lol i just saw mean girls over the weekend, amy. i wasn't ecstatic to see it or anything, but it was actually really funny! i had no idea it was a sort of "snl" movie, since it was produced by lorne michaels, tina fey wrote it, and she plus a couple other snlers were in it. it wasn't too corny and was pretty realistic. it wasn't completely original or anything, but it dealt with the subject matter well and had great writing. it was a lot better than i expected. _________________ i fought the war, but the war won |

lol i thought mars attacks was pretty funny. like maemi-chan said, it's not one of his best, but it's pretty good. the aliens themselves were so quirky and weird. i think it was meant to be strange and corny, tho, because it was like a mock tribute to all those old alien movies. _________________ i fought the war, but the war won |

I don't know, I saw it in theatres on opening weekend and after the movie I just got the same feeling I got when I blew a bunch of money playing carnival games. I did like how that old lady had that dead stuffed cat, that was funny. |

Some of the worst movies I've seen, are as follows:
Pokmon: The Movie. Not only is the plot lame, and Mewtwo breaks every known rule about Pok-battles, but it has just about the most flagrant abuse of the 'Cosmic Reset Button'. Ever.
Super Mario Bros. The movie itself was a little funny, but the major problem is that it didn't feel like a Mario movie.
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. For sake of honesty, I haven't seen the entire thing, only the second half of it. The CGI is good on technical merits, but I don't like it, for the same reasons as the Mario Bros. movie -- it doesn't feel enough like a Final Fantasy.
Dungeons & Dragons. I'm no fan of the staple RPG universe, but this movie was bad. When we watched it (rented on video, thankfully) we gave it a right good MST3K treatment.

It made me sad that Jeremy Irons stooped low enough to do that movie. That and *shudder* Time Machine _________________ "I've got a sticky Darodo!"

As odd as I may sound popping over here in my curiosity to read this, a lot of "worst movie ever" statements are made strictly based on personal taste.
I love musicals, and while a lot of people dislike "Moulin Rouge", I enjoyed it not for the sake of it being a musical, I enjoyed it because it was insane. It was by no means a "spectacular musical" or anything of the sort. It was just on so much crack that it was an enjoyable watch for me. On the other hand, I dislike Chicago. I am of the firm belief that only the music saved it. That is my preference.
"Street Fighter" and "Mario Bros.", much like "Interview With the Vampire" and "Queen of the Damned", are decent stand-alone movies. Sure, in both cases, game and book were better. But to watch them for movies and pay no mind to what they were based on, they were all fairly decent.
Same went for "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", which got a bad rap because it bore absolutely no resemblance to the graphic novel upon which it was based. I personally liked it.
I tend to like chick flicks like "Princess Diaries", "Jersey Girl", and others. I'm a sucker for a good romantic comedy, though. And I will definitely admit that there are some that aren't worth the time and effort to go see.
However, the movie that is critically acclaimed as the worst film ever: "Gigli".
And I don't have high-hopes for the upcoming live action version of "The Last Unicorn", either. |

well yea, of course this thread is based on personal taste. just as a list of the "best movies ever" would be based on personal taste. it's not like you have to hate it because we do, too. it's all our personal opinions.
you made some good points, tho
and yes, there are certain movies which almost no one can deny the suckiness/wonderfulness of. lol i've never even seen gigli or the blair witch project and i think they suck. _________________ i fought the war, but the war won |
