Wow, it's nice to see Religion caving itself, redefining itself to suit the need of the people.
Just shows you how wavering and popularity-dependant it is. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

Remember all the nazi jibes people were coming out with when he got picked? Saying that he wasn't chosen, but he was the first to hang his towel over the balcony, and stuff like that. _________________ "You know what? Let's leave it to Brian to take something and then generalize the f**k out of it until it encompasses everything his biased goals intend.
Personally, I'm not catholic and don't believe in limbo. Even if I was catholic, still don't believe in limbo. I don't like the idea of an innocent not being allowed into heaven.

I may actually be the only catholic to respond to this issue, but I don't think people should really worry too much about the theologans advising Pope Benedict to eliminate the teaching about limbo from the Catholic catechism. The reason being that Pope Benedict aka Cardinal Ratzinger was a very close friend of Pope John Paul II and I would think that they would deal w/the subject similiarly.
The Article explained that when Pope John Paul was alive he asked the commission or theologians to come up with "a more coherent and enlightened way" of describing the fate of aborted children. Which also translates to the former Pope not being satisfied w/ limbo simply being eliminated. Which in turn also points to Cardinal Ratzinger making a similar decision.
I've been rather happy w/most of the decisions the new pope has made. He has shown so far that he isn't willing to sacrifice the church's moral for society's favor. As for the comment about Cardinal Ratzinger being scary-looking you are quite right. In fact his former job was the "Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith" which meant that it was his job to disciplinarian for the church or tell people what is right and wrong in the church. He was the person that always got people into trouble...what a horrible job...at least he has a better one now. |

None of that traditional stuff is what makes a person "a good Catholic" in my opinion. If you like love your fellow man and live of life that you love full of generosity and an open heart then you are techincally "a good Catholic." But thats just in my humble opinion. I don't do any of that traditional stuff either Hawk. I don't even go to chruch but that doesn't make me a bad Catholic. Just a Catholic who has other things to do on a Sunday and prefers to pray in private anyway.
Anyways, I am pretty confused about this "no limbo" stuff. I'm assuming they mean Purgatory which if thats the case then thats pretty messed up in my opinion. I've grown up most of my life thinking that most of the people I know would end up there and that when people pray for the souls in Purgatory, Jesus lets them into Heaven.
So now the Pope is just telling us to take back this belief? I'm sorry but this is pretty much why I'm starting to think that most religious teachings are inaccurate and why there is really no reason to attend church. These people are as clueless about the fate of people after death as I am.
I'm sorry if I offended anyone but really, who teaches something and then all of a sudden takes it back? _________________ Vaccum cleaners may look fun, but are deadly sex toys. as are certain vegetables like, terri schiavo -Powtaz |

My avatar is scary? Well thank you!
As for being a good catholic...is there really such a thing anymore? I think I've missed a dozen holy days this year and I cuss like the devil himself (no pun intended!) I even fall asleep in church b/c I find it so boring...my mom doesn't know what to do w/me. I keep telling her there is nothing to do, but she insists that I put more effort into getting know god better by spending an hour a day at the tabernacle (that's where the hosts are kept). She thinks the tabernacle has god's prescence in there, but who knows. Mom's just a hard-core catholic and guess there's nothing I can do about it. |
