Looks like Microsoft are the only company that weren't on LSD when designing the controllers.

It's..original.

We can give it that.

Nintendo never fails, so I have hopes for this. Smile

I think Nintendo do consistantly fail (in the popularity sense) but... this certainly is weird. I don't really like it, but it'd maybe grow on me. It should make for some originality anyway.

Well, they never fail in making good products, popularity is a whole nother story.

But, we know that Sony and Microsoft are probably going to make knockoffs from this anyway.

Don't believe everything you see. Image URL's hardly look like anything newsworthy:

It's not about believing everything you see. That's an officially confirmed pad.

Okay, but if you want to look credible, at least back yourself up with OFFICIAL news releases, not just random pictures.

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1509691/2...?headlines=true
On Friday morning in Japan, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata kicked off this year's Tokyo Game Show by unveiling a white prototype Revolution controller that looks more like a TV remote than a gaming device. In a break from 20 years of hardware designs, it's designed to be used with just one hand.
lol, well with them being official pictures, just uploaded onto a little used but reliable site (the guy on there, Zero Beat, knows a ridiculous amount about games btw) and that accurate news, as well as this post coming together with the Tokyo Games Show I'd have thought it was pretty ok on its own.

Ah well... I think it looks pretty daft. They've completely taken the fat lazy Americans (present company excluded, naturally) out of the market... how can they be doing things that physically demanding?

And of course it's a prototype, that just means it's not a useable sellable controller... in that the Revolution won't be released for a long time. It doesn't mean that's not the design.

looks like too much work to adapt to playing with one hand. Some people may say "wtf? you lazy ass! TRY and adapt!". But, why even try? how worth it is it to try? Especially when PS3 is coming? And motion censors? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

anyway, it looks real pretty Smile

I meant more in the context of sites that OTHER people consider credible.

http://news.google.com/news?q=Nintendo%20R...ial&sa=N&tab=wn

http://cube.ign.com/articles/651/651275p1.html
For months, years even, we've been hearing Nintendo reiterate that it does not want to be part of the same battle that Sony and Microsoft are deeply entrenched in. However, with a system like GameCube, the comparisons are inevitable. With Revolution and its one-of-a-kind approach to the controller, drawing these parallels just became a lot more difficult. This was an important message from Nintendo in our meeting. It wants to explore uncharted waters, be a blue ocean company, and not find itself sailing the bloody waters where the competition resides.

Demo 8: First Person Shooting
We held [the analog control stick] in our left hand to control the forwards, backwards, and side-strafing motions, as well as having access to triggers in back for scanning; meanwhile, the right hand used the main Revolution remote control to behave just like a mouse on a personal computer. It was a very natural application and felt pretty smooth, but since it wasn't a polished game it did feel a bit awkward at times, making us wonder what kind of things a developer could do to calibrate these kinds of controls for users. Nonetheless, the potential is absolutely huge for the FPS genre. If Nintendo can execute on that potential, Revolution could easily become the ultimate platform for shooters.

It's easy to believe that third parties could be alienated by this device. However, the good news is that Nintendo has thought of that potential drawback and taken measures to address it. The Big N has developed a conventional controller shell that, according to executives, looks more like a Wave Bird. The "pointer" remote can be inserted into this shell so that more traditional games can be enjoyed as they always have. Obviously, it will be this shell that enables players to experience Super NES and N64 games on the platform. The even better news is that because the sensory functionality of the device remains operational even when it's in the shell, games like Madden could actually be expanded. Imagine, for instance, having access to all of the controls of a standard controller plus 3D movement options. Icon passing just got a whole lot easier.
"Know"? Sorry, that's not good enough. Suspect, fear, anticipate, perhaps... but the future remains to be proven.

I think it looks like a sex toy <_<

As much as a nintendo whore I am, I'd have to agree with James. With the sony fan-boys pushing anti-nintendo propaganda everywhere and limited 3rd party publishing, they pretty much screwed themselves with the gamecube (or the revolution controller, tee-hee). I really wish they would become a 3rd party publisher, or join with microsoft so i'd still have my precious DS and GBA.

I know some of you have seen the new Rev controller, which consists of a remote-like device and a separate joystick-esque piece. But here's something to keep in mind if you don't like this layout...

There is a shell-like add-on to make it a more conventional-style controller! Best of all, it'll still respond to the gyro feature! This is perfect for third-parties who don't quite want to use its full features. If they want to make a regular game without the gyro or other functions, it's possible! This is the PERFECT! Very Happy

Now keep in mind this picture is not the official thing. It'll probably look much different in the final version, but it should be something similar to this. Slip the pieces into the shell, and...BAM! New controller! That way, nobody's ever bored. Razz

There will be add-ons to make it a more conventional controller as well. Check my topic for a mock-up picture of the shell-like add-on.
