This was the first book we read in Book Club this year. I abosolutely LOVED it. Breathing Underwater is about a boy who is taken to court by his ex-girlfriend who places a restraining order on him for assulting her. At first, he sounds like the nicest guy you know and you'd never think he'd hurt his girlfriend, but as you read (especially his journals) you begin to realize the truth about him. I've never read a book from the point of view of the abuser in the relationship. I found myself feeling sorry for him and hating him at the same time. I recommend this to anyone who has known someone abusive, or even anyone who is just looking for a good book to read. I also recently bought Breatking Point and Nothing to Lose, two books by Alex Flinn. So far, she seems like a really good writer. You should check her other books out, too. |

That sounds like a pretty good read. I've been looking for a break from my usual Stephen King novels and rock star biographies.
Books about human nature and what makes certain people tick fascinates me so. Its a shame because not many books seem to have that kind of aspect in their plots anymore. Lot of books I read lately seem so generic and predictable. I need something to shock me and like recreate my way of thinking for awhile, you know?
Damn I miss book club. _________________ Vaccum cleaners may look fun, but are deadly sex toys. as are certain vegetables like, terri schiavo -Powtaz |

So join it again! I wish we read more books. I'm going to talk to my teacher about setting up a more advanced book club seperate from the one we have now so readers who read crazy fast like me can have more books to discuss You should definately read it. Books by Beatrice Sparks are really good, too. They're edited diaries of anonymous teenagers. Another great book you should read is "Leslie", it's another book that has to do with abuse. OOOH, AND SARAH DESSEN. I'm sure I ha ve more, if you want a list I'll probably make one. I need to make a list of books I want to read before the year ends. Anywho, I love books about human nature, too. Mostly because I want to know why people do the things they do. Sometimes I'll just be sitting in class and I'll see someone raising their hand or sleeping and I just wonder what they think, what they do, who they are. I also want to get into Criminal Psychology. THese kind of books rock my world I can't wait to find out what we're reading next. |

I think I read something like that a few months ago..I don't think it was by Beatrice Sparks though. It was called Go Ask Alice. Really powerful book about a girl who suffers from drug abuse. I recommend it if you haven't read it already.

Hahaha. You and me are definetly kindred spirits of some kind because you just described me too. People amaze me for the littlest things and I just love to learn about them. Maybe its why I'm more of a listener than a talker I guess.
And I would join Book Club in a heartbeat if we still had it. For some reason, our school doesn't support smart clubs like that. We're lucky that we even have an Art Club and even that is like losing money and support from the board. So pretty much any reading I do anymore is for fun. Even my English text book is something I flip through sometimes for a good read. T.S Elliot has some pretty interesting poems. Good way to spend some time by just trying to interpret what this man was trying to say in his poems. Turns out to be really deep and emotional and totally makes me think about life in a whole new way.
Anyways, thanks for the recommendations. I'll look for those next time I'm book shopping. _________________ Vaccum cleaners may look fun, but are deadly sex toys. as are certain vegetables like, terri schiavo -Powtaz |

Go Ask Alice is from Beatrice Sparks, and yes, I have it. The only one I haven't read of her's is The Voices, I think it's called, because it's out of print. If you lived near me, there are SO many books I would love to let you borrow. Just do me a favor and read Breathing Underwater. I'd love to have more people to talk to about it. |
