I have to agree with Carter on this. I hate Hilary, but I also hate when people aren't mentioning the artistic tallent. I'd take it as a compliment if someone bothered to comment on a pic of someone they hate in the first place. It says the thumbnail view was impressive enought to lure them in.
Here's a comment on one of my pics I thought was... interesting:
"I like it but the picture is ugly but only because the person is ugly " _________________ |
Dude, laugh it off. If I cared every time someone ranted n' raved about my subject matter I'd be pretty frustrated at this point with all the "man, did you see that VMA performance? What a fatass! And what's with those braids?" or "Haha, boy did they suck.". Some people can't help themselves. And really, it's your own fault for drawing them. You know, or should know, the reaction you'll get. I can't draw what I do then be surprised when people throw in their glam hating opinions.
Then again, my subjects have talent unlike *ahem* some that were recently mentioned.
it's not my fault becuz i draw whatever i want. not like I did something wrong because some ignorant members dont know how to comment on artwork properly...its not like its hard. besides the point of this forum topic is to post pet peeves, that was on of mine. |

The world ain't fair. Deal with it. Go look at the most commented pic for crying out loud. I think it's still some sketch of a Sonic character. People on this site don't usually comment on tallent, just subject matter. It's sad, but true. That doesn't mean to stop drawing what you love, though. I don't know how you can stand Hilary, but if you like to draw her then just keep on doing it. _________________ |

Didn't say you shouldn't have said it, simply gave my opinion of how to deal with it.
No one's forcing you to post on this site, and no one's forcing you to post a certain thing, thus it IS your fault. The only person you control is you, you can't control what other people say, and you should know what kind of reactions people like hilary duff get. Thus if they bother you, it's your fault.
People who draw hated pop stars know what they're getting into. No faking innocence and I don't blame people one bit, just as I simply roll my eyes and move on when people leave me comments about subject matter and not my art.
I KNOW that there's a lot of hatred out there for big hair and leather, but it's MY choice to draw and post it. No one's forcing me, and if it bothered me that much, I would stop. I can't control how other people behave, so I won't even bother trying to. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Sorta the same thing here. A lot of people tend to draw and comment on pics of teenage people, so when I painted an older man I was told it was ugly. Didn't bother me, though, because I was real happy with the art itself. I feel sorry for people who can't appreciate the art for what it is- skill and time. I know both of you, lil artizt an Fallen, spend a ton of time and are really skilled, however the people in your portraits are very different. Very very different. _________________ |

Hey now!...well...ok yeah. I've never considered them "different" 'cause long hair and leather is rather normal to me. I get far fewer hate comments on FAC than other places because the users here are, for the most part, to young to even remember or know about most of my subjects. So to them they're just creepy lookin' slightly feminine dudes. Whereas on DA and other places I get the "They sucked!" or "fuckin' fags" comments. Such is life.
And I accept the "fuckin' fags" comments with a smile and move on 'cause I chose to post it. And really, it ain't a picture of me, so what do I care. If they're immature enough to even comment like that, what do I care what they think of the picture, anyway?
EDIT: And some of you kids drawing pop stars think you got it bad? Try having middle age people comment who've had 20 years to build up their hatred of a specific person. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Ah. Agreed. Can't tell those pop princesses apart.
But ya can't stick a member of Faster Pussycat in Dokken and not tell the difference. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Twenty pages . . . so much to read . . . .
In response to the start of this topic, my pet peeves about fan art are:
- Swooning. Yes, those forsaken "I LUV THIS! DO MOR!" sort of comments; I just ignore them.
- Outright flames. I haven't experienced any (even at other places I've been, like FF.net), but nonetheless am a little wary of them.
- Being attacked for giving constructive criticism/suggestions. I haven't been on the receiving end of this either, but few things take the wind out of one's constructive sails like being shot down for doing a good job.
- Duplicating official art, i.e. same character same pose same expression -- good practice, yes, but it's hardly imaginative.
Yeah, they're hardly original. And so is this one:
QUOTE (BAMFManiac (Alex the Great)) |
people who don't comment- i understand that not every picture is a masterpiece, but some pictures will get so many views and few people will comment.
Also one of my minor gripes, more so in writing than in drawing. I've posted writing on some other forums, they receive plenty of views yet no one offers as much as a word of actual feedback. *sigh* Part of the job though, so I keep going.... _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA
I've got a new peeve:
People who's pictures get deleted (I'm talking about one or two, not their whole gallery) so they repost them with "This got deleted so I'm reposting it"
KIDS!! If it was deleted, there was a REASON!
Oops...I think I did that without realizing...I thought that it was because the clean-up crew (whom I should really thank, along with the approval panel, for their dedication to the website) maybe deleted the category (since it was just 1 picture). It's this one...just let me know, I believe I followed all the guidelines, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to make sure. ^^
I love the approval panel...although it does take a while for pictures to post, I doesn't matter a bit to me...I'm just glad that FAC is doing something about the website that would help the members enjoy it more...
Alright...pet peeves: Just about anything that any other member has mentioned, I agree. Super crazy fan-girls trying to claim two-dimentional characters, people commenting without proper grammer and/or spelling, etc, etc. But, I don't think it's so bad if a member should use "L337" in their drawings once in a while for a little fun. |

If a category is removed, its contents are moved elseware.
If the pic was removed, there was probebly a reason. It could have been broken.
Note: There should be no more broken pics on the site, except offsite links. _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

Artwork that had no time into making.
I hate it! why should other artists be even allowed to submit "artwork" if it's not even art. I've seen a picture with only a pink little dot. It's pointless, useless and frustration to think that they are filling up bandwith for nothing.

Jill, if you ever see anything like "A dot!" you could always e-mail the picture title, and username of whoever made it to the abuse team. And who knows, it very well could be taken down. |

Hmm I hate it when all you get is a comment like OMG *fav* 'yeah that really helps' or when you draw a game character and the person just goes on about how the chara or the level youre stuck on sucks and they say not much else. But what really annoys me is when you draw yaoi and you clearly capital the words if you don't like yaoi don't comment with your moronic replies etc.
And what do you get.....
'EWW it's a guy and a guy' or your makin fun of a pairing *pretty obviously* and the person takes it seriously and goes into a rant.
Ack too many things actually mostly to do with pointless comments etc.
As for the deleting thing half my gallery got wiped *including my most popular pic* and I didnt see what was wrong with them.

You know...there should be a new rule...you submit a picture that is worthless and just there to hog space, you delete a drawing from that artists gallery.
It would prove well... ^_^ |
