Starbucks. I'm a barista. I push overpriced caffeine on children and can look down on you if I so feel like it because I am associated with the social elite of society and am far more knowledgeable and trendy than you are. ^_^ _________________

If you work at starbucks or tim hortons for more than a year, you can't identify smell of coffee for the rest of your life. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

I'm a F.E. supervisor at the local supermarket. F.E. specialize in customer service (the head F.E. is customer service manager of the store) along with courtesy. What this means is i get to watch the front end of the store where the cashiers are, making sure they're paying attention, being polite, not taking bad checks or fake bills. Customers aren't stealing, etc.
That ain't the half of it. F.E. deals with all departments of the store and asshole managers. All while dealing with cashiers going through puberty that complain nonstop and bitch and talk while they have customers. Meanwhile i'm the one that gets yelled at by the customer and the manager.
I get just 7.45 an hour for this, 8.75 on sundays and on holidays or overtime. But i'm not full time and i can get up to as much as 50 hrs a week. I don't complain then though cause the checks get nicer It sucks sometimes, but i like my job. Besides, i get to tell the cashiers what to do and if they piss me off, i can make them either stay on register or go block, etc, depending on what they don't want to do. And they have to listen. Bitches. |

I am one of the few last remaining full service gas station attedents :o
I pump gas, wash the windshield, check your oil and all your fluids under the hood of your car, i check the tire pressure in all of your tires(spare only if asked ). then i ask if they want there back window washed.
Then i fix flat tires aswell. I HATE FIX A FLAT . that s**t is a big pain in the ass when it comes to fixing it. you have to wash it out with water and then you have to dry it off then if your lucky the stuff washed out and you can start. if not then you have to take it out with your hands.
But i have a huge air compressor to help me along the way
Then i do oil changes and brakes. I even grind the rotors(thing the break press against to stop the car) they need it every now and then.
We have a lift. not only that but i work on Border Patrol cars. Man do they brake that stuff quickly :o
other then that i'm not much of a mechanic. _________________ I'm a bit silly on the goofy side on nonsense. ^_^ |

I work at Amtraks west coast corporate office in Oakland. My office overlooks Jack London Square and the Oakland Estuary. Satellite tv overlooks my desk. I'm watching Monday Night Football right now, and the Seahawks are currently in the lead. If only it was this quiet in the office all the time. |

I used to work in a candle company and dropped over 220 degree celicius wax all over my leg on teh first day I loved having thick jeans
got fired 'cause my boss said me and my friends didn't work hard enough "Even though we were the ones maybe always ending with the harder job. Break 3 inches large wax get's pretty painful after a while.. that kinda was the last thing we did before he fired us saying we weren't working well enough and were a source of stress... <_< bastard.
All the trouble started when his mom came a day to give a hand but was only a bunch of trouble and me and my friend took all the blame.
at least now I can sleep on saturday mornings _________________ A life with love will have some thorns but a life without love will have no rose |

I can honestly say I work for my money...I actually have the pleasure/pain in the ass of being a proud employee of Burger King!
When you turn 16, the only thing you have to look forward to driving, but coming w/that privilige is getting a job to pay the car...unless you're one of the lucky bastards whose parents buy their cars for them...<_<
I remember putting in applications everywhere, but no one would hire me b/c I didn't have any work experience. My old brother, Kurt got me hired at BK b/c he was a manager there. To think I was actually about getting a job...boy, was I nieve.
Fast forward to 3 yrs later...I think I know better now or maybe not b/c I still work at BK.
Quite possibly the worst thing about BK is working in the back making food. People really do take the saying "Have it your way" to the extreme! I can't put into words how much it pisses me off when a stupid customer can't figure out what they want or change their mind after I've already started making the sandwich. It's a very good thing I don't work in front b/c everyone I work w/knows I'd give those customers a piece of my mind!
Besides, that there's that awful stench of grease that sticks you wherever you go until you take a bath. Me and grease really have some issues w/each other...especially when filtering. Every night, one of the main jobs of a back closer is to filter the grease in the fryers. We use a filtering machine (aka dumb s**t, bitch, the list goes on...) to recycle the grease into the next fryer and then, we take the old grease in the last fryer and suck it out into a bigger machine stores it until it is taken by truck to be recycled. That's not the problem though, the problem is that my filtering machine is a piece of s**t! Honestly, it really need to be put out of it's misery. It's missing a handle, a wheel, and to top it off the machine is very tempermental about when it wants to work. The machine may even stop working while I'm using it which is why my right arm is permantly scared with horrid looking burn marks.
After all that ranting though, there is a brighter side to working at BK. I work w/ the best crew on the planet! I think the friends I've made there may know more about me than my family...we're close knit group and when I leave there they'll be the only thing I'll miss.
I almost forgot! I must spread the good news that next week I'll be the proud owner of a new filtering machine! I've waited 3 yrs for this! Oh happy day! When I found out I danced and screamed like crazy! My boss thought I was possessed...go figure...damn demons!
So the moral of this story is don't be stupid enough to work at a fast food place. Really! |

In response to Fayore's question (long overdue and I apologize) I work at Amtrak West Operations Center. We monitor some 3,800 miles of track throughout California, Oregon and Washington. We serve as a sort of "air traffic control" for information. If a train derails or if someone commits suicide by train, we are the second to know about it. (the first being those who are on board) and we relate that information to the proper management peoples on the west coast, the appropriate railroads, and the Consolidated National Operations Center in Willmington Delaware. My office does NOT do ANY dispatching of any kind, we don't cause the 16 hour delays - we just report them to management.
Before this I installed computers for COMP USA, but I tired of the big box retail thanklless stress job quickly.
I was assistant manager of Radio Shack in Petaluma, but found Tandy's buisness practices too seedy for my principals.
I worked at a television station for a while but had to quit because they weren't going to hire me full time since I hadn't finished school.
I had worked for a veterinary hospital for MANY years but quit due to a romantic falling out, and the buisness was being driven into the ground by management.
Before that I had the not-so-glamorous job of driving pizzas around to people who (allegedly) ordered them. I had a real stint as a chauffeur too but had to quit because the insurance company didn't like my lack of driving experience at the time.
Before that I worked at a mushroom farm. The LEGAL kind, ya shroom-heads! |
