The trailer for the Smallville episode titled 'Splinter' looks really great. It gives the feel of an intense horror thriller. So far as I can tell, the acting is extremely good. The plot is so far out that it doesn't seem like anything else on television right now.

The plot:
Clark is pricked by a splinter of Kryptonite, SILVER Kryptonite, a new type. Most types of Kryptonite have their own effects on Kryptonians such as Clark. Red Kryptonite makes him careless...and a careless Superman is very dangerous. Green makes him weak by taking away the powers he is given here on Earth by our yellow sun. It makes him mortal like us.. and the drop from being as super-human as he is too mere mortal such as us can kill him. There are other types such as black, yellow and white. These were mostly created by remnants of the meteors passing through space clouds, and changing them. Lex even made his own type of Kryptonite before. So, what silver Kryptonite does is makes Clark paranoid and delusional to the extreme. In this episode, he starts to believe everyone is against him, including his family. It seems he is helpless, everything he fears seems to be coming true. These events depicted in the trailer are awesome and extraoridinary. It gets pretty scary through those few seconds.

The episode airs Thursday, November 10, at 8pm, 7pm central time on your Warner Bro's station. If anyone has free time and would like a thrill of a show, i suggest Smallville - Splinter.

A pic from the episode..

I officially hate Smallville. We were forced to watch it in class (under the context of an article we read "what makes superman so darn american"). It pained me greatly.

The writing sucked.

omg its X Ray Sad ya that was written by Mark Verheiden, he's actually good.. but that one was a flop. and it was the very fourth episode of the entire series, most shows from season one suck ass. Sorry, dude, that you had to watch that one.

But I don't think you should judge a series by watching just one episode, try to catch tomorrows Smallville if you're bored at 7pmish. I really doubt it would be your thing tho, but atleast you'll see that it's not that bad of a show. It's won a Jules Verne for best Sci Fi btw Razz

I've seen bits of other episodes before. I just can't enjoy the concept. At all.

I hate superheroes and 99.99% of shows about teenagers, so putting the two together doesn't thrill me. Sitting through an entire episode was just the last straw to prove I wasn't missing anything.

(it ain't hard to be the best sci-fi when the only competition is copies of star trek with various slightly different situations and new puppet aliens. Wink )

Ok, i'm just going to close my eyes and count to ten, i dont need to break things because of you. Grr! And sci fi requires a good script and direction, drama just requires everyone sleeping with eachother, and brutal honesty and sarcasm isn't hard to act out, ESPECIALLY for low grade actors. You don't have to watch it, i cares none at all Razz

Was that a subtle attack on House I see there? Razz

Most of my favorite shows are crap. Just Shoot Me? Stupid. But I love it.

And sci fi is just as valid as any other form, I'm just saying the majority of it is as crappy as most of the sit coms or medical dramas, so being "the best" isn't hard. House is one of the best medical/mystery shows. Law and Order one of the best crime related. Smallville one of the best sci fi. But most of the other shows in those genres are crap, so it's not much of an accomplishment. Laughing

And I know that the majority is as crappy because half the channels here play nothing but various sci fi shows during the afternoons on weekends, and pretty much all of them consist of puppets, typical makeup for alien races (let's paint her blue, then she's an alien!), and the same story over and over. Just like most sit coms are nearly identical.

Smallville may very well be a technically decent show (note I just said that I don't like it and didn't like the writing of that episode, not that it was a bad show), but just because it's "one of the best"...it ain't competing against much.

EDIT: however, Hugh Laurie is a very respected actor with much success under his belt and various awards, so Razz to calling him low grade

Oh, sorry, i never heard/seen him before. he is good, makes me laugh my ass off. And ya i was reffering to House Very Happy Hell, I like Just shoot me too. And I generally dislike sci fi, I really hate all that space ship stuff and blue makeup Laughing I just can't seem to agree with most of their space and technology logic. So i know where you are coming from. I like House, man...my dad is in love with that show and i would hate it if he finds out it's on dvd Sad just because I wont get my Smallville. I agree, most of sci fi is crappy, but in my opinion, it doesnt take anything away from Smallville. Michael Rosenbaum won an award for best acting in an episode, too. I'm not sure which episode, so i gotta look that up.
Oh, sorry, i never heard/seen him before.
That's 'cause he's British and most of his other stuff was over there. Blackadder, A Bit Of Fry And Laurie, etc. He's one of the leads in a favorite movie of mine, Peter's Friends (Stephen Fry, Tony Slattery, Emma Thompson, Kenneth Branagh), and the character is so different from House that it's insane. I like him much better as House, but I digress...

Most of sci fi is cheesy. Smallville has the benefit of not really having to explain as much as the space stuff, since it's more on the supernatural side. Most of the only sci fi I really like is the parody stuff, where the technology is purposefully silly. Galaxy Quest and such. The stuff that's meant to be serious just ends up funny.

So Smallville is better than most in the genre, but that still ain't sayin' much. Laughing It beats Star Trek: Enterprise....woo.

haha, what i meant to say was "I agree, most of the sci fi shows Smallville is up against are crappy, but in my opinion, it doesnt take anything away from Smallville deserving the awards." Shows coming on tonight, damn I'm all excited like a groupie :P

It turns out that smallville has won a few more awards than I thought, and they were nominated for a bunch. Mostly sucky awards. But the show did win an emmy, so thats cool, and a few Saturns..

Yes, and I got that, but what I was trying to say is it doesn't add anything to it either. Like if you're the best artist in your school, but no one else can draw a stick figure, that doesn't mean anything.

I must say that was pretty good, but what exactly did that kriptonian do with the silver kryptonite in the end ?

its called a cliffhanger..leaves you wondering, Smallville is NOTORIOUS for doing those. It was a great show, showed us just how scary Clark can be. Silver K is something the smallville writers thought up. it's new. I think the professor did that because When Kryptonian built things come in contact with kryptonian matter, it brings things to life, such as the ship. Earlier in the series, Clark put a Kryptonian Key into his ship, and brought it to life, it was the ship that brought him to earth. When I say it came to life, i mean it started up, and i think it's purpose was to go and make his Fortress of Solitude. But it got caught in a storm on the way, so no Fortress. Later, the ship was found, Clark got it back but there were some complications...long story short.. he was forced to destroy the ship. With a man-made kryptonite key. So anyway, Kryptonite has it's effects on things born from that planet. I think dropping the silver rock in the soil will eventually bring the ship to life, the proffessor needs the ship for something, possibly to report back to where he came. BTW, the proffessor is Braniac, from the comics. In the comics, tho, Braniac it Kryptons Super-Computer, he was the cause for Kryptons demise. I guess he is the opposite in the show, looks like he cares for Kal-El, AKA Clark. Anyway.. on to my little review..

I'll refer to the actors as their roles in the show..
This was new territory for Clark, the acting, he done a little in the Fog, but he needed it to play the paranoia part. So it wasn't his best. But he did enough to make you believe he was going insane. Others did well, Lex was just great as always, wonderful actor he is. Lana wasn't bad, I always expect her to embrace her role, she was good playing defenselessly scared. Lionel, Lex's father, was strangly not as good as in his other, more complicated roles he plays. he usually has that sinister father thing going down well. The Parents were good, notably Jonathan Kent.

The writing was great in a few aspects. With the whole paranoia, crazy end to it. But, one thing the show has to do, since it only has an hour of air time, is it doesn't finish all the stories in one episode, it also has a comic book out, and that helps because they get to finish off B-stories from the show. I am sure noone understood why Clarks parents weren't as upset as they should have been at the end. They kept out all the sympathy deals so they would have more time to show us Braniacs part at the end. That has to be done alot. Also... one thing i hate about the show is they get the luxury of not having to explain why things happen all the time, such as with the silver K, we all have to assume Braniac has something to do with it, but the writers dont have to let us know all the details because from the git-go kryptonite was the cause for all the problems in the show. It's good for them, but bad for us. But it doesn't bother me much most of the time, if you watch the show alot you can pretty much figure out all the missing details and reasons.

The special effects weren't as good as usual, Smallville is one of the few shows who use alot of them. But they were still good, compared to the best effects on television. They have stopped using the super-hearing special effect... it sucked greatly, but it made more since than just zooming the camera in to his ear. But i am still happy the producers decided to show off every one of his developed powers in this episode. It makes it more epic in a way.

This was a very different story. Also a filler episode. But probably the best filler so far. Not many people like them tho. We don't get too many fillers nowadays, because the show has gone into everdrive and now the producers are trying to fit in as much of the Superman story as possible. Which wasn't the original intention of the show. it was supposed to be about Clark as a teenager, not about Superman, which is Clark as an adult. but thats a good thing and it was inevitable. We've seen enough of his past, now all the fans want Superman, lol.

But, all in all, I think it was one of the best, being that the A-story was so awesome and unpredictable. And Clarks acting, tho still in it's early stages, was dead-on for the part. I think it was a top 3 so far in this new season.

I'm glad you liked it, Mawk, it's one of my favorites now.
