We use IP, name, and email bans. If they change their IP and create a new account, they generally continue the behavior that got them banned. If not, then there's no problem is there?

Bringing spam back is not open for discussion. If it does come back, it will come back when Denis wants it to.

Ok. Here are the details.

I got a call today from law enforcement regarding some content in the unmoderated section. The officer never did email me the details I requested on it >:0 but I suspect it was in the unmoderated photo's thread. Because of this, I have decided to close down the unmoderated forum. Having a forum of that nature is just asking for trouble. Because spam is also rather unmoderated and has many topics of a questionable nature which are probably also just bound to result in problems in the long term I have also chosen to close it.

In the future I may bring spam back in a moderated limited way, but that just seems pointless. Some future limited incarnation of unmoderated also could be created along the line of "controversial topics" but that also seems rather pointless. Either way, they are staying closed for a while.

As for who caused this.

I don't know for sure, but the most recent threat against FAC originated from a user who was recently deleted for posting stolen pictures.

This user is othello bubbles and her threat of "...beacuse of the poor way you run your site the athorites have been notafided, and hopefully you will change your ways." (SIC). Btw, that hotmail address also appears to be an msn id.

Dont know if it was just her, or some parent upset about their teen hanging out in unmoderated but either way, its gone now. A few posters going too far and an upset user or parent have ruined it for everyone.

Wow, that the third time i read it.

That makes a lot of sense.
But, why pick on such a web site? with just basicly fanart and art disscution and all?
They really must have nothing to do. I don't know why the parent or whoever said that made such a bit deal, just don't let your child on if you care THAT much, becuase you are ruining it for thousands of people who are mature or adults over 18 years of age.

Also, I think closing spam is a good idea in a way because you don't want to take any chances, but also spam gives us something more to talk about and sometimes even more personal issues because if you want to talk about personal issues in GD it some times would have to go further than Pg-13 disscution in that way. Just think that some people here don't have anyone to talk to and if they want to talk here to people about more adult issues, who, how and were are they going to talk about it? I know you have a life issues sort of forum but some things are more adult and are serious conversations though.

But, hey? when's the lat time you seen or read such a serious conversation?

Anyways, good call, deleting spam and all, you don't want to take any chances.

And 'sides, look on a bright side: Because of all the posts that were deleted, many users (i.e. the regulars of Spam and Unmoderated) now have a different forum listed as their "Most Active" on their FAC forum profile! ^_^

Holy Crap, I think Dewroo just beat me for the record of having the lowest "Most Active" percentage -- his is now 9%! Mine's dropped from 16% to 13%.

And Dogss just beat him -- his "Most Active" percentage is 5%. FIVE PRECENT!
