Because I am obsessed with the living dead, and believe I know more than a good bit about them, I am prepared to answer YOUR questions, as well as de-bunk common misconceptions and/or myths about the undead with hard and proven fact.
So please, ask away. All questions are welcome. I will answer them in the order I recieve them. _________________

Good questions Drake. Let's take a stab at it.
1. Do they get hunger pains?
The answer to this is, of course, no. Zombies do not get hunger pains. Technically, zombies do not even need to eat. And any flesh that is consumed by a zombie does no good to it at all. Since all but the most rudimentary body functions no longer exist, it stands to reason that the gastro intestinal system no longer would hold any use to the zombie. In fact, autopsy proves that any flesh consumed by the zombie simply sits in the stomach, undigested. This is why many older zombies have bloated bellies; there stomach overflowing from human flesh.
2. does there restpitory system still work? (do they still require to breath oxygen?)
Well, technically the respiratory system of a zombie does still work, but a zombie has no need for oxygen. The main function of a respiratory system in its zombified state is to allow the ghoul with a primitive means of communication, in the form of its signature moan. This moan is what alerts other zombies when a potential human victim is in the area. The creature, of course, is not aware that it is communicating with its fellow zombies, this reaction being completely involuntary, much like one pulling away when touching a burning ember. They do it purely by instinct.
As for needing to breath, it does not. A zombie cannot drown, and reports have shown they can survive underwater for years on end.
3. Does their heart still beat?
No. Once a person has become a zombie, the heart looses all function. A zombie has no need for a heartbeat, as all blood has since congealed in the veins. This is true for most other bodily fluids as well. Thankfully, the lack of fluid mass prevents easy transmission of the zombie virus. Were this not the case, hand-to-hand combat would be all but impossible, as one would almost be certainly splattered with blood and/or other fluids during a fight. _________________
How can the Dead move when they do not have working systems (cos they're dead)?
Not true. Though dead, a zombie will retain many of its bodily functions. This is due mainly to how the virus that causes zombism, Solanum, works, killing the body while adapting and refunctioning the brain. What results is a human with no life signs. No heartbeat, no need for oxygen. The body, technically, is dead. This means it will slowly decay. However, the brain is still alive and functioning, though its thought processes are based solely on its most primal of needs, hunger. This is the reason that zombies seek out living organisms for consumption. The brain, therefore, will still send electrical impulses to the muscular system. However, one can see that the muscles, as well as the rest of the body, are badly damaged, as seen in the creatures shuffling gait and poor agility. I hope this answers your question. _________________
Have you stopped masturbating at the thought of zombies?
A good question, Brian. Masturbation, the primal need to satisfy one's sexual urges through self stimulation, is, for me, reserved for those times I feel sexually aroused. This could be while watching pornography, thinking about that chick in my 2-D design class, or reading your user profile. However, while I do enjoy zombies, they are not something that gets me "hot and bothered" as you could say. I think the rotted flesh and festering wounds would be reason enough, but if you wanted to delve deeper, the horrendous violence caused by these creatures is yet another turn-off. So, no, I do not masturbate to zombies. And my friend, you can't stop what doesn't start. _________________
4. Would removal of the head be of any effect? (ie chop/slashing their head off in combat)
Yes. In fact, this is the ONLY way to permanently put a zombie down (though severing their spinal cord or destroying limbs will slow it). Since the brain is where the virus resides, and since it is the only truly functioning organ in the body, destroying it should be your top priority when dealing with a zombie. Note that a severed head should still be considered dangerous, as the brain itself is still intact and the head can, therefore, still bite.
5. Would a zombie be able to operate a computer? (or other misc electronic items)
Haha, no. A zombie can barely even negotiate stairs or steep inclines, let alone operate devices or machinery. A zombies brain is in a serious state of retardation, and can only support the most basic of functions, like movement.
6. Do they get supernatural ability? (ex. greater strength?)
A zombie's strength in death is proportionate to its strength in life. Therefore, if you were a 90 lb shrimp in life, your zombie state would fare little better. On the flip side, a zombified body builder would be a challenge to recon with should you find yourself fending it off in close quarters. Also of note: A zombie's speed is greatly reduced from that of a living human, and they are confined to a shuffling gait.
However, zombies do have excellent hearing, a very accurate sense of smell and more than adequate sight. Also, their entire lack of physical sensation makes them rather impervious to pain.
7. Can they see in the dark? or can they see at all?
As I mentioned above, a zombie does indeed have more than adequate sight. They can spot prey at distances comparable to a human, though it is still up for debate as to whether they can distinguish a human from one of there own. One theory is that the movements of a human are different than that of a zombie, and therefore stand out to a zombie's eye. It has also been suggested that they possess night vision, which would explain there skill at nocturnal hunting.
8. finally can they be other animals? (becides human zombies? dogs, etc)
No. Though zombies are known to attack and consume anything they can get their rotted hands on, the virus Solanum is only known to affect humans, though it is still unknown as to why. Therefore, one does not need to worry about other animals becoming zombies (and zombie humans are bad enough). _________________
Is there a certain way to repell Zombies?
Other than an actual barricade, there is no real way of keeping a zombie at bay. Once you have been sighted, it will pursue you tirelessly until either you or it is dead. That is why it is imperative to kill a zombie immediately, less it give you position away to others near by. What can start as a single zombie can quickly turn into a multitude of shambling undead.
Are they adept at opening doors and climbing ladders?
Not in the slightest. A zombie's physical abilities are vastly limited, and it lacks both the cognitive capacity and dexterity needed to climb ladders, open doors, or perform other complicated (and not so complicated) tasks. Coincidentally, one of the best defenses against a mass of zombies is simply destroying the staircase. Once done, you can rest easy on the second floor, far out of reach from the undead. At this point, if you have any firearms, you can then simply dispatch them at your leisure.
Can they hide under beds?
Not intentionally. Unless a person succumbed to the bites of a zombie and then reanimated while under a bed, it is unlikely you will find one there. Furthermore, zombies have little understanding of hiding, ambushes, or stealth of any means. A zombie, in its natural state, will simply wander around aimlessly until it senses prey. Once that has happened, it will move toward it's target until it has either caught it or has been dispatched. _________________
Can Zombies get through windows, flywire, ect.?
Theoretically? Yes. Though a zombie may not realize that climbing through a window could be its best course of action to get at the people inside, some ghouls have been known to do so. This threat is multiplied drastically when dealing with a large number of undead, the mass of bodies pressing against the walls of the structure maker the likelihood of un undead finding its way through a window all the more possible. This is why the boarding of windows should be a top priority when setting up a proper defense. However, don't forget to leave a proper slit to fire through.
Can Zombies work together as a team?
In the traditional sense? No. Zombies have no social organization to speak of. There is no hierarchy, no chain of command, no objectives. A horde of undead is simply that, a mass of individuals. If several hundred zombies should all converge on a single location, it is because each one is drawn by its own instinct. They are not aware of each other, and treat one another as they would treat an inanimate object. In fact, the only social communication on any level that they have is their moan, which is unintentional and does little more than attract other zombies to its source.
Can Zombies learn how to operate firearms or use weapons?
I would think that my answers thus far would make this seem obvious. Let me reiterate: Zombies cannot perform complex tasks. Nor can they learn. All attempts to train zombies (such as the Japanese during WWII) have been met with failure. A zombie is just that, an unthinking automaton that performs the tasks that have been hardwired into its brain by instinct alone. It can do nothing else. _________________
can zombies still ejaculate?
No. As I said earlier, all blood and other fluids in a zombie have congealed, making it impossible for a zombie to get an erection, let alone ejaculate semen. Furthermore, a zombie has no sense of touch, nor sexual stimuli. It reproduces through means of viral transmittance only, usually through a bite or other wound. _________________

Again, no. A zombie has no emotion. It does not get angry or suffer from moral. You can't scare a zombie. A zombie feels no sexual stimulation. A zombie feels nothing at all. _________________

True, but you must take into account that that movie is just that: Hollywood make-believe. A real-to-life zombie has no emotions. Also, any contrived emotion one may perceive (perhaps from the way a zombie may bare its teeth in a mock snarl as it prepares to bite a victim) is an illusion. _________________
Where did the idea of zombies originate from?
Zombies do not have one distinct origin. Almost every culture all throughout history has its own legends, beliefs, and superstitions about the walking dead. During Biblical and Medieval times especially, zombies were believed to be the armies of Satan. The word "zombie" itself comes from the practices of voodoo, specifically the Kimbundu word "nzumbe", where the practitioner would use ritual and other forms to call forth the living dead. A powder (called zombie powder, which is in fact a powerful neurotoxin) was also used to turn a human into a "zombie". In actuality it placed the person into a deep state of hibernation where they were in fact believed to be dead. The unfortunate people would then awaken (often in their coffins). The side effect of this was considerable brain damage, bringing on a very convincing zombie-like effect. _________________

Hehehe. Very holiday appropriate Will. ^_^
How does a human become infected by a zombie? Does a simple touch do the job or does a person have to be bitten, scratched, etc?
What is the best way to describe a zombie's physical looks? Does it depend on how long the corpse has been dead or do all zombies look alike?
This is probably true but I just want to make sure, can an infant turn into a zombie?
Okay, so if the head is still active after it is severed from the body, will crushing the zombie head (like with a brick for example) destroy the zombie completely?
Are there such things as vampire zombies?
What about pirate zombies?
Glam fag zombies? :P
After a person is infected with the zombie virus, does that person have any chance at getting back to a normal life? Or is death the best way out?
Looking at this in a scientific sense, would you say then that Jesus may have possibly been a temporary zombie? (No offense to the Lord..just being scientific.) _________________ Vaccum cleaners may look fun, but are deadly sex toys. as are certain vegetables like, terri schiavo -Powtaz |
