Creating Races

Has anyone seen strata lately?
NO!
Its because he is too busy with his shiroen things, i just dont get how he does it..... Inventing a whole race with their alphabet and everything, its crazy!

Have you ever done something like it? its too hard right post about it!

(I dont know wich forum this belongs to..... so any mod plz move it to the correct one)

I've created races before... no where as detailed as coming up with the language and alphabets but I've done quite a few rather intricate races and general background histories for my original fantasy world Horizon (none of which I've ever actually had the energy to type up but will have to fairly soon )

...I wanna see some real made up languages. As in, a language that has its own grammar and everything.

Not just some pseudolanguage based right off of English. Most "made-up" languages I've seen are just the roman alphabet rearranged. That's crap. I want some real creativity.

Wow, a topic about me. I'm flattered :woot:

If anyone asks, the Shioren alphabet (or "Shiori", if you want) is essentially a phonetic cipher with slightly modified grammar. It's enough to resemble an actual language, but not to the point where you need years of study and a completely new dictionary to read it. And since the drawings are visual, not spoken, it's the best of both worlds. Wink

Isn't that what J.R. Tolkien did? He invents languages and based the LOTR books around the history of his races?

Or some s**t. I don't know. Maybe J.R. Tolkien liked forum RP's too.

I think the creators of Dragonlance did the same thing for several of thier races.

Yeah, that's what Tolkien did. Made up that elven language (both of which I've forgotten. XD), then made the elves to go with it, then their history and the rest of everything else.

So I've heard, anyway.

I don't make my own races, I don't like halflings either. Or the word halflings for that matter. Now if i had the time and the patience i might make up an entire new way of writting and a race for that said writing, but i have a short attention span. : O

Referring to you creating a language and a race, I assume.

I'm attempting to do that--creating a language, that is. But I'm too lazy to change sentence orders around. Once I'm in college and have a year of Japanese under my belt, along with psycho French and my limited grasp of Finnish, I'm going to to work more on it.

And back to the first post, never made up a race. Just basically humans and animals. I've made monsters, but those don't exactly count.

yes strata you are famous and its my fault i should get credits... a request or something, i deciphered the first phrase of your muse thingy, as you sit here in short moments,... or something like that but i got bored and did this thread!

And lindsay drakken are not your race, strata made the shiori and their alphabet completely out of his mind.... I think strata once did a contest about your own race or something...

its really hard because you have to think too much...and i get bored easily thats why i just cant do it, and i keep playing and drawing either humans or.... humans yeah....

It's so true. With a language, you have to pay attention to the nuances. Will it agree? Won't it? How are you forming adjectives and adverbs? Will there be two words in the other language that have the same translation in English? Makes you want to rip your hair out. But it's fun.

Hm, I made my own race. Haven't gotten around to making a language for them yet, but I have a small bit of history, customs, appearance, something like that. They even live on another planet (the planet's name is Nayeada). Like, how all of the Cheera (that's the name of my race) wear mainly white clothes, no black (wearing black results in instant death), their names end in an "i" (Taiki, Michiki), and they all have pale skin, blond hair, and yellow-orange eyes.

But, wow Strata, you must really be dedicated to your work to make up a language!

It took me about ten minutes to defeat Giga Bowser, Ganondorf, and Mewtwo from Super Smash Brothers Melee using Peach.
How long did it take my brother to defeat those characters using Yoshi? Two minutes.
