I do both, but I like doing OCs better. It's just you being you, no limits. But I agree with VR on the original spin on licensed characters. Those are fun to see.

I like doing both but when i attempt fanart i sometimes try to make it look exactly like it but it's fun to put your own spin on it too.

I don't draw a lot of fanart because I find that I have trouble mimicking styles. I attempted to draw Ed (from FMA, not Cowboy Beebop) at a convention and failed miserably because I couldn't get the eyes right.

Hmm, I'd have to say I like to draw OCs more often than fanart, but I actually like to *see* people's fanart more than OCs. It's nice to be able to recognize something.

I prefer looking at fanart... There's not much point in looking at pictures of people who mean nothing whatsoever to me, y'know?

I like drawing fanart too, because it means I don't have to put too much though into drawing it, since it's already based on something/someone. (I think most of the pics in my gallery are OCs but that's totally not the point.)

That's not what I mean. I appreciate that people put a lot of effort into their pictures, and sometimes I do look at people's original characters, but only if I like their fanart so much I take it upon myself to look at their gallery. I don't go searching for original characters or browsing through any sections labelled "original" because I don't see the point.

Most of my fanart is of rock stars, not characters, so when I'm drawing I usually just use a photo. It's easier than coming up with things from my own head. When I try to do that for my OC Rain it just comes out looking cartoony.
I look around at the Recent pics to find any good OC artwork to comment. If it's really high quality fanart I don't care, I just want to see original work. It feels funny wanting to see originals so much on "Fanart" Central XD
I browse the recently added page a lot myself. If I like what I see from someone, normally I go through thier gallery and comment like crazy.

lol, I'm with you there. A lot of it does come down to people drawing favorite characters and what not.

It's funny, I think about drawing fanart from time to time, and then I just don't. I don't get any satisfaction from drawing fanart, whether I get comments on it or not.

Inuyasha makes me angry... But it's true. People will scream over crap that come from their favorite series and brush by phenominal originals.

I like to draw ocs and mythical creatures. I like the ocs for people because you can make them look how ever you want and it is fine. You have more freedom. It also makes the person you do it for happy while you get to improve your techniques. I see too many people copying their fav art and being boring and unoriginal. We need some differences to spice up our art.

Yes! I can't wait to see that. ...Watch it get all these comments that are all saying "Oh, that's so true. No one comments because of quality." Blurdy hypocrites.

Hey, you should give the fanartists some credit. A lot of the pictures here are... not so good... but they're done by kids who haven't found their own style yet. I absolutely love seeing well-done fanart, and there's plenty of it out there if you look hard enough. Maybe I'm just being a bit hyper and giddy because I went to Comiket this weekend and bought tons of doujinshi, but I love everything that I bought, and all of it is based on pre-existing series.

Pop'n Music doujin....

We're not dissing fanart in general--there's nothing wrong with that. What we're moaning about are scribbles that get 1.5 billion comments because it's Inuyasha or Sesshoumaru or Ed.
I keep forgetting to scan those pics of my OCs mocking the fact that people only seem to care about Inuyasha crap and not well thought out original work that's higher quality to begin with. I'll get them up I promise! XP
You better! lol, people will comment all over that, like I mentioned before, saying how it's so true. Blurdy hypocrites, the lot of them.

Jessica prefers OCs because...it's easier for her. She does do fanart once in a while, though.

Part of me wants to rebel against the flow of things. I do really like to do fanart, but more than often I like to draw my own stuff. I also had someone leave a message on my profile once that said that the reason no one was commenting on my art is because I dont draw anything that people like to see. And if I wanted to get recognition, start drawing anime characters that are popular. That just steams me, I believe that I'm original. I do fanart, but I'd like to be recognized more for my original stuff. ^-^
