I would have preferred it if he'd followed his original ambition and become an architect. - Paula Hitler

Adolf Hitler was born in Austria, April 20th, 1889 ( 100 years before me)

He dropped out of his highschool when he was sixteen to pursue his artist career, he was particularly interested in architecture.

After he was rejected twice by the Academy of Arts in Vienna (19071908) for "lack of talent"which he resented deeplyhe did not try to find a different job or learn a profession. He was told he should become an architect, since he had some flair for painting buildings. (from wikipedia)

Healthy art has a "healthy soul", he claimed. It should be "uplifting", "noble", and "idealistic". He considered certain themes such as the family, everday work, mythology, rural life and landscapes, the perfected human body, or the heroic soldier to be subjects worthy of art. His insistence on what he considered "normal" and "healthy" attributes obviously conflicted with the emerging schools of modern art - Impressionism, Expressionism, Cubism, Dadasim, etc. He claimed these "terrible aberrations" were produced by scribbblers, canvas scrawlers, mental defectives or cultural Neanderthals." (from www.pzg.biz/hitler_ the_artist.htm)

Contrary to the belief that Hitler was uptight about things such as nudity, he allowed painters and sculptors to produce both male and female nudes. Male nudes were depicted as responsible, heroic and powerful while females were neat, clean, and full breasted while having a flat belly, long-muscled thighs, and slim shanks. They were sometimes depicted as Nordic, perhaps because many people prefer the natural beauty of Nordics, but were sometimes brunette as well. It should be noted that contrary to historical propaganda, Germany is not a Nordic nation but a predominately Alpine one, though it has a small Nordic minority, and this has been the case for several centuries. It is therefore most probable that the artists and people were praising an ideal in the depiction of their minority population rather than positing a notion of national superiority in this image.
(Hitler historical museum)

He had a small art station trunk (kinda like laptop for art) such as this.

In his early years, when he was orphaned, he was forced to make postcards such as this to live.

But his real interest was architectural design.

This is an example of documents issued during the Third Reich (1933-1945) to every genuine Hitler drawings, it is believed that during his lifetime, he drew about 4000 paintings and drawings.

Hitler drew and painted variey of objects, only genre missing from his porfolio are fully colored portraits.

This is a drawing of Eva Braun. Eva was Hitler's wife for one day during the seige of Berlin by the Soviet forces. Hitler killed himself in 1945.

So the question is, has Hitler's art influenced the world?

the answer is simply, No , but however, from his art, we can trace his life journeys and maybe figure out what made this aspiring artist to become the Second Antichrist, who made it possible for the world to have the definition of the word "holocaust".

(I bet one of the artist in this site will become a dictator at one point of their life)

anyhow...
Please share your pictures  , my errors, and your updates on Hitler's profile.

When we were studying WWII this past year our class got onto the subject of Hitler's artistic background. Imagine if he had been accepted to the academy in Vienna. History most likely would have been so different compared with what we know today. (Reason #1 why parents and teachers should encourage their children to improve their ablilites through a benificial subject rather that crush their dreams and cause them to dirrect their own energies towards something that might end up to be disasterous.) Although his techniqual drawings and architectual images were so beautiful, his portraits weren't the best. After learning that, I was kind of creeped out knowing that I can't draw people, yet I'm thinking about studying architecture, and I'd be crushed if I was rejected from the art school to which I'm applying. ...and my initials are AH and I'm part German. Creepy.

I tried to get myself in the same university he wanted.. I visited the University in Vienna for more than a year (not that one for art, because I failed the entering exam... whoops?) and I know its hard there.. but well yeah, you could say the WWII is the fault of this university. I really wondered about the fact that so many people don't even know he came from austria.. well, for a few peeps also Mozart comes from Germany.. ACK!

Wow, this thread is a coincidence . . . on Friday in art class I was flipping through an art book, and the heading, "Hitler, a Mediocre Artst" caught my eye. I showed it to my art teacher and she was like, "Oh, yeah he was an art student." Lol I was like WTF?!?

The book also talked about how he got all pissy about modern artists, saying their work sucked and throwing them in jail . . .

You could say that the fate of Germany was sealed when Hitler decided to become a painter at age 12 (1901). Because of not going to the Technik (like a technical high school) and dropping out of Realschule (public high school) he couldn't enter the architecture school.
Ha I didn't need wikipedia for that!.... peerhaps gloating over my knowledge of Hitler isn't so good.... Is it a bad thing to have read Mein Kampf? It starts to get very boring half way through, he just starts rambling about "Jewry" and that they made him physically ill. crazy smart+plain ol' crazy = Hitler On another note he was called Adi as a child, I've always thought that was interesting.

(don't go reporting me as some neo-nazi, I'm a ametuer historian and have been writing a book on WWII Germany)

I didn't want to just summarize what he was without a semi-reputable source. I didn't write anything, just texts straight out of two sources, then I saved model images to my photobucket and put them out chronologically, that's what I do.

I'm not exactly sure why I went into this thread. The mere thought of Hitler sends chills up and down my spine. It's interesting that he was an artist...that's as far as I'm going to go here.

*fights to keep her big, Jewish mouth shut.*

His cityscapes were superb. :0 But his portraits sucked ass (from what I see).

All his art save for the drawings of people were excellent. Imagine. They should have just accepted him into that art college. I know the ones around here would accept him, but tell him to work a little more on figure study. XD

A communist dictator? :0

I knew he was an artist, but I hadn't ever really gotten into that. There are more important things to research instead of a guy that killed millions of people for their beliefs and looks and preferences. I'm currently reading the book Night by Elie Weisel, who was one of the millions of Jews that were deported and sent to concentration camps, he escaped death at Babi Yar, but we're not going to get into all of that...

Anyway, back on topic.
Hilter could have used some major work on his portraits, and some of his shading techniques bug me, it looks more like he smudged with his finger or a shading stick, especially on the portrait of his creeped-out-one-day-wife.
He was a decent painter, but I'm not a big fan of water colours. His archetecture was nice, though; I suppose I'm on of many that agree with Paula Hilter on the idea that he should have been an architect.

Perhaps history really would have been drastictly different if he had gotten into that school. I hope the people there really smacked themselves a good one.
But then, it wouldn't be surprising if someone else took up that fight.

Overall.

Hilter was not a spectaular artist. Very mediocre. But what else can be said of that twisted piece of crap? It's a pitty he himself wasn't thrown into the fire.

[Isn't it ironic? Hilter killed himself. And Mengel drowned while swimming at the age of 86. Hopefully hell treats them worse.]
