I'm in the NYC area, i listen to 92.3 K-Rock, it's great for music, but the mornings suck, it's all talk and no music but it's better than all that other s**t out there. Gotta love Howard Stern, lol. |

i'm in the NYC area, too, and sometimes i listen to k-rock.
i really like 89.5, Seaton Hall Radio, tho! they play a lot of underground anc college bands, as well as just good rock like nirvana. the dj's are pretty cool, too (lol no howard sterns, tho). the only problem is that sometimes (i think just mornings) the station plays a spanish show.... also, not all areas get it (hehe my room does, but my friends' dont).
i'm not really into the radio, tho- i'd rather listen to my music (i have so much music on my comp- i still havent listened to it all). and most of the time the radio just annoys me b/c it ruins songs by overplaying them or just plays music i dont like. _________________ i fought the war, but the war won |

I haaaate the radio with a passion. We have absolutely no stations around here (Oregon). In the summer, it's odd because a local "rock" station plays 3 hours of Howard Stern from 3-6am, but then at 6, it starts over and plays from 6-10am. Wha-? But I stay up and listen from 3-6 most nights, er, mornings.
Other than that, there's an all 80s station I'll listen to every now and then. They have the "no repeat workday! You'll never hear the same song twice in one day!" However, you will hear the same songs every day. And if they swung from Def Leppard's balls anymore, it'd be a chick band. You can't listen for 20 minutes without hearing a Def Lep song. No offense to them, of course, but it pisses me off. Oh, and they're really bad about things like "It's an all hair band weekend!" then they follow that ad with Prince, Elton John, and Madonna. Not to mention the ad itself pissed me off "Remember Motley Crue, Winger, and Tesla? It's an all hair band weekend, all day today and tomorrow! Guys liked them because they rocked! Girls liked them because they had hot lead singers."
Oh yeah, because that's the only reason chicks like them... *sigh*
I hear there's a really great station in Portland that plays Motley and Gn'R and stuff all the time, but I'm on the wrong side of the airport for it to come in.
I listen to online stations, though. http://www.knac.com isn't bad (especially around noon)
But the BEST station is....mine!

ooo i just discovered internet radio a few weeks ago when i dowloaded itunes (before, i used musicmatch). it was so cool b/c on one station they were having an 80's rock weekend. and i like the alternative stations, too. i'll check out yours, fallen!
hehe i got my ipod, too, lasher (it's practically attached to me, it's kinda sad). his name is kurt brandon (for kurt cobain and brandon boyd). yes, i name everything... anyway, my mother is always yelling at me for having my headfones on, but i just turn it up. she's probly yelling at me now... o well
*raises the volume as the Hippos begin to play, "Paulina, you know this isn't me, I've been dishonest, now it's time to come clean...", and sings along*
(about 10-15 minutes later)
o wow that is sooo cool i really like your radio station, fallen! (all rite- Ramones are playing now). ooo i want one!! lol i know i have enough music for it. how did you make yours? sorry but i dont really know much about internet radio stations, i've just always thought it would be awesome to have my own station so i could share my amazing music with the world (hopefully some other people would think it's amazing, too). _________________ i fought the war, but the war won |

I've spent many hours perfecting my station. Here's how ya do it, but be prepared for putting a good amount of time into it before it's decent:
1. Get a yahoo account (if you already have one, ignore this step). That will be your ID for making the station
2. Register on Launch. It'll ask you to choose your favorite genres and a few artists
3. From there, choose the genres and sub-genres you like most. That's where it will pull music from, depending on how high you rate them.
4. After that, you're technically done, but to refine the playlist even more you can do two things. Either play your station and rate the song/artist/album as they play, or do a search for a specific artist. On their page, you can rate them as a whole, each album, and individual songs. The higher you rate something, the more likely it is to play.
They don't have everything on there, but they're getting more and more artists/albums all the time (copyright issues, they have to buy and negotiate rights). I found a lot of artists I didn't think they'd have (Accept, Hanoi Rocks, Shotgun Messiah, BulletBoys....). Go for it!
I've actually spent a lot of time banning artists from my station, too, because every now and then odd artists would end up playing. It's all in what genres and sub genres you pick. I had to go through and ban all the crappy nu metal, because it was technically included in the rock genre. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Yeah, i've messed around with the stations on iTune, but i prefer my iPod over everything. And my iPod, i always have it resting the in front pocket/pouch of my hoodie and the headphones under the hoodie coming out just ath te top, that way if i need to take the headphones out, i don't have to wrap them around it, and it's a little harder for someone to jsut grab it and start listening (people are always doing are asking to listen, pisses me off)
Not to mention how its hard to see i have it on and lsitening to it that way with my hair down, can't see i have the headphones in, lol. so good.
*walks of amd marries K-Rock* sorrt, i like mine best *hugs K-Rock* not anymore than my iPod though. lol |

that's pretty cool, fallen! ooo perhaps i'll try that....
lol my ipod stays in my hoodie, too lasher! (except when i have skool b/c those damn catholics wont let us wear our own sweatshirts- tho it's FREEZING. we can only wear the itchy, chokingly tight sweater). but yes my ipod rules over all, and people are always listening to it and getting their dirty hands all over the shiny surface! but i'm used to it by now- it's funnier when i bring my laptop to skool and i stay after, b/c suddenly everyone knows who i am and they all come over and start looking thru my music and then start fighting over which song to play. the things we endure for our music....
oooo i like your station, too, chris! so far it's been bad religion (who're very cool- i have Process of Belief), Blind Melon (that brought back memories...), and the Cure (awesome). eh the commercials are annoying tho its too bad about them.
o my god now it's flogging molly- i LOVE flogging molly.... ahh i shall stop typing and sway with the irish beat now.
ps sorry for the rambling. heh heh i talk too much _________________ i fought the war, but the war won |

That's because I'm too busy(lazy) to be banning tons of artists off of my station. _________________ "I've got a sticky Darodo!"

Yes, he does, because his theme song was by The Zeros for 20 years. The mighty purple ones. Kinda funny story how they even did it:
In the words of Sammy Serious: "We snuck upstairs where letterman was being taped and snuck through the guards we found some guy that we thought was stern and threw the envelope with the song in it and got thrown out of rockerfella plaza and went home. Wait i think me and Mr. insane went to the Scrap Bar For a While to act like rockstars after that but the song was on the air the next day and continued to be played for the next 20 years." (Full Thing...and pictures, wee! Check out the one at the bottom)
And hey! Since The Zeros were very glam and on my station...I win!
And there's far more artists rated than banned, Chrissy. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

No, but the Zeros are on MY station, and they were the Stern theme for 20 years, and since Stern is better than both of us, clearly having them gives ME the advantage. I win. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |
