There's just about as much bad rap as there is bad rock and good rap as there is good rock. Just gotta look past the crap they play on the TV and Radio.

Not to me. Talented perhaps, but I hate it all as much as I hate all disco all country all _____. Just don't dig the whole lack of music. Not a poetry fan, not a rhythmic poetry fan, which is basically what rap is. Reading poetry with a bit of background beat. Goody.

Just because they may not be commercial crap does not mean I have to be a fan.

Yes, but as they're judged on different standards, it all comes down to opinion. Which in the end is all the word "better" is. One's opinion. Thus whether or not either is perfect, misunderstood, overplayed, tired, or undiscovered is rather obsolete. It's a matter of which do you enjoy.

And we enjoy rock, not rap. The fact there are bad acts and good acts in both styles means little.

Yeah but I don't see how one can denounce an entire group of artists without listening to more than say (in the case of Rap) Jay Z and Eminem. I dunno. That's just me. I'd either choose both or neither.

Because the style annoys me and I don't enjoy it, regardless of the lyrics or particular person. It's like apples. I don't have to try every kind of apple, even though they all taste different, to know I just don't like them.

Yes you can. Go back and read what I said about the word "better". Better is all opinion. You like this more than that, thus this is "better" than that. I don't like apples but like oranges, thus to me...oranges are better than apples. (even if I don't like oranges, but for example's sake we'll pretend)

It's called an opinion.

Now the topic isn't, as far as I know, about which is more talented, skilled, technically more accomplished. Just which is "better". And since they're both judged on different criteria, it's one's personal decision which they enjoy more. "Better".

Yes, but in the context of THIS POLL, what the hell do you think it means? Without giving specific guidelines, all that's left to debate is opinion. Superior in your opinion. Superior can either be based on specific facts (this is safer than that) or one's reaction to those facts (this has more sugar in it, so this is better than that).

Really, Chrissy, have you ever managed to make me back down from anything? One would think after two years you'd get tired of it.

But it's fun. Superior isn't, by any means, an opinion, though. Superior is a higher level 'look down at the lessers and spit on their shoes' kind of thing. Which would explain the comment about the smart rap fans. :P

Superior itself is not an opinion, but what you feel is superior very well is. Are my examples going over your head here or something? This has more ___ than that. A fact. You like whatever that thing has more of. Thus in that way, TO YOU, this is superior to that. It has more, thus it is "better".

Now to get back to the original topic, rock has more guitar riffs (not saying rap doesn't have any or that all rock has them, note the word "more"). Rock is superior to rap in that area (that area=having the most). If you like guitar riffs, you might judge rock as "better" than rap because it's superior in that way. Count up the score of all the areas and you end up with which is superior to which TO YOU.

Like I've said at least three times already, it's IMPOSSIBLE for there to be a factual decision on which is better because both are judged on completely different technical aspects. But it's very possible to determine which is "better" in your opinion, which was what this topic was.

Until you had to pick another silly battle to play philosopher in.
