Yoshiyuki Sadamoto

Yoshiyuki Sadamoto is a Japanese (duh) character designer who were one of the founding fathers of an infamous Anime studio, Gainax.

Working with his colleague, Anno Hideki, he was the chief designer for all of Gainax's major series.

Including:

Alpha
Nadia
Wings of Honneamise
Otaku no Video
Top wo Arere
[b]Shinseki Evangelion
Furi Kuri[/b]

He is currently working on serializing the Evangelion manga (the one started before the anime but is still going), he also worked as a character designer for early Fatal Fury series and .Hack//sign.

Since the mid 90's, Mr. Sadamoto has been using Painter to color all his pictures, his art is characterized by uniqueness of characters and clean, paintery feel to his coloring.

What really pushed him to the character designer stardom was the big mother of anime, Evangelion, where he designed everything from the characters to robots, to the logo.

After Evangelion, he was given the job of making character design for a miniseries, Furi Kuri, which is still heralded as one of the funnest anime.

Ah, Sadamoto. I used to love his art quite a bit, and my favourite points about is art is the style of colouring (because it's got quite a bit of depth, unlike a lot of other cgers who preter to use a wide variety of flat colours) and the line work, especially in the art that has it better defined.

And actually, that's the first time I've seen that picture, although I've seen the movie one a billion times. Oh, snagged that sketch of Kaworu, by the way. Been looking for a relatively large one for a while now, because I keep finding the itty bitty red one used for that one frame in the movie. =_=

And is that really a fanart of BlackRose? Because he was also the character designer for the .hack games.

oops, wrongly placed description. I didn't mean THAT was a fanart, I was trying to say that there is a lot of hacksign fanart in this site. (more than EVA, apparently). But I didn't have time to find a good fanart based on Mr. Sadamoto's character Sad

I blame the relentless hoards of fangirls, EEK! go away!

I assume that's because Eva is quite a bit older than .hack. Personally, I find Eva to be a little more interesting than .hack//SIGN, but that's just me (.hack//SIGN is much too slow plot-wise for me to handle).

Anyway, I guess there are a lot of people who admire his work. When I was first starting in the anime-style art field, I loved to do fanart of Kaworu, in Sadamoto's style. Of course, I was young and failed miserably, but that style still inspires me to do my own work. ^_^
