The Asshole Tactics

Halo 2 is, by far, my favorite multi-player game. The only way I would like it more is if I didn't have to play it with other people.

As all of you know, the anonymity provided by the internet allows the inner asshole to come out in some people. A person who would normally be rather kind or at least decent to his fellow human beings can turn into an utter f**k-wad once his identity is hidden by a clever user name and complete lack of any real reprisal. As you may already know, Halo 2 Live is a variable breeding ground for just such a douche bag. These people use underhanded or out-right unfair tactics in the game world, taking advantage of flaws in the map designs and other glitches to carry out their miserable deeds. I call these, affectionately, Asshole Tactics. There is nothing you can really do about it, and technically it isn't cheating, but I'll be damned if it doesn't rub me the wrong way. Here are a few descriptions of what I can't stand:

Map: Burial Mounds
Asshole Tactic: The Spawn-Camp Cluster-f**k

This is an Asshole Tactic that can be carried out by the defending team in any objective-based game and is one I cannot stand. Basically, the defending team grabs their battle rifles and snipers and quickly makes their way into the valley where the attackers spawn. They then simply stand on the ledge above and pick of the opposing team as they appear on the map. The valley offers virtually no cover and a perfect line of site, making it difficult to avoid instant death once the defending team has settled into their camping position. What makes this such an asshole tactic is the ease in which it can be done. The design of the map makes it far too simple to just run right over to the valley and begin camping, and if you do die, you respawn safely back at your base. Not only will I not participate in spawn camping, I actively hinder the efforts of my teammates who do.

Map: Coagulation
Asshole Tactic: The Ledge Camper

This is another spawn camping tactic that is more annoying than hindering as you can hide in your base to avoid the sniper, but anyone with the misfortune of respawning outside in the open is basically a sitting duck. One lone sniper makes his way up onto one of the ledges overlooking the enemy base. He then simply hides either behind the rock (at red base) or in the cave (at blue base) and snipes the unwary players who spawn out in the open without any form of protection. Some people argue that this takes skill, but only a marginal amount. Have you successfully mastered the controls of the game? Can you stand in one place and repeatedly shoot at a target that is moving far too slowly to avoid your fire? Congratulations! You have just mastered this Asshole Tactic.

Map: Headlong
Asshole Tactic: The Spoiled Child and the Tank

I highly suggest that the designers of Halo choose a new place to start the tank in the beginning of the round on this map, as its current location leaves much to be desired. Basically, a person on the defending team simply grabs the fixed turret located on the ground at the side of the attackers base, right in front of the wide open space that separates the two teams. He then has a perfect shot at the tank, its starting position being right in the line of site of the turret. You can easily destroy the tank before anyone can reach it, thus why I call this an if I cant have it, no one can attitude tactic.

Map: Headlong
Asshole Tactic: Sniper Snatch

You may have noticed, but I have issues with headlong. It is a sniper dominated map, making a marksman essential to your victory. However, the design of the map makes it almost too easy for the defending team to obtain both sniper rifles within a time span of about 7 seconds. A defending player simply jumps into a ghost and rockets up the dirt ramp on the left side of the map and into the tunnel, which leads directly to the bridge where the attacking teams sniper rifle is located. Since only about two people can stand on that bridge shoulder to shoulder, it doesnt allow a lot of room for maneuvering, creating a shooting gallery for the guy in the ghost. What makes this an asshole tactic is that the man in the ghost can always reach the sniper rifle before any of the attackers can get there, and the attackers have no hope of getting the defenders rifle, unless due to negligence on the defenders part. Some people argue that it takes skill to navigate the tunnels quickly enough to reach the rifle, but I say anyone who cant do it has no place using the sniper rifle to begin with.

not sure if this is counted as an ass hole thing but i have to say it

i once had a (throw's the big explody blue balls) vechilcle in front of me and a sniper aiming at me. nothing but open space and i'm stuck.

so what do i do.


i play whack a mole of course

i jump up in various places and say "BOING" and he shoots and miss's. if i get hit i don't die unless its a head shot.

much fun and many laugh's a the agravation of it all.

More Asshole Tactics!

Map: Any
Asshole Tactic: Combo de la n00b

There are many weapon combos in Halo that a player can take advantage of to win the day. However, one combination that should be done away with immediately is the Plasma Pistol/Battle rifle combo. Basically, you start by charging up a plasma pistol. A single plasma pistol charge can take out an enemies shield instantly. Coupled with the fact that it tracks its target, meaning you don't even have to properly aim the damn thing, and you have the perfect shield penetrating weapon. Once his shields are down, you then just switch to you're battle rifle aim near his head (or hell, [i]anywhere [/i]if ya got the time) fire, and forget this took no skill. What pisses me off is that it takes the battle rifle, a majestic weapon that truly defines your abilities at this game, and cheapens it into an easy kill, "I could do this in a coma" weapon. Also, the people who use this combo annoy me to no end, as since they rack up a bunch of kills during a game, they think this gives them license to act better then you, despite the fact that if they are armed with anything else, or hell, even happened to miss you with the initial plasma shot, you can wipe your ass with them every time. I feel the same way about people who get 30 kills a game because they camped somewhere safe with a sniper rifle, but are worthless in the middle of a fight holding any other weapon.

Asshole Tactic: n00b Sniping

Described briefly above, basically anyone who sits somewhere safe and out of the way with a sniper rifle and shoots anything that moves into their line of site. Unless they are playing a Slayer match, generally contributes nothing to the team, being that they are too cowardly or lack any other useful skills to actually complete objective-based missions. Will often spend up to 3 or 4 minutes getting into a hard-to-reach place, effectively putting your team down a man as he is not doing anything constructive otherwise. However, once in position, will make your life a living hell as he racks up the undeserved kills while you are busy concentrating on the other players. Crumples like a dead leaf if anyone actually gets near him, but a good n00b Sniper will always place himself in a position that makes it nearly impossible for people to successfully reach him. Thinks he's the s**t, but I can still own you with a battle rifle.

Now I consider myself very open to game strategies, 'glitching' is Ok with me... to an extent. I will not tollerat people super-jumping to get to the best sniper spots and will kill, on site, [i]anyone [/i] trying to do such. Cheating... [i]cheating[/i]... I hate the word, 'walking jumpers', 'invincibles' and 'no ammos' can all die in a hole as far as I'm concerned. I do have some problems with your 'asshole tactics' though I feel what you're saying, I must say that the noob combo, and other such things are not only inevitable but in some cases not all evil. It took people, with [i]genuine [/i]brains to think of that! I don't ike people who use it again and again and [i]again [/i] but, well that's life. Sure they're assholes for camping and not using skills but tactics like that are tolerable in [i]small [/i]doses (key word small). By the way, noob sniping is piss annoying, no one do it when playing [i]me[/i] whether you're on my team or not.
