Actually, I'd rather we keep the controller discussion inside one thread, not two.

*experiments with "Merge Topic" function*

There ... a little rough around the edges though.

Just for a bit of outside opinion, there are a lot of people outside the hardcore boards that are pretty excited for this thing. The extremely loyal to PS or Xbox may hate it, but everyone else likes it.

"Man, it is motherfucking on! Will it outsell, or even compete with xbox360 and ps3? Not at all, but it will own with EVERYONE else that isn't an 16-26 yo male. I am beyond hyped to play games a new way"

Hmm... quote city :D

QUOTE (user discussion on the Eatpoo forum thread)
When I first saw the crontroller i was worried, but then I read an article explaing all the functions and demos they had, along with developers like EA sayng they are excited by it. EA even mentiond that their sports games could totaly benifit from this controller, and It looks like it would be awesom for FPS games, The IGN editors said that playing metroid prime with it was amazing. If they can do with this on a larger scale of what DS did, then I think it wil be good.

* * * * *

Remember when you would give your friend crap abouth moving the controller when playing mario brothers, as if it was going to help them jump? Now imagine it actually working :blink:

* * * * *

Rev is making it cheap for the consumer and the developer, making for faster production cycles, and smaller dev teams. Which is why gameboy has like a bazillion games.

* * * * *

reguardless of what place they come in I doubt [Nintendo] will fail, they are the only company makeing full profit of their system, Actually they have made more money the teh xbox and ps2 combined just for the fact those 2 companies sell their systems at a loss. In the last year or 2 sony started making a profit, MS is still eating money on the xbox.

* * * * *

Peter Molyneux (creator of fable, and black & White) said he loves the controller. Sega said they are eager to work on it. Beyond that konami, capcom and a bunch of developers are already making games for it. lets see if they pull through. The reason not much has been said about 3rd party support is cause they were all under NDA and couldnt talk, so expect to hear game anouncements soon.

DS was the same, no one thought it would have games, but now there are tons coming out.
QUOTE (http://www.revo-europe.com/news.php?nid=8247)
Speaking to Eurogamer, [Nintendo Europe's senior marketing director] talked about how the new Revolution controller and "nunchuk" add-on will revolutionise gaming.

Asked why there was no software shown, he replied: "We went to great pains not to show the software today because we didn't want to detract from what we are trying to show. We're talking about a fundamental change to how we see games and how we play games, and we didn't want to get hung up on polygon counts and so on."
QUOTE (http://cube.ign.com/articles/651/651224p1.html)

Action and Platform Games
... Using the left-hand unit's trigger, players could be able to lock on to enemies, which would fix the camera and transform the pointer into a free-form sword controller.  Move the controller forward to stab, move it across to slash, slice, and parry -- all the while moving our hero with the left analog stick around his enemies and leaping about using the A button.
QUOTE (IGN.com article)
For months, years even, we've been hearing Nintendo reiterate that it does not want to be part of the same battle that Sony and Microsoft are deeply entrenched in. However, with a system like GameCube, the comparisons are inevitable. With Revolution and its one-of-a-kind approach to the controller, drawing these parallels just became a lot more difficult. This was an important message from Nintendo in our meeting. It wants to explore uncharted waters, be a blue ocean company, and not find itself sailing the bloody waters where the competition resides.
That also means willing to go it alone if no one else follows.

Sony vs. Microsoft is the Atlantic Ocean of the videogame industry... wide an stormy.

That would make Nintendo comparable to Magellan... setting sail on an even wider, and as-yet unexplored Pacific.

Or, in simpler terms, at the industry poker game:

Microsoft: "We open with our 3-core XBox 360"

Sony: "We'll see that and raise you SEVEN cores with our PS3!"

Nintendo: "Scrub that, who wants to play Craps?"

Ok, I take back the thing I said about them failing. If they pull it off right, then this could work really well. Like if in the next-next legend of zelda, you could control Link's sword or some cool gimmicky thing like that.

Also, the home button on the controller, could this mean the Revolution has a hard drive or a desktop where you can select icons of NES games you've downloaded?

I don't like that control It looks awkward to hold for an extended Time and the buttons are so far apart. Besides think of how much bateries the thing will eat It it sends and recieves signal and uses a baterie powered vibration feature, I think I'll stick with the good old Duelshock Anilog 2

I'm actually really excited, Nintendo has never let me down with new innovations on products.

And, even if I dont like it, I'm sure it'll have alternative purposes. Razz

I hope you can switch the hands around... The controls are backwards as it is being held in that picture. As long as the controls are relatively the same, I won't care. I hope it vibrates...something wireless and vibrating that big..hmmmm.. I could find a lot of uses for that. Razz

The nunchucku configuration is not backwards if you really think about it...

- ANY symmetrical one-handed design (TV remote, standard PC mouse, etc.) is inherently usable by either hand.
- The left analog stick is already the primary directional input on a standard controller (the nunchuku addon just separates it from the rest of the unit). In a typical shooter, for example, your LEFT hand controls movement while your RIGHT hand controls view/aiming. The nunchuku configuration can work in FPS the same way - left hand controls movement (analog stick), right hand controls aiming (just point and shoot).

- Most people pick up a PC mouse or TV remote with their right hand anyway.
I hope it vibrates...
Sick dog. Razz But I do believe vibration has been confirmed as a standard feature.

According to various articles, Microsoft's J. Allard doesn't believe the Revo controller will work in sports or racing titles. IMHO, he's just not thinking outside the (X-) box. The previous IGN article already described how the controller could be used in sports and racing titles, and I don't see a problem.

I do.

I don't wanna race using 2 seprit remote parts,

I prefer to have 1 ridged remote held by both hands, Xbox PS2,
unless its a stering wheel system.

Okay, then remove the analog stick add-on, hold the remote controller like an old NES pad, use the triggers for gas/brake, and tilt the entire controller the way you would as if it were a steering wheel. What problem?

If the batteries get weak then, as with any wireless controller, you need to swap in a fresh set soon as you can. Preferably when you turn on the machine.

better get Nickle cadmiums. cause that things gonna be hungry with all those features, The vibration motor will take a lot out of it, It did on the old remotes with rumble.

Right, you can't truly evaluate it until you've tried it.

Recall that in regards to the Wind Waker, Mr. Miyamoto was quoted as saying something like "play it first"... the new controller sounds like the same kind of thing. It's a risk, but a good risk, and you can't pass a real verdict on it until you've actually experienced it.

That's why I liked the IGN hands-on report the best. They played the proof-of-concept demos (one of which used Metroid Prime 2 to demonstrate how it could work for a shooter), they speculated about how it might work in each of the game genres.

That's a Gamecube controller? Whoa.....way more possible chance to lose your controller under the couch.... It looks really difficult to use too. But as everyone is saying, you can't evaluate until you try it. But it's not like I'll ever have the money to try it....But I digress....(even though this is the end of my post)
