Heard it before, darling. I'm not going to waste my money on something that is so terrible.
AND just because you like it does not make it good.
Musical quality and musical enjoyment are too entirely different things.
Know how long a discussion of how much you like them should last?
"I like MCR."
"Me too"
THE END. No one wants to hear about how much you swing from their nuts.
A discussion of how skilled/talented they are, on the other hand, is much more interesting. Unfortunately, fans of MCR can never quite get their mind around that fact. Or maybe they're just too stupid to tell the difference. I'm undecided. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

 Hey, im not talking about their quality. The fact is I like the way they sound. I just do. I couldn't give a s**t if it was a bunch of latin homosexuals trying to earn a quick buck for their plane tickets back to Mexico.
Now lets take your suggestion and talk about how skilled/talented they are:
"They suck. Its all Emo and Emo is gay."
"Ya. They suck. People who like them are idiots."
"Ya."..........
That lasted long. _________________ Smoking cigarettes can reveil hidden laser traps. This message brought to you by Marlboro.

Why did you reply if that's all you were going to say? I just fuckin' told you no one cares if you like them. At least no more than one post worth, which you used up earlier. "I like them" is no defense or evidence for anything. Your example was STILL all about whether you like them or not.
"The guitars are mediocre and generic"
"But I like them"
"Oh okies lolz I didn't no u lyked dem, dat's compleetly different. my misteak. "
Back up why they're a skilled band or stfu already. All the MCR haters gave up a long time ago dealing with people who can do no more than say "I like them", so they dropped down to the "yeah, well they suck" level. Giving reasons for them not being a skilled band has traditionally fallen on deaf ears because the majority of their vocal fans are mtv sheep who have no idea about anything except the fact they think they're cool.
And it's old. So so old. Either defend them as a skilled band, or drop it. We know you like them already. Repeating that over and over again is just going to get you in trouble. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Fine. I'll defend them as a skilled band. I'll start by asking a question: Do you play guitar? _________________ Smoking cigarettes can reveil hidden laser traps. This message brought to you by Marlboro.

Yes I do. But that has nothing to do with anything. That's like looking at a piece of artwork that is beautifully rendered but the anatomy is wrong. Anyone could say "that arm is too long and the eyes are crooked", asking if they could paint it any better does not change the fact it's wrong. It's just a lame excuse to dismiss an opinion. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Ok, im not done my argument yet. Let me ask another question and try to answer yes or no. Have you ever heard the song on 3 Cheers for Sweet Revenge: You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison? (actually thats the one song I think you'd like. Its all about prison rape, humourisly of course) _________________ Smoking cigarettes can reveil hidden laser traps. The song could be about 1989 Axl Rose dancing nekkid just for me to Rocket Queen and it wouldn't make a difference.
But for the sake of humoring you, yes I have.
And I do know what they do to guys like them in prison. Now if only they'd get busted for something.
If you're going to use that song as defense for something, let me save you the trouble. The vocals are mediocre and strained. The louder parts lack strength and are musically boring. His voice is loud but not strong. Since you went down the guitar path, it's a pretty generic modern song in that regard. It's one step above their peers who play three power chords over and over, but it's still dull. Anyone who's been playing a couple years could play and write the same. That's fine, not every song needs a two minute long blinding solo, but it doesn't give the band any points either. There's a time and place for simple guitar, but there's nothing interesting or purposeful to theirs. Nirvana has sh*tty guitar work too, but there was a purpose. It followed a decade of guitar virtuosos where songs were empty in content but full of bells and whistles with singers who could shatter glass and guitarists who could melt your brain with their skill. Nirvana did a 360 and stripped all that away and made it all about content.
The problem comes from the fact that trend hasn't died. The "wow, a song doesn't have to be skilled" revelation is alive and strong in the youth who disregard musical skill. It used to be that kids looked up to the likes of Eddie Van Halen and would practice for endless hours in their rooms trying to play Eruption. Now they practice for a month, learn power chords, and form a stupid garage band to play Good Charlotte covers.
But I digress. My point of that is MCR is the same. The guitars are nothing special, but the simplicity of them does nothing for the group. It's not highlighting any good content. The content is average, at best, and trendy shit at worst.
The writing...sounds like every other song of the time. Take one part brooding verse, one part fast background beat, and one part screaming jumbled chorus and you could write the same exact song.
The lyrics themselves....meh. It lacks direction, for one thing. It's got some funny elements, but the majority of it isn't. And the music isn't. So you end up with this song that's going off in four different directions lyrically (if you can even distinguish half the lyrics from the mess of sound and Gerard's screaming). The song sounds more like a serious "woe is me, I've been bumraped by Bubba over there", the humor gets lost. The idea has potential, execution is poor.
And there lies MCR. Whether you like them or not doesn't matter. I like a whole lot of bands that suck ass. But I have the ability to separate what I like and what is good, I can happily spell out for you the shortcomings of them all. MCR are average. Mediocre. They have the basic skills but are nothing special.
Oh, and you're wrong, I hate that song. I downloaded it to make sure I was thinking of the right thing, and I now have a headache. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

My brother does.
It took him 5 minutes to learn to play that Helena song.
He has been slowly learning to play the solo from crazy train for a week and a half.

Hear fricking hear. I'm so sick of absorbing my friend's fangirly garblings about MCR. (though he's a guy) I'm waiting for this generation to stop vomiting trendy sh*t and impress me.
EDIT: (that was in reply to fallen's post) |

Well you know what? I've givin up. I'll go on listening to them but their are definatly some things that i've learned from all of this.
1) On a forum, their is no point arguing with an admin. You will always lose. As with most people on forums, they don't like to lose debates and will make extra long posts to obliterate you.
2) Don't post your personal opinion on something that people apparently take so seriously...
Oh well. I tried. The fact is, I was fighting an uphill battle. Case closed. _________________ Smoking cigarettes can reveil hidden laser traps. This message brought to you by Marlboro.

No, it's actually just don't start an argument about music with me unless you want to put some effort into it.
Because I will put effort and evidence into it. I don't care what the position is, long as someone can make good points.
There have been a number of good discussions in this forum that, while I may not agree with the person, the threads were good because there were two people with valid sides debating.
In the case of MCR and most other trendy groups, it's just fangirls/boys crying about their favorite groups being insulted.
Pity. Someday a fan of these groups will come along and actually have some good points. I'm still waiting, though. Not a SINGLE one has been able to argue anything I say. They all just run away with their tail between their legs.
Guess that says something in itself. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

thats right, u lose! And you'll learn soon enough about arguing with fallen i still haven't tho, we argue all the time, like a sport. And ya, she always wins... but i let her, you know, women like to be on top... whatever, i still gets mine.
shouldn't try to fight fire with fire either, she admits that her bands suck too. I like MCR, they are different from the crap bands today that just echoe eachother. Turn the radio on and it's like one long song, they all sound alike. or i just go back old school, sublime, offspring, RHCP, the fun stuff you rock too. Not this emo s**t "Oh i'm crazy in my head", "it's all your fault that i suck", etc. _________________ "edit : i luv james" - Layzcarter |
she admits that her bands suck too.
And that's the part these kids always miss. I've never said I or bands I like are any better (although when it comes to pure technical skill, not song quality, most of them are, but it's a sign of the times). It's just that there isn't a single other person here who could talk about them, so why would I make a thread about how bad Pretty Boy Floyd or Bang Tango or Enuff Z'Nuff are? Poison's been done to death, even on this forum, so unless someone brings it up I'm not overly inclined to talk about their lack of talent.
It's just....argh ohawehioohbgb;agw;ouirwbsfn/al.
It kills me how many people think the fact they enjoy a band makes them the most talented things on the planet. :(
And ya, she always wins... but i let her
Uh huh.
I'll just wear someone down until they give up or I get bored. It's quite effective. Agree to disagree is not in my vocabulary. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Actually this may seem weird but I didn't even know fallen was a girl. I made the same mistake with Fayore in the middle of an argument too. ^_^ I have bad cognitive skills. _________________ Smoking cigarettes can reveil hidden laser traps. This message brought to you by Marlboro.

My Chemical Romance is good, depending on what people like.Though,I must admit,my favorite song of theirs is "My Lady of Sorrows" from the debut album, I Brought You My Bullets,You Brought Me Your Love. But,it all depends on what people prefer listening to.I don't listen to MCR all the time. |
