I used to go to Mangaacademy sporadically, but I found FAC,

They take something like 3 days to approve one picture. and they always want money from you. How about you people?

DA, definently. I've never heard of Manga Academy, but I have seen the Gaia site once, and I've browsed through Sheezy Art a few times here and there.

I go to DA sometimes, but my friend who's a member there says whenever the DA has an exhibition they take people's art and display it without permission from the owner. I'm not sure if they give credits.

It's in the terms of service for DA that everyone agreed to when they signed up. By agreeing, you grant DA the permission to use your image for non-profit, promotional purposes. Meaning they won't sell your art, but they can use it in an ad or banner for DA, and they do credit the artist. It would be bad for them if they didn't. People would be left saying "man, I really like that picture, I'm gonna go to that site and look at it...but who's it by?".

It doesn't hurt anything, people freak out about the most petty things when it comes to art usage. FAC has a similar part because otherwise you could technically sue a website for generating thumbnails or displaying your art in a "pictures of the day" section. You grant them the permission to duplicate (ie "copy", thus copyright) your image for non profit purposes. If anything, it's beneficial to the artist and gets them additional exposure for their work. :)

Anyway, DA is the only other place I actually have a gallery. And I spend the most time there other than FAC. But you forgot Epilogue, Elfwood, Renderocity, GFXartist, Eatpoo, and Side7. Wink

Great site, mostly only for pro-level. You can contribute there with lower skill, but you'll be ripped a new asshole. Very blunt, crit-oriented.

Elfwood sucks. They have way too many fuckin' restrictions and rules. The layout takes too long to load, and it's all fantasy or fanart of characters in games/books, but you can't have real people. WTF? The site is hard to navigate, too.

I never said Elfwood was quality. Razz I agree with you, above and beyond, in their suckiness. Approval takes too long, definition of "fantasy" too subjective and narrow, majority of artists suck, and the layout couldn't be worse. But it does exist, and Brian forgot it. Laughing

Side 7 used to be good. I know the last time I was there it took ages and ages to load the page. I really like browsing through Digital Art. I've seen lower-level stuff, but a lot of the art is professional and extremely high quality. I've gotten a number of references from this place. And my art teacher posts here, too. Laughing
Here at FAC I feel like one of the decent artists here when at DA I don't even think my talent comes close to most of the work I've seen.
I agree with you there. I'm pretty confident here, but at DA, I'm surrounded by people with such beautiful art that it makes me want to improve even more.

Is Media Miner still alive?
