Then again, you wouldn't be able to tell that your pictures were in the pic of the hour unless someone commented on it.

Two of mine have, that I know of (since people left "this is picture of the hour" comments). And of course they had to be two old and crappy ones. Figures.

Every hour, each pic has a 4 in 180,355 chance of getting selected. Those chances get worse by about 600 a day.

but you know, most likely if your pic comes up there is a 50/50 chance it is a good or bad one, and theres a 50/50 chance they will like it and look at the rest of your gallerry or they wont and skip your gallery

Well, those are beautiful odds. I wonder if we could replace the "Picture of the Hour" thing with something else. Maybe something similar to DA's featured deviations--show casing pictures the moderators believe shows something special or whatnot.

A lot of art is already like that, sitting around getting no attention. A lot of it sits in someone's gallery and never gets ANY comments--I know I have pics like that.

I like how on DA and MM (media miner--is that still alive?), they post thumbnails on the main page of recently uploaded works. Perhaps we could do something similar, too. I do like the change every fifteen minutes or whenever you refresh a page.

We had random images generated not too long ago, but it takes too many site resources to do that (FAC doesn't have the extreme technical support DA and other big sites have). 'Cause every time you refresh, the site would have to select an image from the X number of total pictures, and it would be a nightmare. Pictures of the hour is a nice balance for now, but there's new things in the layout coming up, not pic of the hour.
