one piece of art starts to blend into the next, and the originality of the consept is lost. The color-change repetition idea is cool, but like for one or two pieces of work, not a whole segment of his gallery. _________________ |

as you know from commenting on my pic beatlechick i heart andy.
the way he makes something of daily monotness life stand out is truely to be apprieve, if thats even the word im looking for. even now whenever im working at the warhol museum and having to carry around some of the heavy exhibit works i still stop in a daze to look at one of his pieces. and i love the techniques he used they made it fun for people who arent as creative to create stuff such as the blotted line dots. _________________ If every artist's sketch book was an actual place for your drawings to live, they say that my sketch book would be a horrible twisted place where sin runs wild, pervertion around every corner, gorie blood beneath your feet, and the occasional wickedly cute chibi . i think thats cute of them to say that. And there you've just described one of the main points he was trying to make. In advertising, you see the same images every single day to the point you never even look at them. It's a comment on the fact we see these images all the time and just don't care. Celebrity faces, food labels, all of it in mass advertising. He was playing on affectless, empty art. That there was a place for art that doesn't mean anything and isn't full of emotion.
It may have been more interesting for it to only be a handful of pieces, but then the same effect wouldn't be achieved. It's supposed to be boring and the same and leave no real impression on the viewer.
While at the same time, like with the 32 soup cans, they're all mostly the same and you instantly recognize them as a soup can, but with them all lined up you notice the little differences between them you never took the time to notice before.
Super cool guy. Who wouldn't want a following of drag queens? _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

He's my favourite of all-time. I've been completely obsessing over him lately. I know a lot of his relatives, the Warholas. I admire him. _________________ I am a Duranie and I am proud. |
