Who else here likes vector art? Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for others working with vector images? Any thoughts on color, shape, shading, etc? Any samples of your vector art you'd like to share?
I've had so many ideas, but I'm feeling very uninspired right now. I've been looking through vector art galleries, but I still need something to tap my brain. _________________ |

It's when you use paths to draw rather than a pixel-based canvas.
Here's an example by =ShouriMajo from DA.

See how clean and smooth the lines are? That's vector art. _________________ |

Ohhh... Nice. Sadly, up until this point, I've only seen people vector anime screencaps in order to make large wallpapers... It never fully occurred to me that one could use it for original artwork. *feels stupid*
I used to vector my scanned pictures, back when I had a Mac and didn't know anything about layers (or perhaps layers didn't even exist at that point in time). They were all really bad though, and ever since I've gotten used to Photoshop layers, I've never really gone back to it. My version of vectoring was kind of fake anyway - it consisted of making solid shapes, and then flood-filling them. Kind of pathetic, but then, I was young. ^^; |

Yeah, vector art is made up of mathematical technojunk that keeps the lines sharp and clear, so no matter how large/small you resize it, it'll still retain th same nice quality.
I can't do it at all. Never really tried. The word "math" kinda puts me off. That and I had to do a little bit once for my ICT class, and the tools didn't make much sense (or maybe my teacher just sucked that much). :/ _________________

At one point in my life I used vectors to do art like in THIS picture. That was one of the easiest ways for me to draw with a mouse. I don't really know of any tips I can give on it. I still haven't learned how to use color gradients in Adobe Illustrator (I can do grayscaled ones fine.) _________________

I use Freehand at work, as I'm currently doing some illustrations for a science textbook. Some of them turned out nice...the ones that weren't too boring anyway =)
Can't post them yet due to copyright reasons but I'll share once the book gets published. |

That would be so cool to draw the covers of text books. Especially science books! Those covers are always so brightly colored and interesting. Looking forward to the release! This year I'm going to try to see if I can do some vector art for the school's yearbook cover. Ever since I saw the beautiful yearbook cover two kids drew when I was in 9th grade, I've always wanted to have a chance to draw the cover, but never knew if I'd be able to. Then I moved to a different school, and their past two covers sucked. This year was the 50th anniversery of the school, and the cover was drawn last minute in like 10 minutes. I planned to buy a yearbook my senior year anyway this upcoming year, and so far I'm thinking that my the chance for my art to get on the cover at this school is pretty good from what I've seen. Maybe not at my other school where the artists were good, but at this school where everyone is lazy... yeah. _________________ |

Do vector arts require any knowledge in physics or trigonometry?
No thank you, I like my sanity. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

You do not need to do math when creating vector art. It's just pointing, dragging, and clicking, like in the example image above.
The Vector Math Library just includes functions such as the following. Not important to know when creating the art. (The computer takes care of the clarity control for you.)

It's so hard to use, IMO.
You know when Flash and such uses the paintbrush tool.. it's still vector, isn't it? |

Yep, it never looses resolution no matter how far you zoom in. Flash is for quick images and animation when you have to draw a ton of frames, but I prefer Illustrator for individual detailed pieces of work. You have more control over the exact shape. _________________ |

Yeah there's a certain air about vector images.. they're just clean and bold.. you can tell it is. Nice gallery. Kinda mundane though.. |
