Artist Of The Week Or Month

Should there be a topic where people can make nominations for artists? If so, I have a few people I'd like to recommend.

o i think this is a very good idea! i also think artist of the month would be best, because there wouldn't be enough for weekly. but perhaps a top 3 or maybe top 5 would be good, like odera i said. that way, there could be more variety of artists. you don't really need to do it by drawing categories, because, like denis said, you'd run out of certain ones, but you could just have a top 3 each month and try to make them not all be anime or whatever.

as for voting... do you think people would get mad if only mods and site helpers chose them? i mean, i think that's a good way b/c we see these pics everyday on ap. but it might be more fair to the members if you had a poll going or something. maybe you could have one picked by members and one by mods? i don't know. but if you need more help i'd be happy to contribute in whatever way i can... yea

Based on the way my contests used to go and the number of votes they got, I think its just better to let staff choose.

We have a wide enough variety of staff that it should be reasonably representative of the community.

I do like the nomination idea though.

For those that would prefer it to be shorter than monthly, think of it this way. There are only so many [i]really[/i] good artists on this site. It's like a pyramid. If you go down too many levels, there's just too many to pick from. Pretty soon, going weekly, you'd hit the talent level where there's hundreds of artists at that same level. Then how do you pick? It'd be based more on personal opinion at that point than skill.

monthly...what Fallen said is true. and sorry Alex but I gotta go with let the mods do it....your gonna get alot of crap voted for if not. a few catagories (mayby) honorable mentions (mayby).

Heh, yes. There would no doubt be several who would end up winning just because their friends vote for them or because they happen to draw a really popular subject. We promise not to do that. Very Happy

Since I'd never even heard of most of the stuff drawn on here until I joined, y'all are safe from my opinions about such n' such show.

but I agree anything less then a month's just too much, some people wouldn't be on every week and would miss some of the winners ^__^ is there anyway I can help? I'd like too =^______^=
what happens if different Mods want different artists to win? will there be a poll with the few choices that anyone can vote in or something? :huh:

anyway i think that this is a great idea! artist of the month....hmmm....sounds great....

I like this idea of Artist of the Month. This way, people can get exposed to more artists who are not well known. I also have a suggestion. If you do go by categories, why not add a "Most Improved" category or something like that? I can think of a few people (one in particular...) that would really deserve it.

Most improved would be nice, but there are people who find stuff from 3 years ago and post it along side their current work, so you can never really tell.

As denis said, all winners are picked randomly. Once a winner has be choosen, there name is thrown out of the possible winners for the next drawing so as not to repeat. We have enough nominees to last us a year to two years by now. And all them will get their chance.

As for the most improved, not feeling it. That's to much to remember, and i'd much prefer what we're doing now. Anything else is to much effort, to time consuming, and to much of a hassle and we have enough things to fill those positions for us as it.

s'okay with the suggestions though and glad they're being made.

mikoa, if you're having trouble, just go in the help section as Kate said, or look up denis and ask him since he's the one who would deal with that sort of problem.

Yeah. This is definitely a great idea. It's a great goal for some people and it's definitely a really good thing to do, methinks. ^__^ For some of the better artists out there that perhaps people don't really know about, it's kind of a way to get recognition of their greatness ^_^ And you don't even really have to do categories. You can just do it based on their work overall. ^__^ Very good idea.
