I'll be really really honest with all of you. I like fanart more because then I know exactly what my character's hair and eye color will be like, the clothes and perhaps the posture.
I like doing fanart OC too...it's fun to change the hairstyle of certain anime characters and their clothes too.
I can't ever do original art...or maybe I didn't take the time to try them out yet. Fanart are generally more fun because I like to draw a character that I really like (be it a guy or a girl). And the only time I'd take more effort in drawing a fanart is when I know I'm drawing a character that I really like.
But here comes the honest part. I think original characters are a lot tougher to draw. Fanarts can generally be drawn if you have a reference picture to look at. I'm still quite a newbie and not confident enough to draw original characters...yet. _________________ Check out my art on FAC! - http://www.fanart-central.net/user-wittlewabbit.php

I think it's a bit strange that many people seem to look down on fanart and fanartists on a site that is actually named Fanart Central. I'm not looking to start a fight here, it's just been confusing me. Sure, you have to put your imagination to work a lot more when drawing an original character (unless you already drew that character 4+ times, then I personally have to work less than when drawing fanart), but you have to admit that it takes a certain amount of skill to be able to draw somebody else's character and make it recognizable (if you're not tracing or copying it). Is it because of this Inuyasha (or whatever it's called) show that everybody is talking about? Could anyone who is anti-fanart possibly be able to explain this to me, please, because I've been wondering about this since I first stuck my head into the forums. _________________

I chose all of the above. Whilee I prefer drawing my own characters, I still like drawing fanart. |

You're right Choco, I dont think it's right to slam any kinda fanart......except for things in real galleries that are one humongous sheet of white paper with a few crayon scribbles in the center and called Snow Blizzard....they sold it to the museum for a couple thousand....
ANYWAYS, if fanart is your thing, do it, and dont slam OC's. If OC's are your thing, then dont slam fanart, even if it is somethingother people have done hundreds of times over. Live and let live, and enjoy the variations in one thing. No one's a bad artist!!! Keep on drawing guys, OC's, Fanart, or what have you! YOu're all awesome ^_^ _________________ Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you're up to.
Trespassers will be shot. Survivors will be shot again...as well it should be. If you're not sure it's dead, put a bunch more holes in it, should fix the problem... |
