no but its pretty weird, its chemicals, its gonna be going on fover, especially with all those storage capsals and tanks the fire is spreading more and those are catching fire, there are like mushroom clouds and everything. they are not letteing anyone into the 1 mile radius of the explosion and only letting people out to evacuate, not even to go home, its crazy. good thing my sister left, she lives REALLY close, like 2 miles, may seem far but it was a huge plant that caught fire. crazy |

yeah, i guess they new a while before something was gonna explode and they had warnings, (then again nto many people work night shifts. ya?round 10:30pm) and so they evacuated,
you know what sucks? not only the fact that the chemicals exploded, but you know office supplies and everything else there too, there are A LOT of items that peopl use areound houses and everything they had there too, thats like flammable, you know white out and some air fresheners and crap, the chemicals are enough but imagine all those little things : ( mixed with the chemicals too XD

not funny

QUOTE (WXYZ Detroit) | A series of fiery explosions rocked a chemical plant in Romulus Tuesday, and the firestorm burned all night long. Hundreds of people were forced out of their homes and into evacuations centers. The cleanup and recovery was only just getting underway at noon Wednesday, almost 15 hours after the fire started.
It was just after 9:15 Tuesday night when the first signs of trouble started. 8 workers inside the E. Q. Resource Recovery plant thought there was something not quite right in the air.
According to Dan Gilbert, spokesperson for E. Q. Resource Recovery, "They smelled a solvent smell, so they thought that that was odd. And then an alarm went off. We have a pretty sophisticated system of sensors on the tank farm and everything and an alarm went off. They were all carrying walkie-talkies, communicated with each other to implement the emergency evacuation plan that we have in place."
The 8 workers got out and only moments later, it was explosion after explosion. Soon, huge fireballs filled the sky over Romulus and Wayne, along with incredibly thick black smoke.
One woman, who lives close to the plant and witnessed the explosion, spoke with 7 Action News. She explained, "I didnt know what was going on. I didnt know if it was a plant crash or a bomb. We didnt know what was going on."
Thousands of residents, living within one square mile of the plant, were evacuated because of the potential dangers present by all the burning chemicals.
The E. Q. plant is a recycling facility that recycles industrial paint solvents, as well as propylene glycol, which is part of the deicing solution used at Metro Airport.
22 people were treated at local hospitals, most complaining of burning sensations in the mouth and difficulty breathing. They were all treated and released.
By noon Wednesday, the EPA and fire departments had decided that it is safe for firefighters to start attacking the remnants of the fire, using water and foam.
Investigators are still unsure what sparked these chemical plants explosions in the first place. When all the fires are extinguished, the cause of the blaze will be investigated.
It was all over the news last night and this mourning. My uncle works not to far away from there. I'm just worried no chemicals get caught in the air and spread around along with the wind. That would be not so good. |
