I don't mind that they're not included on a sidebar like the current layout (fact is, I'm an 800x600 user, I never see that tab at all) -- saves some server power that way -- but it's more along the lines of I'd still like to see some page for randomly chosen pictures. For fun, really.

I've only had 3 of my pics make Pic of the Hour before, and they only got one or two comments. v.v But at least they made it. ^o^

From what I know, two of my pictures have been pics of the hour.

I always thought it was random. Do people choose them? If so, I'm gonna have to have a word with whoever chooses them because I've seen some pretty crummy stuff in that corner. :/

It is. It's just reshuffled only once per hour (it originally was per pageview, but that took a LOT of server power to keep running).

Because its so rare. And we didn't say it was choosen, we were happy it actually got the chance to be there so that we could get some comments. Some people comment n your art with a "congrats" but thats because they seem to think for some reason it was actually chosen.

Random Pics are not planned for the next version of FAC, but we do plan on having an actual "Featured Picture" aspect.

yes but how would you chose wich one is a featured picture and wich isn't? there are too many pics in FAC and obviously most artists will never get their pics on the Hot Spot.......

I'm glad that Pic of the hour won't be around in the future. It's much better to have featured pics and pic of the week picked by members and staff. There is too much confusion when it comes to pics of the hour. People believe that those pictures are chosen by staff as some of fac's best. Call me crazy but if I came to a site where crayon doodles were featured images.. i wouldn't really want to join. I think I've had one of my pictures in pics of the hour. Maybe two.

Indeed. Could've used a different name all along, actually...

As for how they'll be chosen, they'll basically be chosen like every other art site. DA has Daily Deviations selected by staff (although users can submit suggestions to them, but I believe our features are going to be recent things, so that's not an issue). Epilogue has Editor's Pick (chosen by the "approval panel" of Epilogue, the editors). Elfwood, I believe, has a similar option. And so on.

It'll be subjective to a point, but it's pretty clear what is a high quality pic that deserves special attention and an average or below par image. No, that's not "fair" to everyone, but it gives a goal to work towards and rewards people for really putting time and effort into what they submit.

I think there should be both.

Change the "pictures of the hour" title to "random pictures", and keep it. That way, lesser artists will still get some exposure. But also have the "staff picks". :3

There's a chance that the random will pick some featured picture at some point in time, so no, I say abolish Pic of the hour (random).

and it favors people with 5+ page galleries, I had 1-2 page gallery for 13 months and I only got one pic of the hour.

I wouldn't know about mine, the resolution's too small for it. XD But I doubt it because I have an extremely small gallery that doesn't get updated often.

Yeah, my pictures were pictures of the hour twice and I only knew because I got couple comments saying congrats on the pic of the hour. . . . .
