I was searching for 20 minutes to find where I should place my new picture
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures.php?pid=255276
Can't you make something where one can click on a broader category and it will automatically drop down to reveal the subcategories or somethin'?
EDIT: oops, wrong forum, it ought to be moved. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

Contrary to Dewroo's post, this is NOT a duplicate topic. Leo's topic was discussing the layout of the forums. This topic refers specifically to the FAC Fantasy>Dragons section.
Fantasy>Dragons has all those subcategories because of demand -- there are over 1,500 dragon pictures, about half of which can't be easily sorted into the subcats.
Can't you make something where one can click on a broader category and it will automatically drop down to reveal the subcategories or somethin'?
You mean in the category navigation sidebar? No, that would be too much work.
When submitting a picture, just look through the existing categories using your mouse wheel or the listbox's scroll buttons.
As for where to put dragon pictures themselves, here's my guide (follow the steps in order):
1- If it's an anthro style dragon (i.e. bipedal), put it in the "Anthro/Human Dragons" area.
2- If it's a Chinese style dragon, always put it the "Oriental/Eastern Dragons" area.
3- (If you get this far, then I'll assume it's a Western/European style dragon you have)
4- If it's a headshot or portrait, put in the "Dragon Heads/Faces" area.
5- Classify it by body shape. "Wyverns" section for dragons with a pair of wings and a pair of hind legs (but no forelegs). "Drakes" section for dragons without wings, and "Winged Serpents" section for dragons with wings, but no legs.
6- If the dragon exhibits a very strong elemental theme (such as fire, ice, etc.), then look up and put it in the category for that element.
7- If it's a baby dragon, a hatchling, put it in the "Dragon Eggs/Hatchlings" area.

I have an easy solution! Never draw a dragon again. _________________ I have magical female powers

It's Stratadrake's evil conspiracy to stop FAC members from drawing any dragons _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

Stratadrake wants dragon monopoly, so he devised a submitting system so complicated only HE could understand!!!!   _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |
but then, the categories will get bigger and bigger and bigger

That is the nature of things.
Besides, you try coming up with ways to partition a category when it has over 1,000+ pics in it
Also, Fantasy/Dragons absolutely pales in comparison to some other sections like Anime/Manga > Original > Female (which has 5,000+ pics).... :o
It's not like the subcategories are THAT hard to understand. You're just intimidated by the sheer variety of them _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA
