You know it's not real. It's only a game. But still, something about that character/place/whatever causes you to tremble, whimper and cling to your teddy bear until it's gone. o_o Discuss. What video games, or characters or whatever, scare you?
I'll humiliate myself first.
Okay, when I was really little (like three) I used to be TERRIFIED of the castles in Super Mario Bros. on the NES. Seriously. Mom would be playing, and leave the room for a second, and I'd be frozen there on the couch too scared to move from that music. The MUSIC. ;_;
To this day, it still haunts me. D: As does the little running-out-of-time tune that showed up in almost all the Mario games.
Oh, and then there's the Great Faerie from the N64 Zelda games. ...o_o;
XD So there's my (pathetically stupid) story. How about you guys?

When I play games, nothing truly scares me (i.e. to the extent of a "paralyzing fear"), but there are certain moments when my hair stands right on end. Usually it's a high shock value, followed quickly by an "I made it this far, I can do this..." sense of courage.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Ganon's appearance as the final boss. You know it had to happen sooner or later, but dark sky, lightning, flaming ruins of his castle, giant silhouetted monster labelled only as "GANON"....

Final Fantasy 5: Galuf vx. X-Death. X-Death started the fight by launching Meteo, and Galuf's HP drops straight to zero after two hits. BUT HE DOESN'T DIE! You know something's going to be seriously wrong when a character doesn't die at zero HP....

FF5: "I... AM... NEO X-DEATH!" And then he proceeds to totally school my four-member party, game over within just a few turns.

Kingdom Hearts: Sora's first (true) boss battle, right as the Destiny Islands are breaking up. Darkside hovering threateningly overhead, debris being sucked into a giant vortex above, only a small fragment of terrain to serve as your arena... that sort of "nowhere to run, nowhere to hide... gotta FIGHT!" type of dread.

Kingdom Hearts: When Maleficent turns into her dragon form. You knew it had to happen, but it still surprises ya when it actually does.

Kingdom Hearts: The whole cut-scene where Sephiroth appears in the Coliseum Platinum Match. One moment I'm thinking, "who the heck is this?", then I think, "no, this is Sephiroth?" As Sephiroth gets into his battle stance, I sorta think "I'm screwed!", then the battle begins ("Platinum Match - Sephiroth"), and Sora's KO'ed in three hits.

There are other moments that have struck me rather strongly, but this is more on an emotional level than one of shock or horror:

FF6: Celes's trying to commit suicide after the End of the World. As a first time play, it really did feel like the world had ended.
FF6: The whole Lock and Rachel thing (e.g., take Lock with you to Kohlingen the first time)
Kingdom Hearts: Sora's stabbing himself with the Dark Keyblade in order to save Kairi.

I could go into specific moments like Strata did but I don't have the memory for that at the moment so I'll simplify it.

Feet.

Now....now you may look at my post and go wtfmate^^ but seriously. xD When characters' feet look retarded, it scares the hell out of me. xD;;; Ok, i.e.? Granstream Saga. Old old old PS game. Awesome gameplay. Nice story. Not very good dialogue. Mediocre in-game character design or whatever, blah blah. Hideously tiny feet. I mean damn.

OH YEAH. And nobody had faces for the most part. >_<

Back when I was 8 I was playing Super Mario 64. The cave level with the demonic looking giant sea monster in the middle of an underground lake. I was always afraid that as soon as I went into the water it would start charging me to kill me.

There was also back in Banjo-Kazooie when I accidently fell into the middle of an ocean and had to outrun a shark. Eeeek! Uneasy

The first time I faced Seymour in FFX. I knew from the VERY first time I saw him....I literally said OUT LOUD when I saw him the first time, "I'm gonna have to kill this asshole..."
I hated Seymour.....

more exhilarating moments in gamer history LATER! :wub:

Any of the Silent Hill games. >/ mostly Silent Hill 3. It's f**king creepy because things jump out at you. 4 isn't that bad, but still... creepy s**t. Shadow man is the biggest and creepiest game I've ever played.. that and Doom 3.

I don't get scared, more like intense and creeped out.

-I get scared in Shadow of the Colossus, right before a colossus battle. Some of them truly scare me.

-in resident evil 4 when your fighting off the villagers in the cabin with Luis, and they won't stop coming. Really freaky.

-The dogs coming through the windows in Resident Evil.

-The screaming bodybag in Manhunt.

-First meeting a Dark Aeon (Shiva was the first I saw) in Final Fantasy X. I wondered what would happen if I went back to Macalania Temple. I was dead before my first turn. Sad

- First playing Alien Trilogy.

There's probably more, but my dignity won't take any more. Smile

Bah you, bad graphics are scary, like the person above me said. Ah whatever then....

Okay, here's a real moment, then. The doll house in Shadow Hearts. There's a little girl's room in the basement. I can never stay in there for too long. Scared the absolute hell out of me sometimes. The walls are all scratched and scribbled up with blood. There's a rocking horse with a doll on it that stares at you. xD;;

>\ Orb Chaos pissed me off, though. Oh yeah, and it had a face on the back of its big baby head. oo;

Theres a few but can only say ones thats come to mind around about now.
Alone In The Dark. Some parts made me jump out of my skin.
The dark aeons from FFX. They were really annoying aswell. When I saw the strengh of the dark magnus sisters, it really made me never want to see them again.

The strategy game X-COM: anymission that took place at night just gave me the creeps because you couldn't see any of the enemies but you could still here them "go bump in the night". Also, most of the time when civilians got killed all you heard were screams in the darkness.
