Anyone catch it? New series on CBS. I still curse Dave Navarro for inflicting this on the innocent public, but it could have sucked more.

My passionate hatred of all reality music shows that involve performance competitions aside, thoughts:

Pros -

~ No kiddies! The youngest person is 22, vs the 16/17 kiddos on the pop version. Most of these people have paid some dues, learned to entertain and perform, and aren't just karaoke lovers who sing in the shower.
~ Originality is encouraged. Only a couple have classically "good" voices, but they have personality and aren't fitting into this narrow little "pop star" model.
~ Being the singer of INXS is much better than a shitty solo contract. The album is already written, they just need a performer.
~ A lot of them have some instrumental talent.

Cons -

~ Enough with the raping of classic songs! Knockin' On Heaven's Door has been well covered twice (and that's being generous), give it a rest. As the band said themselves, if you aren't going to sing it perfectly, just don't. Smells Like Teen Spirit is another that needs to be left alone.
~ A few too many impersonations. Yeah, that's a lovely Mick Jagger impression, but let's see you perform. If I can point out who you're trying to take after, that's too much influence.
~ You're not going to replace Michael Hutchence. Period. Perhaps finding an unknown is best, but it's a huge step backward. Do what everyone else does and pick up whoever was kicked out of their band last week. Razz
~ I'm ashamed for most of the girls. They're either boring or they sound like someone else. I don't want to hear a chick front INXS anyway.

Oh well, it could have sucked worse. It's still a crappy karaoke contest. But they're pretty to look at. Smile

Still, I will enjoy it better than Americas next top model, and just about any other reality tv show. Except maybe the surreal life, because that one is just funny.

It's by far better than American Idol. No irritating promotion that the winner is going to be a superstar. You're going to sing for INXS, the real celebrities, period. It's like an actual open call audition, only televised and drawn out longer.

The concept sucks, but they pulled it off better than I thought they would. Surreal Life is still the best "reality" show. Celebrity Fit Club has its moments, but I don't want to watch a chubby Jani Lane jog for very long without feeling ill.

I might actually watch an episode. It sounds pretty good. I liked Project Greenlight, because noone was trying to do everyone else. It was actually real, not like the real world, where I hear some of the cast were told to do certain things to make the show interesting at times. And I watch real sex sometimes to see the girls putting condoms on pickles to learn how to do it to show their men how to do it. But I think I'll catch an episode of this show you're talking about.

I hate American idol, it makes Smallvilles ratings go down. They sing well, but they are almost always a flavor of the month after the show ends. The winner from part one still makes albums I think (I'm not all into pop much, I wouldn't know) and I haven't heard much from Ruben Studdard and the 3rd year winner. It's all a stunt in my opinion, and it makes Smallvilles rating go down, that really hits me deep.

Fallen, tell me your thoughts on "Lost", please hate it, I just want to hear another soul like myself who doesn't like that damn show. I guess 24 is good, I never watched it, but I give them props for the risk of a new show every week.

I've never watched Lost. A friend loves it, but what she described sounded stupid, so I never bothered to check it out.

We've had enough threads about American Idol, so I won't spoil this one with another list of reasons it sucks. But this one actually is much more "real" than a bunch of young karaoke lovers trying to win a crappy deal that no independent artist would ever sign. Most may be able to sing, but they're boring. Sound just like everyone else.

Another thing about Rock Star: INXS is it protects against pity votes. Like that one guy that kept sticking around one season of American Idol because girls felt sorry for him. In this one, the three lowest votes are up for elimination, and they have to perform one more time, then the band chooses who goes. Which makes much more sense, considering it will be their frontperson.

And I was glad, because the boring guy with moderate talent was kicked off first, and he probably didn't have the lowest vote 'cause girls liked him. . . . .

Dunno if anyone is actually watching this, but I'll add what I think anyway. 'Cause I'm one of the losers who cares who the singer of INXS is and not some shitty reality show.

Wish Jessica would have gone instead of Neal. Sad Jessica would ruin the songs, and Neal was worse, but at least he was fun to watch. Jessica is uncomfortable and boring and focuses more on shaking her ass than having a personality. Tara did better, though. Still, kick her next.

I rather like MiG. He killed Walk This Way, but just about anyone would. A woman shouldn't front INXS, let's just kick all the females off now. The more I start listening to them again, all these people on the show are going to be nowhere close to Michael Hutchence, and that's sad. Sad Maybe what's his name, who did Sweet Home Alabama. Or possibly MiG. But not the blonde one or the black one. J.D. is an arrogant prick.

If it weren't INXS, Heather and the girl with the dreads would have my support. Those two might almost be able to do it, their voices are lower and more suited to the way Michael sang. I won't pay INXS any attention after the show's over 'cause without Michael they're nothing, but it's interesting for now.

Someone start watching this so I don't have to talk to myself. Razz

I watched it Fallen. I won't let you talk to yourself.
Wish Jessica would have gone instead of Neal.  Jessica would ruin the songs, and Neal was worse, but at least he was fun to watch. Jessica is uncomfortable and boring and focuses more on shaking her ass than having a personality. Tara did better, though. Still, kick her next.
That was exactly what I thought. I hate Jessica. She really annoys me. I want to strangle her. Neal was fun to watch, but he really needs to work on his vocals. But still I was so upset that he got kicked off instead of Jessica. I wanted to throw something at my tv...Tara did do a little better but I agree she needs to be kicked next. I personally dont think she did really well on Paranoid. And obviously so did the voters. I just love that she started to cry when Neal got kicked off.

Right now MiG is personally my favorite but none of them really have the classic rock voice that I love.

I love how everyone reacted to what J. D. said. Especially after they showed the footage to everyone. Tara over reacts too much.

I believe the girl with the dreads is Jordis. Weird name but I just noticed she was from Minnesota and I live in Wisconsin so I just that it was interestin she was from around here so I just remembered.

For now this is my entertainment too because there's nothing better on tv and I need a break from reading stupid Moby Dick everyonce in awhile.. That book is so evil. I'm gonna have nightmares about whales for the rest of my life... Well anyways I just hope Jessica or Tara get kicked off next week. Very Happy

Indeed, it was good fun. Reality show drama. "Omg I hate you!!! But now we're in front of the band, so we loooooove each other again" I agree that none of them have the right voice for INXS. It would be fine if it was only a matter of singing on the new album, but they'll have to perform all the old songs too. And pretty much any of them would suck at it. :(

They should just weed it out right now. Laughing Get it down to MiG, Jordis, Heather, and JD, and get going. Even though his version of Walk This Way was a pale imitation of the original, it was quite impressive for MiG to get all the words in there and stay with the music. Plus he's better looking than JD. Only problem I have with JD is his ego. It's hard to say a rock star has too much ego, but come on dude, you're gonna be fronting INXS. You aren't shit compared to them. Tone it down and get to work. Plus I think his voice is a bit wrong for the band, but we'll see when he finally has to sing their songs.

That's the last four I want, though. MiG, Jordis, Heather, and JD. Maybe Brandon, but I think he'd be better suited fronting Lynyrd Skynyrd than this. And I don't think Daphna has the right personality.

MiG is alot better looking than JD....
JD has waaaaay too much ego. He thinks he's the best singer there/has the most potential because he loves INXS so much. Yeah right you're not any better than the rest of them...

I personally don't like Heather but then again I really don't like any of the girls. Especially Jessica, Tara, Suzie, and Daphna. I bet Daphna has a big ego too because her parents both have music careers but she just doesn't show it like JD. I guess Jordis isn't as bad as the others but still I don't like her all that much either cause like I said I really don't like the girls. I guess I just don't see girls being in a rock band eventho I am a girl myself. I can't think of any good hard rock band having a girl as a lead singer. The only band I can really think of with girls in it is Vixen and personally I didn't really like them either. I hope I didn't offend anybody by this, it's just my opinion.

I don't like girls in most rock bands. I like Lita Ford and Joan Jett. But they're nothing like INXS. INXS is so melodic that they're practically singing like pop stars.

I don't want Jordis or Heather to win. I just want them in the final four 'cause I like watching them more than the rest, especially the girls. MiG should win, of the options.

You kinda have to wonder how impressed INXS would be with JD when he started telling them what to do with the songs. Sure, he arranged California Dreaming, great, but when he's face to face with the band telling them he thinks it should be done differently, battle of the egos right there. Laughing And I think the platinum selling legends just might have it over little JD...

Wow such drama tonite.... Of course everyone has to shed a tear for Neal. And Jessica should feel bad dammit!!! Speakin of Jessica she needs her makeup.. She scares me without it Surprised ...

I love how JD tries to deny his comment wasn't against them. I think Brandon should've beat the crap out of him. At least Brandon told him how he really felt unlike everyone else who was just keepin it all in. But honestly JD was just being a cocky little son of a bitch. His ego seems to be getting bigger by the minute. He must really think he has the best chance. I bet Ty will love him if he saw the look he gave while watching Ty's performance and also the comment about "He'll make another band very happy".... Then he was suckin up to Jordis to get We are the Champions. Well I bet he feels stupid about that one since he got it and is suckin with it. I'm so glad Jordis didn't trade back.Very Happy Oh yeah I also love how he said to Jordis that he thought her last performance, nirvana, rocked, when it was actually hoobastank. That was great.... It also made me feel special that the band leader guy said his version of we are the champions was awful. It made me smile. Very Happy
Well enough about JD...

I really liked when INXS told everyone their opinions about their performances. I loved the looks and comments people gave. Like Daphna sayin Suzie's teeth were too much. It's like what do you want her to do? Let her teeth get yellow? Then look Daphna gave when someone said her one performance walk,or step or whatever ya wanna call it, was too much.

And of course MiG's phone call to his wife.... made me want to gag..... It was funny tho but sickenin at the same time. I just wanted the I love you's to end!!!!

Can't wait to see everybody's performances tomorrow. I hope JD blows it just to get a good laugh..

Blinding teeth worked for Jon Bon Jovi. Laughing

Hour and a half to go before I can add my thoughts. About time someone knocked JD back in his place.

Laughing That was awesome. It's about time JD got an ego blow. I want him to see the footage during the credits of MiG. Show him how superior he is.

I'm gonna be gone until Saturday without internet or tv access, so I'll have to check up on what happened and the video clips online then. Sad I'm glad Jordis didn't trade him again. The more I watch, the more I hate JD.

Look at the times of those posts, smart one. Wink A couple hours (or days) is an acceptable amount of time to just add a new post instead of editing the first one.
Poke him and find out...
I'm female.

Anyway, this week:

Why did Jessica have to save herself. Grr! I'm glad Heather and Daphna are gone, though. There are some worse people by far (Tara, Jessica...), but both of them aren't as fun to watch anymore. Which is a pity. If that's the level they would have stayed at, good riddance. I was looking forward to JD's shitty version of We Are The Champions. :(

I think MiG really shone this week. Sure, he may not have changed the song much, but so? I don't want to see anyone change the INXS songs, either. His voice would be great for the way Michael sang, he can do low and melodic as well as rougher. The "get down on my knees" wasn't that bad. A bit literal, but it was gracefully done.

I also like Marty better when he isn't jumping around like a jackass on speed. Tara's version of Suffragette City makes me weep. Damn you, woman... Killed.

Good riddance to Daphna and Heather. Here's to Tara and Jessica going next. Cool

What the... I thought you said you were gonna be back Saturday. Did you see all of MiG's performance including the part with INXS's comments? That was great. Very Happy

That was awesome that both Daphna and Heather got kicked off but I really wanted Jessica to go instead. Dam her.

Most of the performances really sucked this week tho. I say there were about 3 that were good. Everyone else pretty much just killed their song. That's funny that JD realized that his version sucked and stuck with the original. Eventho he still sucked and I'm sure he got some pity votes or something because he saw his sister that he hasn't seen for over 2 years or whatever. In otherwords his excuse why he sucked so much. But I did find it funny that JD seemed to get better comments than people that seemed to do better than him.

Anyways I really don't want them to kick off 2 people at the same time again because I don't want the show to end soon. I dont want my entertainment to end. Sad

Nope, I managed to have a slow internet connection at my grandparents' house but couldn't watch it on tv, so I read the summary and watched the performance videos on Thursday morning. :(

I agree that most of the performances were sub par, but I don't like many of the performers. So all the better that they do poorly. Very Happy JD's excuse was beyond lame, I really hope he ends up in the bottom three for his crappy singing, ego, and attitude. There can't be that many people still cheering for him. <_< Mostly I want to see him try to sing an INXS song. Put up or shut up...

Hopefully Tara and Jessica are next. The band probably wouldn't kick JD at this point, but maybe he'll really murder the INXS song. Cool Ty and Brandon can go too. I'm more interested in Marty after seeing him calm it down a bit, but MiG is still by far my favorite. MiG, Jordis, and Marty would be an interesting final three....

Poor you Sad . I think I would die without TV and internet because thats basically my life. but thats just me.... Does that mean you didn't get to see the part where MiG took his shirt off?! He has one hell of a nice body Very Happy ... I'm sorry if you could care less but it's just my girly side coming out.

Of course JD's excuse was beyond lame. He even added a tear here and there too. Now that was funny. Whenever INXS started to say something bad about his performance he would interupt them by saying something like its just that *tear* I haven't seen her forever. or I choked up when my eyes met hers *tear*.... He just needs to face reality and realize hes not as great as he thinks he is.

Yes we do need Tara and Jessica to go still. If they just kick off one person next week I'm hoping its Jessica more than Tara tho. I just cant stand her.

Yes MiG, Jordis and Marty would be interestin in the final three but I really don't care about Marty all that much but he's better than most I guess.
