I've noticed that more and more lately girls have been using the word "rape" to express when they think a guy is hot.
Like "OMG! I would SO rape him!" or "I just wanna tie him down and rape him!" or even just " *rapes him* "
Lately it's been on dA & FAC that I've seen.
I'm not asking people to delete comments like this or anything like that (not *that* kind of post), I've just noticed it and can't imagine why the heck this phrase would be used at all let alone so much.
Whoever started this little trend needs to be slapped across the face.
It's not funny. It's not clever. It's not witty. And it's downright not cool.
This is just disturbing.
Has anyone else been noticing this or better yet, anyone else think it's just plain messed up? |

Yeah I've noticed it too. And I am guilty of making comments like that to some guy FAC members here. :(
You do have a point. Rape isn't funny. A very close friend of mine..well she had something really bad happen to her and she still isn't like totally recovered from it. I guess I forgot about it. She was really devestated though. Still is. Its a very emotionally disturbing act.
But really, other words that have serious meanings have been thrown around like that too. You know, people are always saying "OMG! I'm like going to kill you for that!" Killing is just as serious as raping and yet people have been using that word lightly for years. Rape is just like the new word to use I guess. :/ Pretty soon we'll be using sodomize instead of rape. You watch. _________________ Vaccum cleaners may look fun, but are deadly sex toys. as are certain vegetables like, terri schiavo -Powtaz |

I've noticed it. I've used it once or twice when saying that I would rape Tommy. I've never used it for a girl tho. Some of my friends use it, doesn't bother me because I'm not a female. _________________ "edit : i luv james" - Layzcarter |

That's not cool at all. :/ It's a pretty serious matter, so it's not a good thing to use that word so lightly. It's disrespectful to rape victims... _________________

..They wouldn't be victims if they weren't raped.
Edit: I think I started saying rape and then I moved onto bone..
Then everyone started using rape and bone..
Not saying I'm the trend setter.. far from it.. but it's all in the timing?
I think it's fine to use, to be honest. Like when people stress about the word see you en tee - cunt.
If the person truly takes offense, then the person in the wrong could at the most apologise... Otherwise.. it's just a word in my book. There's far worse things to say. |

I don't like it.
I'm not out to censor anything, but I don't see it as an act to joke about or take lightly.
It's a really sensative subject and doesn't project a very good image... |

Meh. It was kinda funny before it was so horribly overused. Like fag. Now it's attached to everything as just an alternative for "loser", which I actually like. Taking the power out of the words is a good thing (Gray's a cunt ).
Buuuut, there's a difference between profanity and actions. The word rape doesn't mean anything on its own, just the action. Which isn't funny, but I don't mind it in the context peopl use it in. "Omg he's hot! I wanna have sex with him!" just doesn't have the same ring to it.
I think it initially caught on because of the reality that all the people they use it on would never ever consider screwing them. Thus "he's so hot I'm gonna forcibly do him!!!" It isn't funny, but...I don't mind it.
Then again, I'm really not offended by anything people say, so. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

i as gray just see it as a word... and don't take the slightest bit of offense when someone says it to me (james.wub) even though someone very very close to me has been raped before...

No, it's more like "OMG he's hot I wanna forcibly have sex with him!" -- ignoring whether said character would want to engage in it themselves, particularly if said character would be against it. Definition of "rape". <_<
And also a good definition for "otaku" _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

But that's what I meant, Strata. Saying it without using the word or definition of rape, just saying "I want to have sex with him" doesn't sound the same or as good as "he's so hot I wanna force him to have sex with me"/"*rapes him*".

I dunno, maybe the word "rape" has worse connatation than "kill" since rape victims are alive and we feel for them.
"I wanna rape her" sounds more serious than "I wanna kill her" _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

I'm not all uptight when it comes to the word rape and such. But I've noticed it and I think it's pretty stupid. I've mentioned it once before to a few people, but it seems I was ignored. _________________ |
this thread kinda cuts me down
cut me down this did
noooooooo. no no.
I dont like it but I'm not posting about it so everyone can rally up against those who say it or anything o.o like I said in my first post, I'm not looking to censor anything.
Forums are for discussing T_T and we're discussing.
I don't like it. It seems like a really sick thing to use in a sentence. And actually the "kill" thing is getting kids suspended/expelled from a lot of schools. People take it a little more seriously since that Columbine thing (my youngest brother, who I actually am fairly cautious of, was almost expelled for it)
There are also some weird kids out there o.o
Some that take things a little more litterally than one should. What you say as a joke (which is only obvious because what you're saying is so extreme it couldn't POSSIBLY be sincere) might be something they actually do because you said it would be cool.
But it's also a sensative subject.
Going back to the "kill" thing; lots of people die, so it's a little hard to associate with that specifically. but if someone "joked" about stabbing someone they were mad at or something, and your dad/brother/girlfriend or the like was stabbed to death, that would hit pretty close to home.
Where as "rape" is a bit more general, but just as (if not more so) touchy.
Both are crimes of violence, but one seems to leave a much deeper scar in victims and friends/family of them (and for the friends/family of the attacker as well in most cases)
All around, it's just messed up. |

yeah, but i just wanted to show how harmless it could be to the two people (me and him). We would never mean to offend anyone that way. And like i said, I would never say that to a girl. I'd never do that to a girl either. But it's all in good fun. But hey, atleast someone addressed the issue, now we all know to go a little lighter on it. Tho, i will still say it, because i am not forcing harm on to anyone. People will just have to take it as they want to. Like i said, I mean no harm _________________ "edit : i luv james" - Layzcarter |

Ick, another forum where I go to...using the word rape (and other related words/brief descriptions...) is pretty common. >.<;;; They're nice people but it's turned into a huge trend over there...sadly. Luckily, though, rape fetishes are not mainstream...God forbid.
Just look at this awful thing and you'll know what I mean:

i just hope this sort of thing will die away eventually. _________________ Makes you wonder, doesn't it? |

I think it all comes down to how well you know the person the word is applied to. Some people dont care and its fine. Someone else however might be horribly offended.
I dont like the phrase, but Im not going to complain if somebody uses it, just so long as they get the hint if somebody lets them know its not funny.
