I'm thinking about taking an independent study for Art Tech. That means that instead of getting a study hall next quarter, I'll be able to take a second Art Tech class. :)
The problem is that I'm still new to Photoshop even after the first Art Tech course. I'm not sure what Photoshop is really capable of doing yet. Last year I was pretty creative when I illustrated Nine Inch Nails lyrics and made actual art on Photoshop. I would like to use that kind of creativity again only I am not sure how.
What kind of projects would you reccomend doing on Photoshop? Its a pretty advanced version so feel free to suggest anything. The only ideas I have come up with are pretty cliche and overused. I need something like far out yet managable for a beginner. :)
I would really appreciate some help with this. Thank you.

Paint a bug using photoshop. That's the first project my school's digital art program has you do. Bugs are simple because they have no hair or fur, which is a pain in the neck to color. Bugs, or scaled/hairless creatures, are simple and straight forward. You could also try flowers and other plants. Those are also fairly simple.
To get you used to photoshop, the ditial class has you take three photos and meld them together into something interesting. I took a picture of a woman on an innertube in the ocean and made the sky into Jupiter. Then I took the moon and layed it on top, sinking behind the water. It's simple, but really awesome looking. If they let you manipulate photos, that's a great way to get used to photoshop.
The clone brush and layers are your friends. Use them profusely. |

Since it's name is Photoshop, it's also about Photos...
When I started a CG course, our first project was to clean a photo, but well that wasn't easy, you need all the stuff Photoshop is able to do. The Photo was a Black and White one and it was full with scratches and empty edges..etc. so you need to learn painting at first, to fill the empty areas, so we learned how to paint and so that is looks like a photo, which is quite difficult if you never did it before, after that we learned how to remove scratches, how to give the whole BW Pic color, how to save, resize etc. I think we learned everything important just by making this one project. Well just a tip, because it always depends on the "user" what he/she wants to do exactly with Photoshop, I never wanted to pimp up or repair photos in Photoshop, but that's the way I learned how to use it ^_^ _________________ - hmm... did someone say "MUFFIN"? - |
