I had recently uploaded a picture and got a E-mail saying it was denied because it was traced. But, I wasn't traced, I swear. Yes, I'll admit, I did look off a picture for help, but no tracing, is that not allowed either?
Just wondering, is there anyway to get it up cause it was denied wrongly?
I'm not even sure of the person I would talk to about it...

Ok here's the picture. Just him from the shoulders up...nothing special about it.
I'll see if I can find the website again where I found found the picture to use as referance. (I forgot what it was called, I'll have to do some searching . . . . )

Ok! Here's the picture I used for referance and my art...

Well, that's up to the mods. Unless you have a videotape of you drawing it (Which I doubt) there's not much to do. Talk to one of the mods.

Traced pictures, aka "copy art" (which also includes Photoshop recolors of screencaps, etc.), are not allowed on FAC as a rule. The problem is, it's not easy to draw a line between reference and traced.

Maybe attach the image in question to your post? Then we can come to a group decision on the matter.

Approval panel staff are people too, and once in a while, a mistake happens.

...I actually think it's pretty obvious it was from a reference, not traced...

You can definately tell it was drawn not traced, and if it was traced the pic of InuYasha would look sharper. I don't see why the mods would do it to this picture when there are already so many IY pics already.

I agree. It wasn't traced. I remember commenting on that one before. I also remember your other pic and it was good too, andthat wasn't traced either. So, I believe you. I don't know why they couldn't see that

NOTE: A trace is only determined by overlaying the drawing to the reference. You cannot simply look at a picture and say whether or not it is traced because poor line quality is just a matter of the artist's skill at handling a pencil, not a sign it was freehanded.

But on that note, I didn't handle this picture.

Handling a pencil. But of you compare the bead necklace, I think it's pretty obvious. The other lines are fairly straight and seem like the person who drew the picture drew it carefully enough, but when you look at the necklace... That's one of the things a lot of younger artists mess up on, they're not patient enough to draw a bunch of circles properly and just rush through that part with a few quick lines. If it were traced, the beads wouldn't have been so oval in shape.

There's a whole bunch of other little differences, too, like part of the eyebrows and the space between the end of the necklace and the hair.

Why do you want this in your gallery?

When I posted that, the reference had not been added. But again, it's not about little differences. Unless you take both images into photoshop and overlay them, you cannot say whether it was traced or not (and I'm not saying this is). If someone traces, it generally means they lack the skill or patience to draw it on their own. Very few actually sit there and meticulously trace every little detail of a line. Curves are sloppy, straight lines shakey, but when overlayed, all the lines match up in placement.

It's that kind of "well this part isn't as pointy, and there's a little gap here, so it couldn't have been traced" argument that breeds masses of people defending those who actually do trace because they think if they can see any difference, than it has to be freehand.

In this case, I wasn't the one who dealt with it n' it's up to the person who did to give reason.

Some people are getting a little over obsessed with the tracing b.s and rejecting for no reason. Resubmit and it will be approved.

Indeed.

Which is really what I was trying to get at.

Both sides are turning into overworked mobs when it just takes two people to deal with it. The person whose picture it is, and the person on staff who is perfectly capable of dealing with it (or privately seeking a separate opinion).
