I'm quite disappointed everytime I look at the recent pictures, there's always about three I like, and the rest looks traced, copied, generic, evilish...

True, there are usualy only a few decent pics, but if you look closely, there are others that show the artist obviously has potencial. I tend to comment on really awsome or just decent pics, and every once in a while I'll check out some others to see if anyone has any half-decent ones. |

Yeah... MS paint sonic pieces annoy me too.
But what really bugs me is the lack of decent traditionaly colored pieces. There's so few a day, if any. It really bugs me because those are what I love the most. |

I check the Recent Thumbnails pages every day -- and we currently average about 24 pages of submissions per day.
However, despite the high number of pics, the average page has like 0.2113 pictures that strike me as interesting So my answer ... has to be zero.

I don't think I ever drew any of the types of generic arts you've listed.
*sighs, I'll keep on doing my random paintings, although I feel like doing chibi tonight

*microwaves a few Inuyasha chibis and serves them on a plate*
I hardly ever look through the Recent Thumbnails. It's usually not worth it... Some pages will have a couple interesting pictures, some will have none. Guess I'll average it and vote for 'one'. ^^
Pictures don't really jump out at me unless they're in color. And then, they have to be colored nicely. And then, they have to be of some subject that I'm interested in. Sure cuts down my options rather quickly. |

I had to choose 0. I love this site, but there is just so much crap submitted here everyday it tends to make me sick. If anyone has any suggestions on how they think we can filter out the crap go for it. Suggest away :)
First of all a folder for your garbage throw away art that you still feel the need to post. That is possibly in the works.
Something that has been brought up in the past is a rating system. Kind of like the one that otaku.com has. Pictures get rated, and that rating goes toward your overall artist rating. I think this would discourage people from putting up crappy art. I used to post on theotaku and i know that getting like a rating of 64% got me submitting my better work and removing my bad stuff. The rating system is easy to abuse though... there would be an increase in multiple accounts that people would use to rate their own work and others. People rate high based on the submission content rather than on quality. Inuyasha drawings (sh*tty or not) would be rated high, while original characters would probably get around 60% to begin with. Over time it would increase but.. discouraging at first.
Having pictures of the day and artists of the week on the main page will showcase our more talented artists. Hopefully this will draw more people to the site and encourage others to work toward that level of talent.
I really wish that suggesting to certain people that maybe they should try to improve before posting would work.. but it doesn't. I'm beyond sick of seeing horrid "art" submitted with little to no effort put into them at all. Makes me sad
Artwork is so un-original these days...
On this site, at least. The kids are young, and young artists copy to learn. And copy badly, at that. And there's very few submission guides, so it all gets shared. Sort of a slightly more mature "mommy, look what I did, hang it on the fridge now!".
If you want quality, you have to go to Epilogue (and such), no way around it. Heavy quality control, 100% original required. Epilogue is a showcase, FAC is a community of "look what I can do", no matter how good or horrible it is.
But that being said, I went with 0. But I hardly ever look at the recent uploads. Every couple weeks I'll go through the categories I like and see if there's anything new. There's relatively few pictures in them (that aren't mine, in some cases ).
EDIT: And a rating system makes me die a little inside everytime it's brought up. It's such a great theory but will never ever be implemented well (on any site). Those that have it have poor, beaten down, abused versions where horrible art has high ratings for subject matter or artist popularity, and trolls who have nothing better to do than trash other people's ratings. It's a nice idea, but one that would be more of a burden to most users... _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Understandable. After typing out my previous response I noticed there were more cons than pros.
I know there will never be a way to kill the garbage art on the fanart portion of FAC.. but hopefully we can do something to increase the good stuff.

Getting rid of the "like it", "so-so", and "dislike it" ratings was one of the best changes DA ever made. Nothing was more insulting/confusing than having someone say they didn't like it or only thought it was ok without giving a reason. Or worse, a really positive comment then a "so-so" rating. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |
rating system makes me die a little inside everytime it's brought up.
I hate that system , I quit Gaia because of it, about half of the "top" artist had no real talent in actual art, they were just good at copying style from other anime artists and they could color.
Although there is a moderated rating system where only dozens of site helpers & moderaters with no biased opinions and actually have knowledge above middle school art can rate the art if they choose to, I can see how that could work.
then, their profiles will be flooded with bribes, I dunno, when I said 3 GOOD arts, I meant palatable, like vegemite. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

Rating also don't works if the person/artist is.. how can I say.. "popular" I see pics on SA or DA which get ton of faves and I stopped asking myself *why?* just because they have over 100.000 views and the half globus know that they exist.. bad ad is even ad.. that's a fact, but thinking of that I better stay unknown.. _________________ - hmm... did someone say "MUFFIN"? - |

eh sometimes ill see about 5 some times none but i went with at lest 4 cuz i normally find something in some sort of aspect that i like, well unless its pointless fangirldom-fanartiness,like thatss even a word but oh well. _________________ If every artist's sketch book was an actual place for your drawings to live, they say that my sketch book would be a horrible twisted place where sin runs wild, pervertion around every corner, gorie blood beneath your feet, and the occasional wickedly cute chibi . i think thats cute of them to say that. SA is sheezy art, the DA knock off site that started off with very relaxed rules and was a haven for the furry porn artists, but they soon realized more rules were needed, and now it's just another art site people run to from DA. It's ugly, and people can (last time I checked) choose the colors for their userpages, which led to tons of horrible eye-hurting pages.
The "like it", "so so", and "don't like it" were horrible because it only led to abuse, and you had a percentage of how many people like it displayed on your picture, just as a percentage rating would be here. Popular artists always had 100% liked no matter what the piece was because 200 people would comment. Lesser known artists or less skilled often had 50% or less because all it takes is one flamer or person who's too lazy to give advice and just clicks "dislike it" instead. The thing is, most people who click on a piece and don't like it won't bother commenting because it takes too much effort. But they were much more likely to click a button to say so, and that's discouraging to the artists. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Yep as said, DA is DeviantArt and SA is SheezyArt. The most peeving Thing on these both are the loading times.. just to add that...
The thing with the popular artists is.. if they ever comment on art which comes closer to their "believed rank of skill" (let's call that this way) they almost kill you, with critics you would never think of, with stuff they just add to keep the quality of other art down, luckily I never got such one in my gallery, but I see it at a bunch of my friend's. I just can't look at it anymore without getting depressions... they sell prints and get comments in awe like the sh.... and others which are really awesome just get stuff like.. *really great but I don't like the background* ..hmmts... I think that will never change. _________________ - hmm... did someone say "MUFFIN"? - |
