Avenged Sevenfold is fairly recent and while they like seem to be a bit on the emo side, they actually have talent. :o
I don't know much about them yet but so far I really like what I've heard in Bat Country. Their guitarist is really talented and looks a bit like Nikki Sixx. Looks wise, they could be like worse. Their sleeve tats look really nice and I seriously am loving this guitarist! (I'm watching their music video, Bat Country, as I type this.)
Has anybody else heard of them? They're pretty popular up here in the Northeast and for once I think I actually like a band thats liked by others too. _________________ Vaccum cleaners may look fun, but are deadly sex toys. as are certain vegetables like, terri schiavo -Powtaz |

Heard the name before. I think. Too many names with numbers in them recently.
Hmmm... not a whole lot to look at, and that thunder sound on their website is really pissing me off. Could be worse, kinda goes with Diary of a Madman, it's just not with the timing. Singer is creepy, but if the guitarist is the one with the fluffy hair, I'd hit it. Look like sh*tty emo kids, but I'll give the music page a listen. Diary just ended anyway.
Beast and the harlot - Kudos on the effort, I suppose. Very grand and epic opening. Reminds me of mid 80s Ozzy stuff. Guitarist has some skill. Decent melody, vocals could be better. Crappy middle part. I don't like long phrasing that wanders on forever with no point or pattern. And it sounds very generic.
Trashed and Scattered - Too fast and scream-ish. Sounds just like every other pop punk band that has played a quick bass line and riff and put a slow, wandering melody over it. The chorus is so much better, if the whole song was like that it'd be a huge improvement.
Chapter Four - Nice intro. Good to see musicians that can play more than two chords over and over. Really not a fan of this guy's vocals at all. Enunciate, bitch.
All the songs blend together. It's like they're writing to a formula. Which in a way, I suppose they are. Take fast metal, add screamed dark lyrics.
Meh. They've got the musical skill, which is impressive. Lacking in the creative and diversity departments. And they need to lose the emo look, doesn't fit their music. And on a related note, their website is very pretty to look at and decently easy to navigate, but there's too many flash bells and whistles. The sound effects and stuff.
On another related note of current bands, I really enjoyed Silvertide when I saw them open for the Crue. A song should play automatically, I think you'll like them if you haven't heard them already. The music is great, and the singer has this oldschool vibe in his voice. The guitarist is amazing, I was so impressed watching him solo. Real natural performers, the singer and guitarist went down the aisles, and fun to watch. Songs to check out on the media page: California Rain, Blue Jeans, Devil's Daughter, Mary Jane, basically anything.
Doesn't hurt that the guitarist, Nick, is hot as hell. The one with the "high voltage" ink. I'd definitely pay to see just them. So good.
Oh, and watch the videos. Especially Ain't Comin' Home. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Double post!!!
FALLEN DOUBLE POSTED!
Ahem.. Yeah I like "The Streets" and "Eternal Rest" is by far my favourite. My sister told me about these about 2 months ago but I never really took an interest and still haven't. Only that song interests me, Eternal Rest.. Maybe thier next album will be better. Here's hoping. |

FAC hiccup'ed. Ten minutes later, stupid thing. But I'm special and can delete them.
Still say this band is incredibly generic. Their website pisses me off like very few can. It's cute when you first get to it, but browsing around just makes me want to leave. The sounds are irritating, and the fact every page has to load is annoying.
They're like the bastard children of nu-metal, emo, and halloween. They aren't nu-punk terrible, but I'm not even seeing much in their technical skill aside from competency. Every song sounds identical, so it's like they can do one thing and do it well.
Unless you're Iron Maiden or Ozzy, all those skulls and references to "evil" just look like the losers from high school who walked around in trench coats reading Poe and talking about how much they love the "dark arts", which they read about on geocities sites while eating easy mac.
Oh hell. I just saw their stage names. I guess I can't criticize them too much when I adore Nasty Suicide and Razzle from Hanoi, but... M.Shadows? Synyster Gates (which commits the ultimate sin from the 80s, where every i was replaced with a y to make a name "unique" ie really really gay)? Zachy Vengeance, Johnny Christ, and the Rev?
This is the problem. If you're gonna be a "spooky" band, you gotta follow through. You can't be cute about it. You didn't see Ozzy or Iron Maiden naming themselves "Bobby Skeleton" and "Bloody Corpse". Closest you come is Bruce Dickinson sounding like pedophilia. It just makes the whole thing funny, like a big joke (as evidenced by their videos, so I'm sure some is on purpose), but....their music isn't funny. You can get away with funny videos and names if your music is funny. As much as I hate it, the song "1985" is funny and has a funny video.
Their music isn't funny, their website is "spooky", and they certainly don't have amusing images like Peppermint Creeps, so it just makes their music a novelty.
Bleh.
However, I would still hit this one. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Whoever that guy is, he's the reason why I got into Avenged Sevenfold. He just reminds me of like an emo Nikki Sixx. Its hot.
I wasn't really impressed with the frontman either. Even in the music video for Bat Country, he isn't like that great of a singer and he doesn't move around much to look interesting.
The guitarist (the Nikki Sixx guy) is what really impressed me. He actually sounds like he knows how to play and I guess for me, he shines above like the mundane lyrics and corny evil persona. I'd buy their CD just to listen to him or I can save myself the twenty bucks and just download like one or two songs from them and get my fix of them.
Silvertide..that actually sounds really familiar.
Oh! Its on the wallpaper of a friend of mine. He's the one who like introduced me to Avenged Sevenfold, he's like a big fan of Silvertide and AS. His taste could be worse. ;)
But if their guitarist wasn't so damn hot, I probably wouldn't even be like raving about this band right now. I simply must find out which of those corny names is his. _________________ Vaccum cleaners may look fun, but are deadly sex toys. as are certain vegetables like, terri schiavo -Powtaz |

AS would be lucky to lick Silvertide's boots. Your friend should have recommended them instead, especially considering how fond you are of Aerosmith and such. Silvertide are far more classic rock than AS.
I might even buy their CD. Them and Crash Kelly will make up my tiny contemporary collection.
Like...Blue Jeans and California Rain. Such great songs. If you like the guitarist in AS, check out the solo in Ain't Comin' Home. The music video for it is in the media section on the website. Nick will blow you away. Plus, Nick Perri. Can't argue with that name.
There was one AS song I didn't entirely hate, but now I don't remember which one it was. Once I realized all the rest were crappier versions of it, I lost interest and promptly forgot what any of them were called.
They really need to lose that frontman, though. Terrible.
