This is because the X-Box is built with an nVidia graphics chipset (GPU), whereas the 360 has an ATI -made GPUI. The core graphics hardware is different, thus the old code can't instantly be run on the new hardware.

By contrast, the PS2 and PS3 both use nVidia GPU's, while the 'Cube and Revo both use ATI GPU's.

(Ironically, all three next-gen consoles use IBM-made CPU architecture.)

Sorry if I'm being a chump towards you Strata. It's just that a lotta people rag on the Xbox on these boards. But I'm just saying, the folks at microsoft aren't idiots. The xbox had stomping power... and I'm not just talking about the specs. I think it's a little thing called Xbox Live! And the 360 will be ready for it right out of the box. I play soo many xbox games online, and I gotta say it's the best thing to come out of the fourth gen consoles. And believe it or not punks, the xbox has a lot of sweet games. They're just not crappy japanese RPG's!

The Revolution will only be for Nintendo die-hards. But I think the cube just about milked their franchises for me. I wasn't impressed when I saw that small clip from metroid prime 3... and really that's the only thing nintendo had left that I cared for. And I think the remote control doesn't seem like a great idea to me. Unless it's a VR perifiral.. then a plain old control should do. The only thing I'll still give nintendo is their next system will be a solid and reliable as the rest(of theirs).

PS3... well they seem to be following in Nintendo's footsteps as far as milking franchises. Nothing but big name sequels. Only difference is sony's franchise titles were never good in the first place.

As for the 360's price point, $400 isn't that bad. If you get it at launch you'll be getting a pretty sweet bundle, with the dvd remote and all. Somebody mentioned the $300 (core system). If anybody has any sense, they won't buy that version of the 360.

And yeah... backwards compatability isn't important. Unless you're a chump and you sell your old systems for $20.

More accurately, I'm just not interested in the [b]games[/b]. 'Sweet' is a declaration of taste, and 'taste' varies from person to person. I've seen screens and preview articles, and have yet to see a single -- let alone 360-exclusive -- title [i]to suit my taste[/i]. So ... there. (For comparison: popular though they are, to me the flavors of eggnog, cranberry, and Swiss cheese are utterly repugnant)

Anyway, I haven't really been considering getting [i]any[/i] of the new gen consoles. Expensive stuff, plus I already have a PS2. And in Japan, they produce games for even old consoles, so I'm good with that. Yeah.

Graphics aren't really an issue for me, but if it can get away with having graphics like WoW, :wub: Storylines are far more important to me; I'll play the ugliest game ever if the plot is strong enough to drive me on. XS2 was a bit of a problem, though. :/ Of course, this is the part where y'all figure out I haven't been doing any research on [i]any[/i] of the new consoles.

I'm going with the Xbox 360 only. The reasons? Well, for starters they put think customer/gamer first instead of their wallet( ) The 360's design is nicer, works better, smaller, lighter, and it has awesome face plates. The controller is the best I've ever held next to the Dreamcast, S-controller of the Xbox, and the Duke. Sony's system and controller just do not appeal to me at all, for one, when I just look at their controller may hand goes numb with fear.

And the 360's games! The starting lineup is the best I've yet to see for a console. From The Elder Scrolls IV:Oblivion, Quake 4, Dead Or Alive 4, Call Of Duty 2, Kameo, to Perfect Dark Zero, I love it all :wub: ! There are also many more to come which I am greatly looking forward to.

On another note, I agree partially with Silver Star on the Jane Lee thing. Team Ninja has greatly perfected the male form, I must say ^_^ . And I don't mind that the women of DOA have bounce, it's being able to play something that is beautiful, a fantasy if you will, that makes it the most fun. Why play as something that has the face and body of an imp while you can play as a sexy man/woman?

My favorite male character from Dead Or Alive would definitely be Brad Wong :wub: . I love the way he is progressing as a character in DOA 4! The rest of the male lineup is great as well, though I really preferred Jane Lee in the third one over DOA 2 Ultimate. My borther has claimed most of the female fighters except for Ayane (which I play). I can't wait till the Xbox 360 launch!

Well to get the graphics card that supports those high end games will cost about $500. And you could get the 360 for hmm... $400. I gave up on pc gaming a while ago. It's far more expensive then console gaming. Cause you're constantly needing to upgrade the pc. Where as the consoles come out every 5 years.

And there will probly only be about 10 games that crossover from pc to the 360. So I'm not really think that logic is as sound as it could be.

I hate to say it, but in the end I think it comes down to prefferance.

And on top of that there's a bevy of xbox exclusives, that won't be on the PC. Long story short, the more I think about it, the more I like American gaming. I know the original xbox failed in the japanese gaming market and I was actually happy about that, cause I don't think the xbox should've been in japan. All they play are RPGs and pokemon. And dating sims.... weeeeeee.

And I'm thinking the PS3 will just be 3 times the sequels as the PS2. Yay Jak 10!!!

I someday plan on getting both of them. i was a major playstation fan.

i don't own an x box. so i'm holding out for the new x box 360

but i hear a rumor that it won't be compatible for the older versions of the xbox games. i hope that's not true.

the revolution will be last. i already got the gamecube and resident evil 4 with super smash bro's melee. what else could a guy want. with his PS2.

the 360 will be able to play select XBox games, namely the later generation ones. its still up in the air about which one's in particular, but you can bet that Halo 2 will be on that list.

I'm going to take a wait and see attitude on this one. All of the systems sound intriguing to me. I'm excited about the revolutions new controller, I just hope that Nintendo can produce enough games to actually make the system worthwhile.

In the mean time, the PS2 is still coming out with a lot of great games which will keep me busy for a while.
