Fun game. (...so is that what getting stoned feels like?)
Although, perhaps I shouldn't have preset my expectations to "weird" before playing.
My summary to follow... that is, if I can manage to get its theme song out of my head first! _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

"Taurus came charging back. Mooo...."
"Gemini came back, hand in hand. I can't tell them apart...!"
"Cancer came scuttling back. So yummy...."
Que Sera Sera is an annoying song. I don't care for the melody, and that the lyrics are in English certainly doesn't help my opinion of it any. I rather like the other tunes better, such as "Katamari on the Rocks" (theme song BGM), "Lonely Rolling Star" (cool tune composed mostly from square/trianglewave synths), and "Cherry Orchard Times" (happy tune with a preschool choir sound to it). _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Dammit! You guys started a Katamari Damacy thread without me!! D:
My favourite is still Katamari on the Rocks. :3 I also rather like "Lonely Rolling Star". ^^; And I didn't used to like 'Katamari of Love' but it's I like it fine now. :3
D: I still haven't collected all the things. Biggest Katamari I've made so far was nearly 900 meters. I don't have my game on hand right now so I really can't check. ^^;;;
Been working on collecting the cousins. Bloody hard. I especially hated trying to get on to the roof of the house. >_< _________________

If I had a PS2, I'd totally buy that game. ;~;
I listened to some weird Katamari Damacy soundtrack the other day... It was called Minna Daisuki Katamari or something like that. I can't remember because I was so horrified by it that I threw it out after one listen. Katamari on the Rocks was done in two versions - a capella (which was actually pretty hilarious, once I started listening to the lyrics), and with 'animal noises'. Most of it was strange... and annoying.
Something tells me I should hunt down the actual game soundtrack. |

King: "So big, Russia." "Oh well, it's still smaller than Our Royal thing. What was it? A katamari to make a star!"
Uh... nevermind.
Anyway, my current achiements on Katamari:
- Rolled up a North Star at EXACTLY 10m. Blind luck, but a tip: Study the object types in the Collection and note the required size to pick it up. If you can pick up a palm tree, then the katamari is 6m big. If you can pick up those medium-sized trees, then it's nearly 10m already.
Also succeeded in finding the Royal Presents in the Taurus and Ursa Major levels.
And had fun charging up the katamari and launching off of Whale Island's mountain in the North Star level... man, that katamari can fly! It landed in water so deep that even the round symbol used to indicate your katamari's location was below the bottom of the screen... took awhile to get it back to shore. (Did you know that there are 4 "Mystery Creature"s swimming in the mountain's crater in Make A Star 9?) _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

I think that would be the game ost to the actual game? Minna Daisuki Katamari is the sequel to Katamari Damacy, I'm sure. I haven't heard the music from that game... :o
As for the music, I also quite like Fugue#7777. :3

That's what I did, too, although I used elephants instead of palm tress, which I think are slightly smaller. A couple millimetres over, but the king dismissed that. ;P
...
I suck at the charging thing, so I never really use it. X3 _________________

I have problems keeping a straight line while charging up, but no problems otherwise (even though, honestly, I rarely use it).

Really? *jealous* I want to get it too, but I have a load of other games on my list. ;
Considering how much fun the first game was, I'm sure it'll be great. Do share with us about it if you decide to pick it up.
My favourite cousin... Wow, there's so many. I like Lalala and that other one that looks like a disco ball. XD _________________

I've read a lot about it. There is a new 2-player cooperative mode (two players rolling the same katamari), the cousins available in single player, and many new themed levels such as:
- A racing level where the katamari doesn't stop moving once you start it
- A level where the katamari is on fire and will go out if you don't collect fuel to feed it
- Rolling around a sumo wrestler, picking up enough food/etc. to win a sumo wrestling match
Wikipedia has a Katamari Damacy category with several articles in it (but be warned, the We <3 Katamari article has spoilers!)
And at $30, it's still cheaper than your average console game (though not $20 like the original). _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

I was slow when it came to Katamari Damacy, so I ended up buying it after the price got raised. :/ But it's worth it. Definitely.
A sumo match? I'm so there! :D
So, I'll have to take a look at We <3 Katamari. "So yummy!"
...Although I still think she's creepy. D:
I liked the King. And the cousins were so cute, if terribly annoying to collect. :x
I still haven't collected all the presents. Out eof the ones I do have, I quite like the mask ( ) and the guitar, 'cause it reminds me of FLCL. XD _________________

I like the camera, as it's actually functional. You find the funniest things flying around in the "sky" of a level....
Me, I have just three presents left to collect: Make a Star 3, 7, and 9.
I also hear that in the sequel, you can equip two Royal Presents at a time. And judging by a screenshot, one level has you rolling up a katamari to 500m. Whoa, that's gonna be a lot of stuff to collect :woot:
Did you know, after making the Moon, you can find the Hoshino family (as they're called) in your Collection? The boy and girl are under "Children", the mom's under "Adults", and the dad is under "Workers". They don't even have a location listed!
I sure don't recall rolling up a rocket launchpad during Make the Moon.... _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Yup. Some of the descriptions are hilarious. Did you know, in Eternal 1, if you take the gold crayon, the mice standing around it will attack you? Haha. Oh, and I found one of the cousins there raiding the fridge. XD
I sure don't recall rolling up a rocket launchpad during Make the Moon....
XD I do. :3
I've never taken any pictures with the camera. I forgot which buttons to press and I've never bothered to find out. ^^; _________________

Observations about We Love Katamari, so far:
- The cutscenes and such don't have as cool and weird a "feel" as the first.
- Have yet to hear a level music I really like.
- I kinda miss the spherical planet menu system from the first game (Home Planet and Earth).
- You can import all your stars and constellations from the first game, for viewing in the "My Cosmos" area. (My Cosmos is a bit different from My Constellations, but if you zoom in and land on the sun, then it works the same)
- There's a lot more objects to roll up this time around; a LOT more. In a flower level (roll up flowers), I rolled up a little over 1,000 of them within the time limit.
- Larger variety of objects to roll up, too. And when navigating the Collection, it keeps track of new items added since the last time you checked.
- Remember the King's little rants when you lost a level? Now add laser beams shot from his eyes. You can even dodge them while he rants!
- At one time I started rolling before the King said "Go", then he complained about how the Prince was "ignoring Us".
- Saw the Campfire level (where the katamari is on fire). If you go too long between collecting objects, the katamari fizzles and goes out, and you lose. You can't roll up any people in this level (they just get burned and run off).
- You can almost fly underwater.
- More cousins -- the new ones are called "second cousins".
- Look closely and you can still spot some funny stuff in the levels. I saw a few people in the Campfire level who were obviously stoned... surrounded by a ring of mushrooms, dancing/bouncing around a small campfire, each wearing a small mushroom on their head... _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

More observations from We Love Katamari:
- You are going to LOVE the racetrack level.
- There are only 5 standard levels (as opposed to 10 from the first game)
- As always, there's a lot of funny stuff going on if you look closely before you roll things up. Giant elephants bouncing on trampolines? Cousin June playing jumprope with a rain front?
- The fifth standard level (fan: bird & elephant) is like Make the Moon 2.0 -- your goal? 500m. But you can actually get much, MUCH larger than that...
Speaking of which, you get to roll up just about every national landmark you can think of, including:
-- Mount Rushmore
-- The "Hollywood" letters
-- The Grand Canyon
-- The Great Pyramids
-- The Great Fire Kanji
-- Cinderella's Castle
-- Stonehenge
-- UFO's (and crop circles, too! )
And would you believe that there are even larger whirlpools and tornados than the first Katamari? If only the game was new enough to include "Hurricane Katrina" as a collectible item....
But surprisingly, that's actually NOT the final level.
Some of the weirder items you can roll up:
-- The letters "Na", "m", "co", and "".
-- The Prince himself!
- Found some music I actually like: "Everlasting Love" (default BGM for the racetrack). Other nice tunes second to this are "Blue Orb" and "Baby Universe". The others are kinda blah.... "Katamari on the Rocks (arrangement)" is the a-capella version, "Katamari Safari" is the remix using animal noises, and don't even think about "Kuro Kuro Rock" more than once. (IMHO)
Some of the levels with specialized tasks:
- (various): Roll up as many themed objects as possible, or a set amount of objects in as short a time as possible. Such as paper cranes, flowers, schoolkids, candy pieces (such as the Gingerbread House from Hansel & Gretel), fireflies, zoo animals, etc.
- Themed levels: Such as the underwater and racing levels.
- Campfire level: As described before, the katamari will go out if you don't collect objects fast enough. Prepare to get yelled at a few times.
- Cleanup level: Roll up 100 objects in a room as fast as possible.
- Save the Pandas level: You're rated not by size, but according to the cash value of whatever you picked up.
- Baby level: How big a katamari can you make from rolling up only a set # of items?
- Saturn's Ring level: Like the North Star level, only it comes in three different sizes now.
- Farmer level: Remember the Taurus and Ursa Major objectives? They're back... and you've got to collect either a bear OR a cow. The grand prize, though, is the elusive "cowbear". Takes place on the racetrack level.
- Snowman level: No time, no rules, no need to roll stuff up, just build a head for a snowman. Very calm diversion from the other levels.
- Roll up the Sun: We Love Katamari's final level. It actually appears quite early in the game, but you can't beat it until you've completed more of the other tasks. Impressive in its own way, though not as much so as the final standard level.
As for the finale, unfortunately We Love Katamari doesn't have that 'rising crescendo' type effect that the original did ... I blame this on the sheer number and variety of specialized levels, which outclass the relatively small share of standard levels. In the original Katamari, they were the "Make a Star" levels (with goals of 10cm, 20cm, 50cm, 1m, 1.5m, 3m, 6m, 12m, 30m, 300m), but in here, there's only five of them (goals: 15cm, 40cm, 3m, 12m, 500m) . The end-credits minigame doesn't add to the crescendo effect either (like the rolling up entire countries from the first Katamari), but it's pretty sweet in its own way. Without giving away any spoilers, you'll probably have to play it a second time just to figure out its rules... I sure needed to.
The Hoshino family members appear once more... the dad gives you a bonus level that will feel familiar. The kids show up in various levels, and so does the family's pet cat.
All in all, my only complaints about We Love Katamari are two:
- Much of the music. At least you can change the default BGM before going into a level, that relieves some of the pain.
- The overall direction of the game, not quite as impressive as the first Katamari. In some ways I wish the finale was a standard level with a goal of like 1500m or so (instead of Roll Up the Sun) .
But the gameplay still rocks. Especially the racetrack _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA
