Is anybody going to see this? It looks kinda ghey. Also, I heard that it's based on the songs of Billy Joel, so that's not a good sign either.

Its a good movie and play. I've seen them both and love them. It targets many issues such as gay exceptence, aids, lesbain axceptence, and the "poor" epidimice.

Have you seen the play?

As a play, it's great.

As a film...no. Here's the problem. On stage, you can obviously take certain liberties with things. They're campy and silly and it doesn't really matter what anyone looks like 'cause you can't see them anyway. It could be the ugliest girl in the world and if all the male characters pay attention to her, the audience will think she's hot.

From every review I've read, they've left the camp but not accounted for the fact it's film and not a play. For people dying of AIDS, they're awfully pretty. On stage that doesn't matter, but come on...look at a real person dying of AIDS and see how sexy they are. Rolling eyes

And the whole thing's just...cheesy and rather lame.

Great play, bad film. It's like if all the characters in Footloose had danced and sang all the songs like they do in the stage adaptation, it would be incredibly ghey. Unless you're literally filming a play, it should be a bit more realistic.

I do want to see it out of morbid curiosity, though. Maybe on video.

I went to see it. The fact that they cut out Christmas Bells made me more sad then anything else. Sad

My brother went to go see it and he could sum it up in four words: AIDS, Drugs, Homosexuality, and the Homeless. He thought the movie was pretty good, but he couldn't get the stupid main theme out of his head so he started singing it. It got really annoying really quickly, something about six hundred twenty five thousand minutes...mumble mumble...hate that stupid song! Grr!
