I just don't get it...I've uploaded almost 20 pictures so far and never encountered a problem like this. By the way, before someone rides my ass about asking questions I did check the HELP FAQ and for other posts similar to this one...didn't find any similar posts, but I'm sorry beforehand if I missed them.
Problem:
I'm trying to add a picture that is 364 X 500 pixels in JPEG.
On the program I use, Serif PhotoPlus 6.0, I'm not sure how to check the picture size by gigabytes or whatever byte-size is used. I didn't know how to check if my picture was under 300k in my program.
Basically, when I tried to add the picture this is what happened.
Pressed Add Artwork
Pressed Upload a picture from my computer
Typed in picture address: Picture path and filename: *computer picture address*
Pressed Upload.
*Got this message*
"File too large to upload. Resize to a smaller size and/or increase compression. Max filesize is the smaller of the following 2 values: 5M, 0k"
I don't know if it's just not my lucky day or something is screwed up w/Fanart Central or if it's my picture. It wouldn't have anything to do with how many pictures I have posted would, it? I'm stumped...if anyone can help, please speak your mind.
Quick info:
Program: Serif PhotoPlus 6.0
Picture Format: JPEG
Picture Size: 364 X 500 Pixels
*and I applied this size to all the layers on my picture.*
This doesn't work out...I'm screwed...
Please help me! |

I'm not the smartests person in the world and someone will probably post after me telling me I was wrong, but I would say that if FAC still says it's too big even though it's 364 x 500 pixels still try making it even smaller, that's what I always do until it will aceept.
Hope I helped but if not I'm sorry. _________________ Recommened web comics:

Thanks alot, but I just tried resubmitting the image as 400 X 315 pixels or something and it accepted it... also tried submitting the orignal image as 500 X 364 pixels and it accepted it...I guess it was just a temporary glitch...I feel really stupid for making such a fuss over it...I should just have more patience.
:D Thanks again for replying so quickly!

probably because it was to big in terms of file size. 300kb is the limit. unless you aren't saving as BMP format, you probably won't run into this problem. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

Locate the file in your Explorer, right-click and select "Properties". You'll see the filesize displayed in the properties window that pops up. (If you are viewing Explorer in "Details" mode, it will display the filesize next to the name automatically) _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

239kb is a little on the high side (though not over the size limit)... in your Explorer, on Details view, what does it say about the file type? If the filename ends in ".bmp" and/or the Details column says "Bitmap Image", then that's your problem. If so, open your drawing, and on the Save As dialog box, select a different file format from the "Save as Type" dropdown list (preferably JPG/JPEG or GIF) . _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

When I looked up properties and under file type it said JPEG, but there was nothing about "filename ends in ".bmp"" Then, just for curiosity's sake I checked the byte sizes of some of my pictures...it's funny that the sizes can range from 160kb to 270kb...come to think of it, the pictures with less color had a lower byte number, but almost all the pictures are 500 X 365 pixels...I wish program allowed me to resize my picture by byte size...it sure would solve alot of problems...man, I hate editing pictures after scanning them...it's just a pain... |

All of my pics are 581x800 or the other way around, and the average size is 150kb and the biggest is around 180kb. What program are you using to compress it? _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

No problem then.
it's funny that the sizes can range from 160kb to 270kb...come to think of it, the pictures with less color had a lower byte number
The reason for that is simple: Any image with more detail, more colors, will require more data (and thus larger files) than images with simple colors and/or details.
A major factor in a JPEG file's size is the compression/quality setting you use. Compression and quality are opposite each other: More compression = lower quality and vice versa. If your program is set at a very high JPEG quality (low compression), this will result in large filesizes.

First of all, the program I use is "Serif PhotoPlus 6.0" Since I'm kinda new to the *whole scan and edit the whole picture scene* I wasn't really sure what program to use so I looked on a message board for suggestions...I probably should have looked up a tutorial instead. Is there a better program to use to edit pictures? Please make the suggestions of the *free download variety*. I've heard photoshop and adobe are really good, but I've looked up some of them and they are mighty expensive...if I'm wrong, someone correct me...THANKS
St. Arsenic, could you tell me what program you use because my pictures are eating up the room on my usb keychain! Nooooooooooooo!!
Besides, 581x800 pixel and 150kb doesn't sound too bad at all! |

I use a small utility called LView Pro. It's sort of limited to opening/converting files, but it can also access your scanner remotely (just pick File>Acquire from its menu), and it's very good at its JPEG compression (options can be found under File>Properties, JPEG tab), I rarely ever have a file over 300kb, even when it's 800x600 or larger.
The current versions of LView Pro are time-limited shareware, but the older versions (that's what I use) are non-expiring shareware.
