One for Rants and Complaints. A place where users can release anger. :x Not anger specifically towards FAC, but things in general. xD Most Forums have them. |

And the problem has always been that we have a large usergroup that loves to bitch, and an equally large group that loves to argue. As nice as such a forum sometimes is, it poses more of an annoyance than a benefit. A lot of bickering and aggravation.
In the end, it's just as easy to calm down a little n' start a topic about whatever the subject is in the appropriate section. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Perhaps a sort of Battleground subforum might be appropriate somewhere where debates can be held.. Rules: No personal attacks, only make pro/con arguments for/against the topic. Keep all debates in the Battlefield.. if you have an issue elsewhere, quote them and start a thread...

Would never work. Ever.
If people want to argue, they can do so within the rules of the forum. I don't see why we need a separate forum for it unless someone wants to post a pointless complaint (as it is on da and such places), in which case it would do nothing but start fights and require constant scrutiny for what is and is not appropriate. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. But people enjoy arguing.. or to put it in a way which might not get so many frowns.. 'debating'.. So wouldn't a subforum with rules explaining exactly (would be built up over time) what is or isn't allowed make sense.. I'd enjoy it.
A bit of intelligent banter. Sounds good to me. |

Intelligent Banter IS a very appealing proposal, but there are many not-so-intelligent people out there, no, not the crazy ones, but them cruddy NOOBS, that would ruin the entire thing by flaming someone's opinion, not presenting the facts, or being disrespectful. Besides, not many people take the time to read every rule like we do. It's not because it's your fault, but rather, you can blame all of the people who would rather get attention and be known as troublemakers than become a well-respected and generous member of this wonderful place. Toodles! |

Like I said, in theory it's fine. In theory, even a complaints forum is grand, a place to say "I hate strawberry ice cream! " or "dogs suck ", but in practice, it ends up with a bunch of ghey flaming and people carrying arguments into other threads. Just look at DA's complaints forum. It's a mess and is always a mess.
As far as debating goes, that wasn't the proposal. "Rants/complaints" are not debates. Either way, tell me why it would be better to put a "Shrek 2 is so much better than Shrek 1!!! " thread in that forum instead of in movies to begin with. Just a whole lot more hassle making separate rules. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |
